There were two escalators (moving stairways) in a mall, with the same number of steps, the first one moving up and the second moving down at the same speed. Ram and Sameer walk up the first escalator at their respective uniform speeds. Ram took 2 steps in the time that Sameer took one. Ram and Sameer reached the top of the escalator after taking 30 steps and 20 steps respectively. Ram then started to walk down the second escalator. At the same time, Tarun started to walk up the second escalator at twice Ram's speed. How many steps would Tarun take before meeting Sameer?
a) 20
b) 24
c) 40
d) 48Please iska solution explain kr do detail me... OA is 40..

Let the sped of ram be 2 steps/sec and sameer be 1 step/sec
When the escalator is moving up...
L=30+30/2*u=20+20*u(u=speed of escalator)
U=2 stpes/sec

now in the 2nd case when Ram and sameer are movind down and up the escalator respectively
Time to cross each other=L/(2+1)=60/3=20(since the escalator is throwing +2 steps to ram and -2 steps to tarun,2 being the speed of the escalator,they nullify each other.hence,L can be taken as 60)
thus tarun takes 20*2=40 steps....

am weak in quant...based on trends of the past two days of cat...can anyone please suggest which is best to solve...wrt aimcats/CL mocks/past cat papers (pertaining only to quant)...thank you

Hey! Just came acroos this sum, 1st 3 terms , sum aint of the form (n-1)/n
From the first 창€˜n창€™ consecutive natural numbers written on a blackboard, one of the numbers is removed. If the average of the remaining numbers is 32(2/9), then find the number removed.
A> 50
B> 64
C> 46
D> None of these

{n(n+1)/2-x}/(n-1)=290/9
n(n+1)/2=290*(n-1)/9+x

n-1 is a factor of 9
n=64....(we first try with n=10 and a extreme case say n=46...with n=46...
290*(n-1)/9 is jus greater than n(n+1)/2.....for the next value n=64 ,the eqn satisfies)
thus x=50
@staaalinnn
@YouMadFellow can u please explain to me that? ?? I didn't get it
@Foster87 thnx a lot bro ..

sir ek doubt h..........!!
find the sum of the digits of 25!
but now how to ensure that /find k sum single digit hi aaayga????

agar digit sum bola toh no doubt it would be 9...agar sum of digits bola toh usme sabka digit sum nikal ke check karna ...9 jiska hain woh laga dena...agar do options mein aisa huan toh fir CAT waalo ko pranaam karke aa jana...
Digit sum is always a single digit and sum of digits is the sum of all the nos in the product..

Sum of digits here means tab tak sum karte jao jab tak 1 digit wala nhi aata....iss case mei 9 hoga kyunki ye 9 ka multiple hai...:P

yes i know it will be 9 or multiple of 9 but what if options are 27 ,36,9 ....!
bas yahi doubt h........!! fir kya karege........!!
@Omkarp - Unproc 5 was very easy. :/

ha i know but questions can be asked in two ways
either the sum of digit only (doesnt matter it will reduced to a single digit or not)
and second reduced it to a single digit.
n i am talking about 1st case
i know it will be a multiple of 9 but how to find the number that's what i am asking.....!!

what is inscribed angle theorem that is used in circles...?? Anyone
