Shaurya and Arjit take a straight route same terminal point and travel with constant speeds.At the initial moment , the positions of the two and the terminal point form an equilateral riangle .When Arjit covered a distance of 80 km , the triangle becomes right angled .When Arjit was at the distance of 120 kmfro the terinal , the Shaurya arrived at the point ,Find the distance between them at the initial moment assuming that there are integral distances throughout the movements described..

Two ducks move along the circumference of a circular pond in the same direction and come alongside each other every 54 minutes .If they moved with th same speds in the opposite directions, they would met every 9 minutes ,It is known that when the ducks moved along the circumference in opposite directions , the distance between them decreased from 54 to 14 feet every 48 seconds .What is the speed of the slower duck
a 20 feet/min
b 15 feet/min
c 30 feet/min
d 20.83 feet/min
e 18.33 feet/min
plz post the approach for this
Since the gap between them reduced from 54 to 14, means they have travelled a distance of 40m in 48 seconds...
implies v+u=40/48
=>5/6 feet/s
also its given that
v+u=d/9 feet/min
and the faster duct meets the slower one in 54min means to say, the faster ducts covers a distance D from slower one in v-u m/s
=>v-u=D/54 feet/min
=>(v+u)9=(v-u)54
=>v+u/v-u=6
=>v+u=6v-6u
=>5v=7u
=>v/u=7/5
we have already derived that v+u=40/48
so 7/5u+u=40/48feet/s
12u/5=40/48
u=25/72 feet/sec
u=25x60/72
u=20.833 feet/min

Its easy to explain with a fig, so refer to the fig i have attached..
Let TB=x,
its 30-60-90 triangle
so TA=2x
when arjit was at 120 km from terminal shaurya had reached the terminal, so let TA=120, which means AB=2x-120
so, TE=80+2x,means TF=80+2x(equilateral triangle)
hence CT=80+2x-x=80+x
ratio of speeds are
80+x/80=x/2x-120
x=80
so distance is 80+160=240km

A young girl counted in the following way on the fingers of her let hand.She started calling the thumb1,the index 2, middle finger 3, ring finger 4, little finger 5 then reversed, calling the ring finger 6 , middle finger 7, index finger 8, thumb 9 and then back to the index finger for 10 , middle finger for 11 and so on. She counted upto 1994.She ended on her??
a)thumb (b) index finger (c) middle finger (d) ring finger

1)there are 5 postions to fill..
First can be filled in 5ways,next can be filled in 4 ways and so on
that is 5x4x3x2x1=120ways
2)If do couple of trials u will realize that little finger recurs every 8th count after 5...
that is on 13,21,29.. find the nearest multiple of 8 close to 1994 which is 1992... 1984+5=>1989 will be little finger... so 1994 will be index finger
First question asked about the sum of all the possible situations...options are a.666660 b.6666660 c.666666
d.none
Thank you for the second question i was a bit confused about index finger and the ring finger. But the answer is middle finger in the book.. which seriously can't be possible i guess. So it can be assured that the answer is wrong.
do post ur questions,u wl get ur answers.
i guys
i have problem in question 14-21 of set theory
please give the solution
post ur questions..
Dear PUYs i hav just started CAT preps but with just 3 months left i don't know whether there is any merit in doing this.............
I have started quants with Arun Sharma but i m even stuck up in LOD I.
Please help me in following ques:
Q1: If a,b,c,d are in continued proportion then (a-d)/(b-c) =>x.
What is the value of x.
(a) 2 (b) 3 (c) 1 (d) 0
ans b
Q2: If a,b,c,d are proportional, then (a-b)*(a-c)/a = ?
(a)a+c+d (b)a+d-b-c (c) a+b+c+d (d) none of these
ans b
Please help me as I am getting desperate..............:
Hi According to me .just try.in answer 1 put a=1,b=2,c=3,d=4 and then solve u will get 3 which is x.

oh I missed that part of question
now keeping one digit fixed the remaining 4 places can be araanged in 4! ways.. Each digit will occur in 5 places 4! times.. So sum of digits of no is 24(1+3+5+7+9)=600
so of all numbers =>600(1+100+100+1000+10000)
=6666600
FIND LAST DIGIT OF 22^33^44^55^66^77?......please give the detailed answer
dark_knight89 SaysFIND LAST DIGIT OF 22^33^44^55^66^77?......please give the detailed answer
now 33^44 is of the the form 33^4k
so 22^33^4k^55^66^77
also 4k^55^66^77 is of thr form say 4T
so 22^33^4T
now 33^4T/4=1^4T=1
=>33^4T can be written as 4S+1
=>22^4S+1
=>22^4S x 22
=>6x2
=>2
whats the oa

your answer is correct,can u please tell me how 33^44 is of form 4k and 4k^55^66^77 is of 4T

well its like this
lets say a number 2^32, so this would be of the form 2^4k means to say when k=8 u will get 2^32, similarly 33^44=>33^4x11=>33^4K
and the last part, anythg power of 4 u can express them as 4T itself...literary means the expression would be somethg multiplied by 4..

for one side 3 people are already choosen.. So u shd choose one out of 7 people as 5 are already decided... for other side you can select 2 out of 6 in 6c2 ways... they arrange themselves in 4! ways each
