Nothing wrong with the attempts dude.. The accuracy needs to go up to arnd 85% and you'll be okay..

Friends Iam giving CAT for the 1st time My preparation is not so good... Iam able to do only 15-16 in Quant and same in the 2nd section.. what %ile can i expect if i do around 28-30 questions in actual CAT exam with say 85% accuracy ??

Brute force is fine if you are okay with complex nos. Let ax+b = y. You get y = 1+/- rt(2)*iota.
Take one of these values of y and put in the required expression ie y^3-y.

x + 3/x = 2
x^2 - 2x + 3 = 0
x = (x^2 + 3)/2 ------ eqn 1

x*x - 2x + 3 = 0
x*(x^2 + 3)/2 - 2x + 3 = 0 (Put value of x from eqn 1 in one of the x in x^2 )

x^3 + 3x - 4x + 6 = 0
x^3 - x = -6

Waise if u know complex numbers then just put ax + b = 1 + i_/2
