For simplicity let's take 2 boxes:
Box 1 : From this box, take 1 matchstick
Box 2 : From this box, take 2 matchsticks
Take these three and weight ONCE:
Ideal weight should have been : 1*1 + 2*1 = 3
But suppose Box 2 is faulty, and each matchstick weights 2 gm
So, the weight that you will get = 1*1 + 2*2 = 5 ...
If Box 1 is faulty, then weight = 1*2 + 2*1 = 4
So, deviation from that 3(ideal weight), is the box number..

Wahi hai jo baaki ne kaha. Mark the matchboxes. Matchbox 1,2,3,....10 .take 1 match from 1st box 2 matches from second box and so on. Weigh them ALL together. Now if all of them weighed the normal 1g then the weight would come out to be 10*11/2= 55 but matches from 1 box weighs 2gm, so if it's say matchbox number 3 , the weight showed will be 55+3, if it's matchbox 7 the weight showed will be 55+7 and so on.
