I recall this day the 11th of September in the year 2001. Or maybe a day or two later. My father was glued to the News broadcast. A ticker was running: ...Terrorism... My father asked me what it meant. I guessed something silly. Got slapped. To him not knowing the meaning and guessing something silly was in a way belittling the situation. I couldn't understand why not knowing the meaning of an alien word was deserving of a slap. I was too young to comprehend how mass anger can percolate into private lives. And this was in a Rural Bihar setting. Imagine the people who were directly affected by it.
