Over the years, IFMR has collaborated with world renowned economists and academics on breakthrough research. Nobel Laureates Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee (MIT Poverty Action Lab) along with Michael Greenstone (MIT), Sendhil Mullainathan (Harvard), Rohini Pande (Yale) and Erica Field (Harvard) were involved in research with Centre for Micro Finance Research (CMFR), established at IFMR in early 2000s.

Noted historian and Krea’s Distinguished University Professor, Ramachandra Guha encouraged the outgoing students to have a successful career but also to cultivate interests and explore the world outside the workplace.

IFMR GSB provides regular opportunities for its students to learn. Students at IFMR can apply for both CMA and CFA exam scholarship.
IFMR GSB is CFA affiliated and hence eligible to recommend students for CFA scholarships.
IMA, US (Institute of Management Accountants, USA) also grants scholarships to IFMR GSB students, to pursue the CMA program during their MBA.

The G L Mehta Memorial Lecture series at IFMR was very popular and over the years witnessed many renowned speakers. In 1995, Shri P Chidambaram delivered the G L Mehta Memorial Lecture on “Financial Sector Reforms”, Lord Meghnad Desai in 2004 on “Europe, the US and Asia in World Economy” and Dr Abhijit Banerjee in 2005 on “Developing Rural India”.
