Arun Sharma: Chapter 18. Questions 37 and 39
A newspaper agent sells TOI, HT, IN in equal numbers to 302 persons. Seven get HT and IN, 7 got HT and IN, 12 get TOI and IN , 9 get TOI and HT and 3 get all the three newspapers.
Question number : 37 .
What percent get TOI or HT but not IN?
Question number : 39 .
The difference between the number reading HT and IN only and HT only is?
Hi puys...GM...Can someone please help me out with this problem?
LOD 1...Time and distance
A starts from a point that is on the circumference of a circle, moves 600 metre in the North direction and then again moves 800 metre East and reaches a point diametrically opposite the starting point. Find the diameter of the circle?
a)1000 m
b)500 m
c)800 m
d)900 m
Hypotenuse of right angle triangle is equal to Diameter of Circle
So, 600^2+800^2=1000^2
Answer is A) 1000m
For 1st inequality,shouldn't it be any value??
For 2nd inequality,shouldn't it be (-1/2,1)
Nope.. those are the examples solved in arun sharma. couldnt exactly understand.. checked 3 times(wa there a typo mistake) but OA's are correct
please help on this..

Question number : 39 .
The difference between the number reading HT and IN only and HT only is?
each of the three papers are read by 112 people.
HT only = 93
IN only = 90
TOI only = 88
37.
(93+88+9)= 190
%= 190/302 around 63%
38. difference = 93-7=86
What are the OA's?
Pleasewith explaination
solve the inequality
1) 2x^2+x+1>=0
2) 2x^2+x-1OA
1)
2) any value
Arun Sharma's solution for the above two cases is wrong yaar.

chapter 7 LOD 1
1)A sum of money is borrowed and paid back in two annual instaIments of Rs. 882 eachallowing 5% compound interest. The sum borrowed was:
(a) Rs. 1620
(b) Rs. 1640
(c) Rs. 1680
(d) Rs. 1700
2)The population of a city is 200000. If the annual birth rate and the annual death rate are 6% and 3% respectively, then calculate the population of the city after 2 years
a)212090
b)212000
c)212180
d)215000
Please explain the approach
1. 1640
882*2= 1764(amount paid in all)
This should include interest + principal
Now easy way of doin this is through options
Say principal is 1640 (option 1)
5% of 1640= 82
First instalment = 882
So sum given for principal = 800
Interest paid = 82
Now principal is reduced to 1640-800=840
5% of 840= 42
Sum given for principal = 882-42= 840
Interest = 42
Everything satisfies. Cross check-->> total interest paid = 82+42=124
Also toal interest paid= 1764-1640= 124
2. Net growth = 6-3= 3%
over two years growth would be 6.09%
So ans should be 212180
formula= 200000(1.03)^2
If ABC is a quarter circle whose radius is 1 and if a circle is inscribed in it.find the radius of the smaller circle.
a) sqrt(2) - 1
b) [ sqrt(2) + 1 ]/2
c) sqrt(2) - 1/2
It would be great if someone could explain the approach without using options..
Let radius of smaller circle =x
=> x + xsqrt2 = 1
=> x=1/ ( 1+ sqrt2)
or x = (sqrt 2) -1

(a) Rs. 1620

(c) Rs. 1680

a)212090
b)212000
c)212180
d)215000
Please explain the approach
1) a=Total amount borrowed, b=installment
(1.05*a - b)*1.05 = b
put b=882 will get a=1640
so Ans is (b)
2) *= 212180
so Ans is (c)
If ABC is a quarter circle whose radius is 1 and if a circle is inscribed in it.find the radius of the smaller circle.
a) sqrt(2) - 1
b) [ sqrt(2) + 1 ]/2
c) sqrt(2) - 1/2
It would be great if someone could explain the approach without using options..
So 1=a*sqrt(2)+a where a=small circle radius
hence a=sqrt(2)-1
Option(a).
What is the remainder of 2^1990 when divided by 1990?
153=17*9....128^1000=2^7000.....
Use Chinese remainder theorem........
Rem=Rem=2*-1=-2=7....
Rem=Rem=1.....
9x+18y=1.....x=2 and y=-1 satisfies.....
So Rem=9*2*1+(-1)*17*7=18-119=-101=52.....
acc to c.r.t.
if a no.n=a*b (a & b are prime to each other)
and m is a no.such that
remainder=r1 & rem=r2
thn rem=ar2x+br1y=1 where ax+by=1
here 128^1000=m & 153=n=9*17(a=9,b=17)
Sources of misunderstanding!
Okay finally I got it.
But tell me also how to do this part... (I am a noob
)"Rem=2*-1=-2=7
Rem=1"
I am not being able to solve the following problem....Can someone please help me out...TSD, Arun Sharma LOD -II....
2 Indian tourists cycled 2wards each other from pt A n B respectively. 1st tourist left pt A 6 hrs later than the 2nd left pt. How to solve this??
Please help me solve the following question from arun sharma book (Number systems) :
Q-1) What is the remainder when 2(8!)-21(6!) divides 14(7!) + 14(13!)?
options: 1,7!,8!,9!
Q-2)How many integer values of x and y are there such that 4x+7y =3, while xoptions:144, 141,143,142
Q-3) A candidate takes a test and attempts all the questions in it. While any correct answer fetches 1 mark, wrong answers are penalized as follows: one-tenth of the questions carry 1/10 negative mark each, one-fifth of the question carry 1/5 negative marks each and the rest of the questions carry 1/2 negative mark each. Unattempted questions carry no marks. What is the difference between the maximum and the minimum marks that he can score?
options:100,120,140,none
Please give me detailed solution as my answers are not matching book's answer. thank you...

Q)A hundred and twenty digit number is formed by writing the first x natural number in front of each other as 12345678910111213......Find the remainder when this number is divided by eight.
options: 6,7,2,0
According to book last there digits will be 646. Can anyone please explain how?
Since there are total 120 digits in the number. hence applying the AP because it is caused by successively placing consecutive natural nos.
till 1-9= 9x1= 9 digits
from 10-99= 45x2=90 digits ( using 10+ (2n-1)x1=99 where n is the nth digit of the progression)
now 9+90=99 digits are covered.. remaining 120-99= 21 digits can similarly be expressed as 21= x*3 where the last natural no is at xth place from 100.
since x comes out to be 7 hence the no. in the last is 107.
now when divided by 8.. possible remainders are 1,3,5,7..
since only 7 is vailable in the options hence answer must be 7.
Sorry evn i can make out how the last no. is given to be 646.
Hope this helps!
Cheers!!
thanks....thank you very much paridhi!
wat is the answer given in arun sharma?
