I think there is a formula for this, although you can derive it by iteration:
Sigma(n) + 1 , where n is the number of lines..
Circle is just something to represent the plane, you can consider a circle with infinite radius..
So, for 3 lines , it should be (3*4)/2 + 1 = 7 ?
