Reposting: Lets talk about ROI of an IIM and few things about new IIMs. I don't know how people calculate ROI. If you are dividing average package by fees then you are the dumbest person on this planet. What about networking? What about quick promotions due to your IIM tag? What about visibility of your resume amongst average college graduated students? There were companies which were offering 7 lpa and we were dying for it. Do you know why? Becoz within 3 to 4 years you will get 30 to 50lpa in that profile(investment banking). Even if you loose job due to market condition you will be hired by some other organization where your IIM friend would refer you. Now tell me how will you calculate ROI by taking these many things in to the considerations. Many aspirants says that increase in number of IIMs has diluted IIM tag. I would suggest them to look at the facts. Pre liberalization India's GDP was increasing at 1 or 2%. Number of jobs were also increasing accordingly. There were only 4 IIMs in India. Post liberalization (1991) many MNCs entered in India and GDP started growing at faster pace. Number of jobs were also increasing accordingly. More and more managers were needed. But number of IIMs were not enough to fulfil that demand. As always Indian government was very slow in response to market demand and opened Indore, Kozikode in 1996 and IIM Shilong in 2007. Later they responded to market conditions and opened new and baby IIMs. Today if you look at ratio of number of managerial jobs to the number of IIM graduates, it will be far higher than what was it before 1991. The reason why companies are not offering new IIMs as high package as an old IIM student get is that companies don't have enough experience with new IIMs. Sooner or later all new IIMs will reach that stage. You as an alumnus of that particular IIM will also get benefit of it. Average package/fees = temporary ROI all the things that I mentined above/fees = permanent ROI. Don't ignore any IIM call just bcoz it is new. Jo crack nai kar paya CAT wo yahi bolega ki ye new IIM me nai jana. Being an IIM Kashipur alumnus I respect every other IIM irrespective of their age. Old, new and baby IIMs are really trying hard to produce high quality manager. If you join any IIM then you will get to know that you become an IIMian not because you cracked the CAT and cleared WAT/PI. You become an IIMian bcoz of the efforts that college forces you to put in to make you a good manager.
Dear Adcom, This is regarding query about Work Experience. My workex as per CAT form ( CAP form as well) is 45 months. I will be working till June 30, 2020. Will there be any issue at the time of admission as my exact workex will be greater than CAT form experience? Please respond.

For those who have converted IIM Raipur, the last date to pay the initial fees of 75000/- is 5th June, and the refund policy states, if we withdraw the amount before 6th June, 1000/- would be cut and rest refunded. What if we cancel our offer after 6th June? How much of the amount will be refunded? Can the AdCom please clear this doubt?
Hi ADCOM, I have paid the offer acceptance fee throught the link provided in the mail. I received the order confirmation message but got no mail for that. Also, when i am logging in again into the given portal, it doesn't show that the fees is paid and asking to pay it again. Please reply if there's any issue with the server or if the fee is received. Thanks.
asking in a neutral grp: IIM Kashipur or IIM Visakhapatnam?? kindly comment the reasoning if possible.

Choosing MBA major specialization and career post MBAÂ
IIMs offer an MBA degree with no specialization written on it as they aim to prepare wholistic ethical business leaders. However, choosing a specialization is an integral element in your overall career trajectory. From my conversation with aspirants, I realize that few of them are uber clear about their specialization, while some have a just a fleeting notion of it. It is great if you have figured out early about your specialization as you can put more focused efforts from day 1.However the ones who havenât , it is completely okay and fine, you wonât be lagging in any aspect of it. Do not try to emulate what your friends want to pursue or what has more scope in the shorter run, remember career is a marathon and not a 100-meter sprint. There is no point in winning the rat race.
The Japanese principle of IKIGAI for a fulfilling and happy life suggests that your career should be a fine balance of four aspects:
1.What you love: Interests / Passion
2.what you are good at: Skills / Strengths
3.What you can be paid for: Market demand supply
4.What the world needs: Mission / higher purpose / meaning
IIMs unlike many private institutes will give you a sweet time of one year to decide on your electives and major specialization. My advice for everyone would be to come with an open mind to MBA . Explore and discover various facets of the curriculum and your personality with the pursuit to answer these 4 IKIGAI questions.Â
Socrates principle of âknow thyselfâ should be your primary tool in answering these questions. Introspect on what your skills, strength and values are. It would give you more confidence and peace  once you gain self-wisdom through introspection. Combine it with efforts like reading about curriculum, following industry trends through business newspapers, and talking to seniors in industry would help you to figure out your career specialization. Moreover, I suggest you to take Meyer Briggs psychometric personality test. In a scientific manner, it would help you to know more about yourself and your career possibilities. Being as honest as we can and leaving our double-faced mask would give a clearer picture in this test.Â
Its free , you can check the link : https://www.16personalities.com/
I would also request you to pay importance to all the subjects in first year of your MBA for three reasons.
1.Most of the IIMs like IIM Raipur, offer you the option of double majors. It allows you to expand your career possibilities and offer more career agility in switching between different domains and roles.
2. Business functions are integrated and often one must work in cross functional teams. Thus, your knowledge of marketing or HR would make you a more resourceful and efficient manager, even if you are working in finance or vice versa.
3. In the long run, once you reach the echelons of hierarchy as CXOs, or acquire strategy roles ,it would require you take multi-faceted and balanced decisions .Thus your overall business acumen gained through all the courses would come handy in those situations and make you a more effective leader.
I hope this article would help you in discovering yourself. It is a long and ongoing journey for which small efforts could lead to more fulfilling life. The lockdown has given us all more time, we can utilize it in a better way to realize our potential.
Wish you all success and a happy career ahead!
Guys honest opinion please...
