Prof. (Dr.) Preeti S. Rawat, Area Chairperson HR-OB Department, K J Somaiya Institute of Management, shares her thoughts on 'how HR functionalities have evolved with the onset of COVID-19', through an article published on PaGaLGuY (@pagalguy_hq ). She beautifully addresses the issues using the concept of 'Frames' - the theoretical perspective on how individuals perceive and communicate about reality. She proposes, that the HR officials should see the pandemic as a thematic event, which will provide permanent solutions, for smooth remote functioning of daily operations. She also emphasizes upon the importance of using smart technologies in HR practices and recommends HR leaders to use the right Frames. Ambassador Dr. Bhaskar Balakrishnan, Science Diplomacy Fellow, Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. 

He delivered an engaging lecture on ‘Sustainable Development Goals And Business opportunities’ at K J Somaiya Institute of Management.

He spoke about sustainability in goals for different business organizations, while using examples and instances to cover how Information and Communication Tools (ICT) can help us to achieve 17 sustainable goals.

K J Somaiya Institute of Management congratulates Dr. Shiji Lyndon for receiving the Best Advanced Research Paper award at The Doctoral Colloquium on Management and Research (DOCMAD) 2020, organized by the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) Her research paper focused on 'Emergence and Effectiveness of Shared Leadership: Unravelling the role of Transitive Memory and Team Mindfulness using Mixed-method approach'.

Mr. Kalpit A Mankikar is a skilled and experienced media professional who started his career in journalism in 1999 as a digital journalist, having recently served as a News Editor at Times of India for close to 8 years. Additionally, he is a contributor to the Observer Research Foundation, a leading national think tank. 

He talked about the topic ‘How effective is the strategy to project soft power through Private Corporations and businesses?’ - explaining it through two case studies; involving Africa, where corporate diplomacy has been successful, and Canada, where the case has been the opposite, respectively. 

The session was moderated by Dr. Satyendra Kumar Upadhyay, Head of International Relations, K J Somaiya Institute of Management.

An International Partner Talk Series was conducted with our esteemed partner institute, Vega School, (Capetown, South Africa), on 'Brand Purpose and Contact Strategy'. Dr. Carla Enslin, Founding Member, Head of Strategy, Vega School spoke on the importance of brand being meaningful, brand contact followed by cohesion with an emphasis on the popular brands of South Africa. She highlighted the importance of various touchpoints, such as the 'inside out and outside in' strategy of purpose in an enlightening talk. The session was moderated by Prof. Isaac Jacob, Area Chairperson, Marketing and International Business, K J Somaiya Institute of Management.

Inaugurated in February 1992 by Thomas Oaster and re-initialized in 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago, IMD is an occasion to highlight the importance of men’s experience, raise awareness, and promote basic humanitarian values. The 2020 theme is 'Better Health for Men and Boys' with an aim to make practical improvements to the health and wellbeing of the male population.

Mr. Sujan Roy is Head of International Business in Passenger Vehicles and Marketing for Electric Vehicles (Domestic) at Tata Motors.

Using his tremendous acumen and expertise in various subjects, he highlighted the diverse business opportunities that lie in creating effectiveness, simplicity and efficiency of products, while using historical examples to explain the continued unfairness in global trade. Further, he explained the role of 'Woke Customers' in shaping International Business and the idea of ‘Pax Indica’.

The Women's Development Cell at the K J Somaiya Institute of Management aims to create an environment where women feel comfortable to express themselves. And to create awareness about the same the committee organizes several events. Be it the Cyber Abuse Workshop aimed at creating awareness regarding cyber bullying or Social Vartalap, a debate competition organized to discuss the social issues concerning women, the committee has been marching ahead with its unique endeavours. In addition to these, the committee also organizes their annual flagship event, Manasvini in the month of March every year. The event aims at spreading awareness and starting a discourse around several issues that affect the women in our society.
