pls help me with the following problem:
10^n - (5 + 17^1/2)^n is divisible by 2^(n+2) for what whole number of n?
(a) 2 (b) 3 (c) 7 (d) 9 (e) None of these
thanks in advance 😃
Also with the following peoblem:
Find GCD ( 2^100 - 1, 2^120 - 1).
(a) 2^20 - 1 (b) 2^40 - 1 (c) 2^60 - 1 (d) 2^ 10 - 1 (e) None of these
if the answer is "None of these" then please let me know the answer..
thanks 😃

Answer is 2^20-1...just take the gcd of (100,120)...:cheerio:

chk the question...sth seems to be wrong here...
The Question is just as is in Arun Sharma. Chapter -1, LOD-III, Q-29
pls help me with the following problem:
10^n - (5 + 17^1/2)^n is divisible by 2^(n+2) for what whole number of n?
(a) 2 (b) 3 (c) 7 (d) 9 (e) None of these

not divisible....coz both 10 and (5+ 17^1/2) have other factors which cannot be divided by 2 alone...
i.e. to be divisible by 2^n,the numerator has to be some 2^k which is not possible in this case...
Hi!
Can anyone please help me with the following sums from the Alligations chapter:
1)A man buys milk at Rs.8.5 per litre amd dilutes it with water.He sells the mixture at the same rate and thus gains 11.11%.Find the quantity of milk mixed by him in every litre of milk.
(a) .111 litres (b) .909 litres (c) .1 litres (d) .125 litres
2)The price of a pen and a pencil is Rs. 35.The pen was sold at a 20% profit and the pencil at a 10% loss.If in the transaction a man gains Rs.4,how much is cost price of the pen
(a) Rs.10 (b) Rs.25 (c) Rs.20 (d) None of these
3)A vessel is full of a mixture of kerosene and petrol in which there is 18% kerosene.Eight litres are drawn off and then the vessel is filled with petrol.If the kerosene is now 15%,how much does the vessel hold?
(a) 40 litres (b) 32 litres (c) 36 litres (d) 48 litres
Kindly give a detailed solution

(a) 40 litres (b) 32 litres (c) 36 litres (d) 48 litres
Kindly give a detailed solution
1)
See the profit at first look is 11.11% which is 1/9
Thus he is mixing 1 litre(PROFIT) of water in 9 litre(CP) of milk...
Hence in 1 litre of milk,0.111 lt of milk...

2)Do this by options..it will be lot quicker...
Let Price of Pen be 25..Hence Price of Pencil is 10
Profit = .2 * 25 = +5
Loss = .1*10 = -1
Hence total profit/loss = +4...This is the correct answer..

3)Kerosene initial = 0.18 of Capacity of Vessel...
When 8 litres are withdrawn,Total Kerosene withdrawn=0.18*8=1.44 litres and total Petrol withdrawn = 8-1.44 = 6.56 litres..
After this percentage of kerosene = .15 of Capacity of Vessel...
Thus 1.44 litres --> 3 %
Hence 1% --> .48 litres
hence 100% --> 48 litres..
3 mangoes , 4 guavas and 5 watermelons cost Rs. 750. 10 Watermelons , 6 Melons and 9 guavas cost Rs. 1580. What is the cost of 6 mangoes , 10 watermelons and 4 guavas.
zenith_suv Says3 mangoes , 4 guavas and 5 watermelons cost Rs. 750. 10 Watermelons , 6 Melons and 9 guavas cost Rs. 1580. What is the cost of 6 mangoes , 10 watermelons and 4 guavas.
You sure that this statement "10 Watermelons , 6 Melons and 9 guavas cost Rs. 1580" is correct? I believe it should read as "10 Watermelons , 6 Mangoes and 9 guavas cost Rs. 1580".
sprry about that , stupid typo on my part
zenith_suv Says3 mangoes , 4 guavas and 5 watermelons cost Rs. 750. 10 Watermelons , 6 Mangoes and 9 guavas cost Rs. 1580. What is the cost of 6 mangoes , 10 watermelons and 4 guavas.
Then it's pretty easy. If 3M + 4G + 5W = 750
Then, 6M + 8G + 10W = 1500
And we're given this as the second statement:
6M + 9G + 10W = 1580
So, we can find out the G = 80
Now, we need to find out the value of 6M + 4G + 10W
We know that 6M + 8G + 10W = 1500
So, we just need to subtract 4G from this to find out 6M + 4G + 10W
Thus, 6M + 4G + 10W = 1500 - 4*80 = 1180
I have a little problem is to find the remainder
54^124 when divided by 17
I have a little problem is to find the remainder
54^124 when divided by 17
54 = 3 mod 17
54^4 = -4 mod 17 (as 3^4 = 81 and 17*5 = 85)
54^8 = -1 mod 17 (-4^2 = 16)
54^120 = -1 mod 17 (-1^15 = -1)
54^124 = 4 mod 17 (54^120 * 54^4 = -1 * -4)
Thus, answer should be 4

Its a typical venn-diagram quest.
considering the pass percentages,
80% passed in Physics, 70% passed in chem, and together 85%(100-15) passed in both. Therefore 15% passed only in Physics, 5 % passed only in chem and 65 % passed in both.Hence 65% of total no. of students appeared is equal to 325. Therefore total studs who appeared is 500.(answer)
