I read a post regarding the uncertainty about treating "Data" as singular or plural. I somehow can't find the post now. But I hope this helps. 😃
Both usages are standard (Treating it as singular or plural). Its true that data is plural and datum is singular. So, unless "datum" is mentioned somewhere in the question, using "data is" would be more appropriate. See, let me quote an example.
* Much of this data is useless because of its lack of relevance. (Data, when considered "singular" sounds legit.)
* Much of this data are useless because of its lack of relevance. (if we data as "plural" here it becomes grammatically wrong)
*Many of these data are useless because of their lack of relevance. ( When we use the grammatically correct sentence considering "data" as plural it sounds all wrong )
2 men and 3 boys can do a piece of work in 10 days. 3 men and 2 boys can do a piece of work in 8 days then in how many days 2 men and 1 boy can finish a work ?

According to the amendment in the payment of bonus act the monthly calculation ceiling of bonus has been increased from 3500 to 7000....eligibility limit for payment of bonus has been increased from 10000 to 21000 per month....what is meant by this?
