PO Cleared...............with 96 attempt

I don't want to brag about my selection bt I want to motivate those who haven't made it. I cleared with attempts as low as 83. So never lose hope guys. IBPS is on its way so keep working hard always. All the best!!

Hello everyone. Let me start with congratulating all the aspirants who have cleared the mains exam. It is no mean achievement to clear this prestigious exam, considering the level of competition, and you all should be very proud of yourself. However, the job is only half done as the all-important GDPI stage is remaining, which is a make-or-break deal for many. For those who couldn't clear it, don't lose heart because it is not the end of road. There is always a next time and with better preparation, you will certainly clear the exam.

As a reminder, I cleared SBI PO last year and shared my strategy for this year's exam some months back on PG. Please find below the link of the post. I hope the post was helpful to all during exam preparation. http://www.pagalguy.com/discussions/sbi-po-2016-preparation-discussion-37443483/43196025

As promised, I am back with GDPI tips and tricks to help you ace the stage. I scored 19/20 in GD and 29/30 in PI. It may seem almost impossible to score such high marks in both GD and PI, but trust me, anything is possible if you work in the right direction. I would also like to emphasise that neither I possess any extra-curricular achievements nor I have an excellent academic record; I am an average student with an average profile, still I was able to score such high marks in GDPI because of some smart work and playing to my strength.

Let me start with the GD part first.

 · The GD topics given by SBI are general in nature and anyone who is even a moderate newspaper reader can speak on those topics. There are typically 10-12 people in a GD and all sit in an inverted 'U' fashion. There may be 5 panellists, one of whom will be the chairperson who decides your selection.

  · The good thing about SBI is they give you 2 minutes to speak on the topic and no one can interfere in that duration. Remember to make full use of those 2 minutes to make a good first impression and give a structure to what you will say in the remaining time. Do not look at the panellists while speaking. The discussion is between the aspirants and the panellists are only present for evaluation. Address the group as a whole instead of a particular person.

 · Once the floor is open for all, try to make at least 4-5 significant and valid entries. In each entry, make a different point. That way, the panel will notice you. Do not cut others while they make their point; let them complete first and once they are finished, jump in. Usually if you support someone after he/she has made the point, the person allows you to speak. So start with agreeing with them and then make your point. Remember, the panel will give you marks for your professionalism, not how you cut others and do not allow others to speak. The GD should look like a professional board meeting where everyone speaks and there is a constructive discussion leading to a conclusion.

 · You will get to display your leadership skills by allowing others to speak, by showing the correct way to others if they start discussing irrelevant points etc. The panel also checks your leadership skills and mannerism apart from your knowledge.

 · In addition, the same panel will interview you after the GD and a good impression will give you advantage during PI. They may also ask you questions in PI on what you said during GD(they note down your points during GD), so remember what you said in GD and do not contradict that in PI. A good impression in GD will be carried forward and will help you during PI.

Now coming to PI.

· You will be given a form beforehand. TREAT THAT FORM AS YOUR BIBLE. When you go in the interview room, all the panellists will have that form in their hand. They expect you to know everything what you have written and will ask you questions only related to that. Therefore, be very careful while writing the details. Write only those details that you can successfully defend. Do not complicate things; keep them simple. If you do not have any extra-curricular achievements, do not write anything in that field. It's ok to leave a field blank. The panellists will not ask you anything related to that. Do not make up any hobbies. Write about what you really do and can handle cross-questioning on that.

 · There is a list of general HR questions (your short term and long term goals, why do you want to join SBI, why should we select you etc.) released by #BA every year. Formulate your response to these questions very carefully. These questions usually decide your selection. Through these, the panel checks your interest towards the job, your professionalism, your ability to work in corporate world and your clear-headedness towards goals. You can afford a slip up in a GK question or a question on your hobby, but not in these questions. Once you give an improper reply to one of these, it is almost impossible to climb your way up. That is why it is imperative you formulate proper response to these questions. Sit alone and start writing answers. Show them to others and keep filtering them until you are convinced. There are no right or wrong answers, just proper answers.

 · Your job is to convince the panel that you are interested to work in SBI. Therefore, link your responses with your interest in SBI. This will impress the panel and will help you in selection.

· Go through SBI's website before interview and keep a track of new developments in SBI and in banking sector. This will show your interest in that field and impress the panel.

· Keep a track of at least 15 days headlines. The panel may ask you any recent happenings during PI.

· Many good Samaritans on PG share their interview experience. Go through last 3 years SBI PO threads and search for the experiences. My whole preparation was based on them. You get to know what kinds of questions are asked, how to properly give answers and what mistakes to avoid. The task is arduous but totally worth it.

 · Lastly, do not panic. The panellists are generally friendly. It's ok if you cannot answer a question. They still give you opportunity to make amends. Grab that opportunity and march forward.

The GDPI process is extremely important from selection's perspective. Do not take it lightly. No interview is cleared based on spontaneous answers. Frame your response carefully. The panellists should realise that you have done your homework properly and should be able to see the amount of hard work you have put in your response.

I believe I have shared everything I know and I hope all these tips are helpful to you. Prepare well and ace the process. ALL THE BEST!
