I've seen quite a few polls with people saying they wouldn't join PGDM IB and would rather wait for HRM/PGDM or choose another college. Even in the discussions, I can't help but feel that the IB program isn't rated highly by the candidates. To top it off, the WL movement was 1000 last year.
My understanding of the IB program is that it's a dual degree course with the same curriculum as PGDM while in India and similar placement opportunities at the end of the program. I'm aware that the cost can go upwards of 35L depending upon the city in Europe.
Now, is the reluctance towards PGP IB only due to the cost or has the quality of the program deteriorated over the years? Am I missing something here?
I tried to make sense of expected waitlist movement for HRM:
okay basically if we take last year waitlist movement, we saw 50 movement in pgp and 600 in hrm, this was on common waitlist, that means, the converts of both hrm and IB werent counted on the waitlist, so first they would have moved to higher preference(majorly pgp) and only after that the waitlist of pgp moved to 50 more people so total movement of pgp this year can be close to 100 or so, as for hrm we had 600 last year this means 60 of them moved to pgp and let me deduct 50 from this 600 just for extra measure, now we have 550 movement on hand, worst case scenario can be that none of them convert pgp so they will stay with hrm but even if that was the case we still saw last year movement till 600 that means these students move out to other colleges for various reasons and this time waitlist has arrived so late that many of them have already paid for other converted colleges, so until their pockets are hot they might prefer to stay with the college they selected(specially if they dont have high preference for HRM)and these first 2 lists converts are generally in range of CAT score 97-99, so if we take 20% seats in top colleges like FMS etc. these will be the ones who absorb these students, so minimum 400 seats movement will be there out of HRM to these colleges by the time their waitlist is completed, as mdi wait list is delayed it will keep moving further, best case scenario the movement can be higher if people prefer to either retry next year or settle for colleges like SIBM etc cause they dont want HRM, so waitlist will move by 500 for HRM, i have excluded IB form this calculations cause overlap in HRM and IB is lesser though even if there is over lap i have already undercut my estimates by few 100s so any error will get covered in that range.
P.S. I haven't even touched the issue of double counting in waitlists, as the person who would have applied in 2 or 3 courses will be there in the list for all of them, hence when he/she converts the course he/she wants that person will be removed from all the other lists hence the list will move further i.e. these will cause further movement in wait list be at least to least 50-60
I am currently waitlisted at 80 for HRM. Since everyone must have done a bit of research on HR ,please clear some of the below mentioned doubts. I had absolutely no idea about HR until now and even after some research on different kind of roles, I am not able to take a firm decision( have to pay for XLRI -NCR and have some financial issues so can't block money everywhere.) So, it will be really helpful if you could answer them.
1. Is it interesting and will it remain interesting after 10-15 years down considering it is a narrow field?
2. How does it fare for a kinda introvert person, extrovert only when absolutely necessary?
3. I was interested in a technical field like finance, so comparing HR to finance, how technical it is?
4. How much good looks matter for an HR?
5. I have no work experience , had been preparing for civil services earlier. So, I have absolutely nothing on my CV as of now. How difficult will it be for getting shortlisted for HR role in SIP?
Entire token amount except 1k is refundable,If I withdraw before 5th July, right?
Mail me likha hai I know , just confirming kyunki itna paisa transfer krne me dar lagta hai.
Correct me, if I am wrong...
There are 240 seats in pgpm and lets assume that 20% buffer calls are there for pgpm, so total 288 converts for pgpm and all of them must have converted HR too, right so
Till now 288 HR offers
Then people till waitlist number 290(approx) for pgpm must have also converted HR,
So till now total HR offers - 288+290 = 578 HR offers
Now let's assume that people with pgpm offers will not opt for HR(although I know a person who has selected HR instead of pgpm, so for the sake of such cases lets take that amount of people to be around 3 because almost no one chooses HR over pgpm)
So out of 578-288-100+3(the max that the pgpm waitlist will move,i assume,i.e., 100) = 193
So only 193 people might consider to join HRM out of all the HR converts.
Now the person with pgpm waitlist number of around 291 might have hr waitlist number as 1, so, if a person is waitlisted at around 200 suppose then he/she will be competing with 193+200-1 = 392 people for 60 seats of HRM
And similarly a person waitlisted at 250 will be competing with 442 people
Waitlisted at 300 will be competing with 492 people and so on so forth....
Now lets consider the case of someone waitlisted at 300. In such case, 492 people will be there in the competition. Assuming that out of these 492 people, 100 people convert some other good bschool like IIFTD, NITIE, Old IIMs or some people may even opt core mba in new IIMs because they don't want HR, XLRI, FMS, SJMSOM, IITD DMS,SPJIMR, etc. etc.
So people left, 492-100 =392.
Now, first of all is the calculation correct? (It maybe wrong in many ways)
And if it is right then do you think someone waitlisted at 300 suppose, competing with 392 people can get a seat at MDI, HR?
Please give your thoughts...
In MDI site the result page whats the userid and password ? I got the mail for conversion but not able to login.
PS: I am talking about the result in the first list only. No new list has come up 😅
Hello everyone!
Just wanted to try this for the very last time. Please please answer honestly and help your mate out.
I have made the following poll to see if any more withdrawals might be there in xlri hrm because the AO has indirectly said there might not be. Just trying this out as a last measure of hope.
