Participants of the 41st batch of IRMA’s flagship PGDM(RM) recently organised an Industry Connect Talk (ICON Talk) through a webinar. The guest for the ICON Talk was Mr. Murali Mohan Kapila, Associate Vice President Human Resource, Sathguru Management Consultants.
He started the talk with a video of famed stand-up artist Kenny Sebastian, on bargaining skills. He then shared about Sathguru being awarded ‘Great Place to Work’ for the last 5 years. He took us through different domains Sathguru has been working with, including Management Consulting, International Development, Cornell Sathguru Executive Education, etc. He then discussed the Principles of Negotiation, including developing basic relationship, better communication, listening skills, looking for mutual benefit and also being available with an alternative. After the initial part, he took a basic quiz on negotiation as well.
In the latter half, he discussed the skills required in negotiation such as confidence, people skills, and playing fair. He also went through styles of negotiation that include accommodation, compromise, collaboration and avoidance styles and explained each of them with examples. In the end, he also taught the basic negotiation mistakes to be avoided. The session was followed by a riveting Q&A.
