NORMALIZATION AND NORMALIZATION EVERYWHERE.... Those who are having doubts about normalization.. Please read once and for the sake of your future stop flooding the thread asking useless questions... This thread consists of job seekers only... Please try to understand.... No one is expert here... How Normalization is done in RRB NTPC Exam? Before proceeding further, we fist need to know what are Raw score and Average score? Scroll down for info. Raw Score: The initial stage of the calculation of the scores is by calculating the raw score. Raw score means the marks obtained in each section which is calculated by counting the correctly answered marks after applying penalty for wrong answers (1/3 marks). For example if a candidate attended 90 questions, out of which 15 are wrong, then the raw score will be 90-15-15x (1/3) = 75-15=70. Average Score: Suppose 100 peoples appeared for a particular exam. There were 4 sets of question papers with different level of difficulties: Set A, Set B, Set C and Set D. Suppose all candidates appeared in Set A question paper secured average marks of 60%, similarly in Set B 55%, Set C 70%, and in set D 65%. Now this variation in average marks is because of the difference in difficulty level of different Sets. Set B was the most difficult one that's why Average Marks in set B is only 55% whereas the set C was the easier one that's why candidates secured average of 70%. To make it to the same difficulty level they use a method called normalizing the marks. Here the Average marks will be (60+55+70+65)/4 = 62.5. It means the 60% in set A, 55% in set B, 70% in set C and 65% in set D are equivalent to 62.5% in normalized marks. Formula to Calculate RRB NTPC Normalization Marks: Lets say average marks of all candidates in all shifts are 25, average marks of top 0.1% candidates are 75, assuming you appeared in the easier shift, average marks of top 0.1% in your shift are 80, average marks of all candidates in your shift are 30 (for obvious reasons) and if you have secured 60 marks, then: [{(75 - 25)/(80 - 30)}*(60 - 30)] + 25 = 55; You can clearly see that if you have appeared for the easier shift your normalized marks will be lesser than your actual marks. Similarly, If you have appeared for the difficult shift then your normalized marks will be greater than the actual. Score: Based on our assumption: 90 + (60){(55 - 25)/(75 - 25)} = 90; Here, 60 and 90 are general constants. 55 are your normalized marks. Cut-off is taken as 25(Gen). Average marks of top 0.1% candidates are taken as 75. So based on our assumptions we calculated the normalized RRB NTPC score for a guy who scored 60 marks in a comparatively easier shift. But you cannot always be sure of the outcome, RRB NTPC is an uncertain kind of a test, you cannot simply suppose a shift to be easier than the other, you cannot assume or predict the average marks. It all depends upon the statistics. Your rank is also subject to change with respect to the number of people appearing and qualifying the test. Source: w3i. in ... No offense.. Peace☮️
