A Letter to the CAT conveyor..
Dear Sir,
My name is XYZ. I wish to tell you something. Sir, I have fought tooth and nail to aspire to seek admissions at one of the most elite group of institutions in the country. I have worked really hard and given everything I could to excel in CAT. However, all I got was a shockingly dismal result.
As much as I whole heartedly accept it as a failure on my part that I did not do well as what the result says, I do feel that your elite institutes which I regarded in such high honours in excellence and in wisdom, failed to give me the right justice. I'll tell you how. Suppose I decide to test someone in an exam and suppose I do not tell him/her what questions he/she did right and what he/she didn't! Further I make his/her paper go through an esoteric process and just give him/her 'some numbers' as a final result. If I receive a complaint about the score I give him/her a 'Standardized answer' instead of solving his/her query! You think it would be a right thing to do Sir? Thats exactly how CAT has become.. unfortunately!
From people discussing answers on social forums to your opaque statistical process called 'Normalization'; you may admit this or not Sir but you do know that somewhere in the line the whole process got diluted in a way.. The truth is that in a race to give a 'Globalized Avatar', the day it moved online, CAT lost much of its credibility, fortunately IIMs didn't.. But now they might.
When anyone asks you for more transparency and the raw scores all he/she gets is a standard diplomatic answer that "All have been done to ensure equality.. and so on..and so forth.." as our Honourable Prime Minister gives standard political answers to shroud accountability.
Sir, as professor from such an elite institute, don't you think those students who give so much to this 'Exam' deserve better.. ?
Sir, Don't you feel they deserve to know the numbers behind this obscure Matrices by which their life is judged?
If so.. Please give them Justice.. for that is all they are asking. Give them the questions they faced in their respective slots.. Give them the answer key to each of the questions they attempted and the 'Statistical Weight' of each question or the 'Slot' and then how his/her slot was compared vis-a-vis other slots.. Give them those numbers. Let them know you are in the right. Let them know you are still the guardians of excellence and justice.. Give them hope..

Call from IIM-A but not from B, C or L. Am I lucky, unlucky or was it expected?
Please someone explain this anomaly to me.
Edit: I have gotten calls from the remaining IIMs (K, S and new), and FMS is also expected. But the twist is that I've just landed up with a 17+ LPA job, and this makes me reluctant to take up an MBA. Your advice.

For the future CAT 2014 aspirants:
My conclusion about CAT exams from the past couple of years is that "ACCURACY" plays a hell lot of importance in online CAT.......Two years ago, when i was in my final year of engineering, i started preparing for CAT.....I prepared for abt a year before my 1st CAT in 2012....everything was fine and my cat paper also went awesome....i attempted 23 in sec 1 and 27 in sec 2 with atleast 15 correct in sec 1 and 9 lr correct in sec 2....was expecting a decent score but got only 75%ile overall......Then i heard abt the importance of accuracy from my friend.....This year i prepared for only 2 months and attempted only those questions which i was sure about....attempted 16 in sec 1 and 18 in sec 2 and got 94%ile.....So my advice would be to pay attention to accuracy rather than a higher raw score with more incorrect answers.....I have a feeling that IIM's may go back to the paper-pen format within next couple of years....If that happens, then u don't need to worry abt anything else, just prepare hard.......ALL THE BEST to the future aspirants😃

Is there any possibility that IIM (older and the new one's) will lower down their sectional cut off's ?
I came across many people who have varied scores in QA nad VA Sections, and if IIM'S have any possibility of lowering sectional CUT -OFF'S( which are only a relief to OBC'S and SC/ST'S), I think most of us will get a fair chance to PROVE our mettle atleast !!!
