i got stuck...plz help me out....
Q-two pipes A and B can fill up half full tank in 1.2 hours.the tank was initially empty.pipe B was kept open for half the time required by pipe A to fill the tank by itself.then pipe A was kept open for as much required by pipe B to fill up 1/3 of the tank itself.it was found that the tank was 5/6 full.the least time in which any of the pipe can fill the tank fully is
a) 4.8 h
b) 4 hours
c) 3.6 hours
d) 6 hours
According to the first condition, the time to fill the tank when both the pipes are on would be 2.4 hours.
=> 1/A + 1/B = 1/2.4
The second condition gives that
(A/2) * (1/B) + (B/3) * (1/A) = 5/6
=> A/2B + B/3A = 5/6
Put A/B = X
=> X/2 + 1/3X = 5/6
=> 3X^2 - 5X +2 = 0
Solve the quadratic to get the value of X as 2/3 or 1
That brings up 2 cases A=2y and B=3y or A=B
When A = B, each pipe would individually fill the tank in 4.8 hrs.
By the other case, 1/2y + 1/3y = 1/2.4
Solve to get y= 2
=> A = 4 hrs and B = 6 hrs.
So, the least time possible is 4 hrs.
Hope that helps 😃
Aditya answer to your 2nd question:
Q2.) If p and q are the roots of the equation x^2 - px + q = 0 then
a) p=1,q=-2
b)p=0,q=1
c)p=-2,q=0
d)p=-2,q=1
e)p=1,q=1
will be option number 1 1.e. p=1 and q=-2

A and B are stationed at two points Q and R respectively on a flowing river.The direction of flow of river is from Q to R.When A and B swim towards each other,they meet at P,which is at a distance of 20m from the point R.When A swims towards B and B swims away from A,they meet at S,which is at a distance of 40m from the point R.B's speed in still water is five times the speed at which the river flows.
1)Find the ratio of speeds of A and B in still water
a)6:1
b)7:1
c)8:1
d)5:1
2)On a particular day A and B start swimming towards each other simultaneosly from the points where they are stationed.When A was 'y'm away from the point P,B turns back and they meet at the point R.Find the value of y.
a)52m
b)56m
c)58m
d)60m

Can someone ans this- a number is mistakenly divided by 5 instead of being multiplied by 5. Find the percentage change in the result due to this mistake.
quidditch88 SaysCan someone ans this- a number is mistakenly divided by 5 instead of being multiplied by 5. Find the percentage change in the result due to this mistake.
Let the no. be x
Actual value to be obtained = 5x
Value obtained = 0.2x
Percent change = 4.8/5 X 100 = 96%
quidditch88 SaysCan someone ans this- a number is mistakenly divided by 5 instead of being multiplied by 5. Find the percentage change in the result due to this mistake.
let no be : a
as per question: ((5a-(a/5))/5a )*100= 96%
let me know if I am wrong
quidditch88 SaysCan someone ans this- a number is mistakenly divided by 5 instead of being multiplied by 5. Find the percentage change in the result due to this mistake.
instead of 5a we got a/5
to know the % change..just put a = 100 [ makes cal easier;)]
so 500 became 20..a change of 480..480/500 = 96%
:)
quidditch88 SaysCan someone ans this- a number is mistakenly divided by 5 instead of being multiplied by 5. Find the percentage change in the result due to this mistake.
Let the number be 5.
=> 5/5 = 1 and 5*5 = 25.
=> %change = (25-1)/25 = 24/25 = 96%.
