Your rank based on ur cumulative score will be calculated.. The first ranker will get his first preference when allotment of seats begins.. Followed by second ranker and so on..Suppose your rank is 450, and u chose Core, Banking and cap marks.. You will not get core as may be it is already allotted to min of 360 students before you, so they will look at your second preference.. If MBA Banking has seats which is your second preference, they will lock a seat for you and move on to the next person after ur rank.. They will ignore Cap marks for you as you have already got a seat in a more preferred program..
@shubhamchandra
just a little query..
is it possible that I get suppose banking(2nd option) & in subsequent
allotment rounds I get core(1st option) as students ahead of me has
declined the offer?

plz clarify...
thanks in advance...

kuch idea hai to btao :)

Pagalguy has a repository of information about CD/PI.

I am pasting a case study that was analysed a few years back on these threads
Hope it would be useful

Case study :

A company called XYZ inc. produces a low cost 'nofrills' photocopier which is very reliable, and has a large market share as well. Now a rival company named ABC inc. has produced a new expensive photocopier costing twice the nofrills photocopier. This has attracted high end users, and is starting to cut into the sales of the nofrills photocopier machines of XYZ. Moreover, it is receiving rave reviews in the media as well. The executives of XYZ inc. are a worried lot.

Some of them think that the company should go for increased R&D; so as to produce a new high end product of their own, while others prefer sticking to the old one. What should they do so that XYZ could get back the market share and sustain leadership in photocopier market segment??
Analysis of Topic 3 : GD based on case : What should they do so that XYZ could get back the market share and sustain leadership in photocopier market segment??(Courtsey: Sagar aka sagarragas )

Scenario 1:

Assumption made: The ABC's product is superior in terms of quality offered than that of the XYZ's.
Action to be taken:
1. The XYZ Inc. needs to analyse whether it can support a product with similar quality as that of the rival company. Thus, it would have to perform a cost benefit analysis to ascertain the financial capabilities of the company.
2. It needs to decide whether it needs to bring out a new product or improve the existing one. This would mean that it would have to look at the consumers' perspective of the product. By introducing a new product, XYZ would have to ascertain the effect the new product would have on the revenue of the older product and also the revenue of the company by large.
3. If the decision is taken about rolling out a new product, then the procurement of higher quality raw materials required would have to be looked into. The vendors for the new requirements have to be shortlisted based on various criteria like cost, lead time, reliability among others. If the existing product is to be changed, then it needs to be assessed as to which components will have to undergo modifications and the subsequent changes required with the vendor.
4. The marketing and sales strategies need to be looked into. - few suggestions on strategies can be suggested in discussion on this.

Scenario 2:

Assumption made:The ABC's product offers more functionalities than that of the XYZ's.
Action to be taken:

1. One needs to assess the effect of the functionalities on a new product. One needs to take a call after looking at the actual requirement for a new product. If ABC would not eat into the market share further and release of a new product would not be feasible, then no new actions have to be taken.
2. The R&D; department will have to work on the new product to suggest the modifications to offer a new product with added functionalities to combat with the rival. It needs to be seen whether the functionalities will have to match the rival product or exceed the expectations. One of the major factors that will have bearing will be the cost of the project per se. The time required for the introduction of the new product will also affect the outcome of the product.
3. Reverse engineering would mean that the better functionalities offered by the rival product will have to be traced back to the modifications in the design of the XYZ's product without looking into the design changes present in the rival product. This offers an ethical solution and could offer one of the best designs.
4. Marketing of the new product now assumes a major importance and the budget allocated for this exercise would have to be kept an eye on.

Scenario 3:

Other reasons for the change in the market share.
Action to be taken:
1. It could be assessed that the marketing model deployed could be better for the rival company or the high end users are targeted in a different approach without any changes in the benefits offered. The changes in the marketing strategies would thus have to be looked into. If the public believes that the exceeded price of the product is marked with a status value, then the strategies will have to be different than those if the value add is due to the quality or the functionalities offered itself.
2. If factors like untimely delivery of the product or inferior after sales services are the reasons for the disparity in the sales, then the business models have to be modified.
3. Reasons like credit offered could be the reason for the change observed. If so, the liquidity of the reserves in the company will have to be assessed to take a decision on the changes in the payment system.

The methodology used to improve the market share:
1. Estimate the factors in play for the reduction in the sales. Demographic, political, financial and other reasons have to be assessed. Appropriate steps as suggested above need to be taken.
2. A decision has to be taken whether the old product has to continue or a new product has to replace the old one or a new product has to be announced along with the sales of the old product.
3. The cost of the exercise of implementing the changes have to be assessed as the main motive of the company will be to increase the profitability of the company and not undermine it especially in the long run. If the company falls short of finances then alternative investments will have to be looked into.
4. Appropriate marketing decisions need to be taken along with adequate budget allocation for the same.

Do we need to make a single DD ??
If yes , do we need to send in two different envelopes ?
If two envelopes, then the dd goes into which one ??

@shubhamchandra Hi Shubham, Thanks for the info. since my call letter mentions only PGDM Blore and Hyd, this means that there is no way I can state my preference for MBA core during the interview right?
If it says only PGDM, it means your marks are not sufficient to make you eligible for MBA COre.. So even if you do, they won't consider it..

When they allot you second preference, they either put you not selected for 1st Preference indicating your rank is tooooo low to be considered for 1st option or they waitlist you.. So just hope if you don't get your 1st preference, your waitlist is not too high diminishing your chances for the 1st preference..

@manas22@shubhamchandraIn my NMAT app form I filled the aggregate of only 5 main subjects for SSC scores as i am from CBSE board.I had an additional subject of hindi in 10th.When i asked authrities whether it was correct or not i got mixed responses and finally was told to think about it when i have to fill the form for CDPI.Now that it's there can u tell me the correct way to fill my class 10th scores ?Should i mention aggregate including ALL subjects or the main 5 i studied throughout the year ? m from CBSE boardDo reply
When you produce your CBSE marksheet, all the subjects mentioned on it will have to be replicated on your form... However if 6th subject is reducing your percentage, you can ask the authority at the venue what should be done.. They will help you...

what exactly are you trying to ask?
@theairbender so basically we analyse the given situation as if we are the managers of the company. Assess the ground realities, propose solutions, evaluate each solution and try to put together a plan to address the problem. Correct me if I'm wrong. Really need more clarity on CD with examples. Could we fix a time for this weekend and practice a CD?? @dhruvwali @hiteshpratap @shrey2013 and others?
@akashgupta1987 A case study is a collection of facts and data based on a real or hypothetical business situation. The goal of a case study is to enhance your ability to solve business problems, using a logical framework. The issues in a case are generally not unique to a specific person, firm, or industry, and they often deal with more than one retail strategy element. Sometimes, the material presented in a case may be in conflict. For example, two managers may disagree about a strategy or there may be several interpretations of the same facts.
In all case studies, you must analyze what is presented and state which specific actions best resolve major issues. These actions must reflect the information in the case and the environment facing the firm.
STEPS IN SOLVING A CASE STUDY
Analysis should include these sequential steps:
Presentation of the facts surrounding the case.
Identification of the key issues.
Listing of alternative courses of action that could be taken.
Evaluation of alternative courses of action.
Recommendation of the best course of action.
@akashgupta1987 - find one case study of business problem. try solving it on your own. based on step by step approach of what ia given above. we can provide inputs how to go about it.or which area u may need improvements.
