I will still maintain that if u are well versed with Schweser , U can crack the exam... Schweser also provides the sample question papers. So Schweser Notes and Papers are more than enough to crack it. I cleared in June09 and my friend cleared in Dec09 both with 8/10 in first quartile and 2 in second quartile.... The obvious advantage to us was both of us are from commerce background....
Mate you have given the reason yourself you were from com. background For someone with non fin background in the current period schweser may not be enough

I accept .... I cant speak on behalf of non- finance background.... But a genuine question, Are there material available better than Schweser..? So that Even I can take a look at it.... Of corz, the modules provided by insti are supreme.... But any other brand which is BETTER than Schweser ?

No among the non insti material schweser is the best But as the word has come it is not going to be enough
Guys, i am doing my final year B tech, have a CAT percentile of 99.02. I wanna wait for another year and give CAT again, TIME guys offered to place me to teach Quant and DI.
Wat could be the pay scale?? pls lemme know if anyone of u have already worked like this.
here comes THE man.. CFA L2 ppl like you have got shortlists.. but with such terrific acads, even without CFA, shortlists are guaranteed.. academics plays a big part here.. But i am 100% sure that I know atleast one CFA L2 guy who had not got a shortlist ..
CFA L2 ALONE doesnt guarantee you shortlists.. I stand by my statement .. ofcourse you know much better..
Even I said it doesn't guarantee, but people you know wouldn't have gotten their shortlists if they didn't give the CFA, what do you think ?
Again, I didn't have relevant work experience like you did 😁

Hi all
I am a chemical engineer who was working with a company in the field of computational fluid dynamics ( ya, completely non fin). I started taking the CFA exams jun 07 onwards, and schweser was the main source for my preparation. I had cleared L2 before my MBA started just in case someone might say that i had an MBA edge I'd just say that schweser just gives u enough to clear the test. If one does selective reading from schweser, then he's screwed. Selective reading can be done when reading from the original CFA books, in case one is refering schweser, the complete book needs to be read and practiced. Hope this gives some perspectives...

Hey all I think kamal has got a point here. Acads does matter in an i-bank shortlist. I hope people will agree when i say that summers shortlists have decent randomness (luck factor) associated with them. (strictly out of my experience at IIML during my summers) In my case, i interned with merrill lynch private equity. My shortlist was only due to a CFA L2. Cause till then we didnt have our 1st term cg out and I am a non-iitian, so I dont have any major academic achievements as such.
Moral: CFA is not a magic wand that gets u thru an i-bank, its just a way to add value to yourself and strengthen your profile. It lends a lot of credibility to your profile.
Hi am Suman Banerjee. Hello to all respected thread member.
I am in great confusion regarding doing CFA(International). I have done CFA(Not ms finance) from ICFAI (Just passed in Jan 2010). In that juncture i need advice from all respected member whether to pursue CFA(Int) will be beneficial for me or it will add some weight on my CV?
I know it it is very respectable course in the finance industry all over the world. But when i am searching for equity research analysts post in various broking firm or investment banking firm in India they just want CA, MBA frm coveted B-School but no place for CFA(ICFAI) or CFA(Int) either. So pls clarify on that matter pls.
What is the salary after completing CFA level-1 in india? Can anyone pls tell me? Becos based on all this i will decide whether to go in that path or not.
So pls advice. And on that basis i will make register myself for CFA(int) as early as possible so as to sit for Dec 2010 exam.
Its been a looooong time since I visited PG. Well now i m here again to benefit from it.
I m in very bad condition .... filled the form for level 1 June exam and rite now i have to study 1 entire book (book 1) and Alternative Investments try to kill me every day. My preparation efforts are sabotaged by my proffs thru long extra classes on wekends and regular effort is marred by pending project reports and case studies....
hi friends.. i have some queries which was not cleared after reading the starting posts...please answer them. views from many member are welcome as that helps in taking the decision and evaluating my decision for CFA.
1) as far as i have knowledge CFA is a self studied course then what is CFAINTERNATIONAL and some of the students doing it from ICFAI. is it done from college also?
2) i am a computer engineering 2009 passout but want to change field. planning go for mba(finance) abroad after 4 yrs. my profile is not too good with extra curr activities. moreover mba is a completely different field. to compete with international students and to get initial edge with studies and also with good internship and job after mba, i am planning to go for cfa level 1 in 2011. joining tech m in april2010 with 2 yrs bond. within this period i plan complete cfa level 2 in june 2012. friends is it a wise decision? am i right with my plan to go for CFA? will it really help me in MBA with the intention i want to go for it(edge in studies, internship, job)?
3)is time of a) 6 months (between august1010 to may2011) with 2-3 hrs everyday enough for clearing cfa level 1? b) next 1 yr for cfa level 2?
4)a)is jobs available after completing cfa level 2? (some concern raised by AVI030 member in 2 post above. do consider that aspect.) b)what can b the prospect of CFA in 2012? c)what salary i can expect with cfa level 2 or have to work free to gain experience?

I m not sure how much a ICFAI CFA can help you to get a role of equity research analyst in any decent firm. Being in this field, I can tell you that there are VPs and big guys who havent even cleared one level of CFA(US). It would add value to you only if you are in a US based firm or some back office for US firms. Mind that, it will "add value" but of itself will not be of any use. There are exceptions to this: Consider a person who has a lot of industry experience say, worked in automobile industry and knows in and out of the sector. These kind of guys are very much in demand for an equity research analyst , provided they show that they know some finance, which is very easily established by a CFA degree / level 1 too will help.
If you do not fall in the above case, 3 levels of CFA would help you to move from a small not so famous equity reserach firm to a famous wel known firm.
Bottomline, I m afraid a cfa level 1 wouldnot by itself fetch you a job. If you are very very keen abt getting into Equity research, better gain industry experience ( 3 years) and side by side cfa 3 levels and you are ready to be eaten up by top i banking firms and research firms!

As i already mentioned in some post, CFA by itself will not get you a job anywhere but it can enhance your profile, say an MBA in finance plus CFA wud be a great PLUS.
IF you are intent to get into finance and planning to do an MBA after four years in finance, you should avoid the "IT" space. There are millions like you in IT, who want to move to finance, and unless you have a strong differentiation from others, you would not be able to move out, and if you are too late ( 4 years exp) unless you do it from a damn gud b school you wont be able to shift your field...
I know i didnt answer all your queries but hope its useful.
