Raw Score
Average Score
Normalized ScoreRaw Score: This is the initial score by our attempt in the exam. Let candidate X attempted 80 questions out of 100. 56 are right, rest 24 are wrong. Then we know that his/her score will be (56*1)-(24*1/3)=56-8=48
Average Score: Let X attended the exam. There were 100 people. And also there were 4 Sets/Shifts of questions, such that A, B, C, D. But obviously all Sets were not same. So their difficulties are also not same. Let the average Raw Score secured by all candidates of Set-A was 60. Assuming other sets such as B-55, C-70, C-65. So the average Raw Score for that day is (60+55+70+65)/4=62.5 It is our Average Score.
Normalised Score: Now let some data. Let, X has scored (raw score) 70. But he/she is on B Set/Shift. Average score of all Shifts is 62.5 & top 0.1% students from all Shifts have scored 90. But the average score of Shift B is 55 & top 0.1% students of B shift have scored 75 (since B was the toughest shift).
What is X's Normalized Score: Now it is the formula- {(90-62.5)/(75-55)}*(70-55)+62.5= 83.125 ~ 83.13 (approx)
