just a small addition:
Concept of Boats and Stream:
1. Speed of boat in still water - when boat moves with a certain speed in water which is not moving. Say 'Sb'.
2. Speed of the boat WITH the stream - when the boat and the stream are in the SAME direction. Say 'u'.
3. Speed of the boat AGAINST the stream - when boat and stream are in OPPOSITE direction. Say 'v'.
UPSTREAM (against the stream - v) :
Here, the stream OPPOSES the speed of the boat. So Sb is reduced.
v = Speed of boat (Sb) - speed of stream.
DOWNSTREAM (with the stream - u) :
Here, speed of the stream AIDS the speed of the boat. So Sb is increased.
u = Speed of boat (Sb) + speed of stream.
u, v are relative speeds!!
