Hi Mandevians...(and mandevians to be)....
I have some doubts about loans....
most of the answeres to loan querries so far were to the tune of....it's easy geeting a loan..
banks will run after u...don't worry it will happen....
but i guess its about time.....
First of all....
Q>Shud i get a loan at all? or shud i ask my dad to pay....i mean...wat r the benefits of a
loan in terms of taxes or what r the downsides like with respect to being bonded...
Q>How many of u at MDI are finiancing your own educatin thru loans...
and what r the diffrent schemes?
Q>Is 5 petti (mumbai talk for lakh) a good enuf for 2 yrs...with personal costs and laptop
included. or is it 5 and a half petti?
Q>Can i get the 'loan ball' rolling be4 the first installment itself ( 2 months time)?
Q>I have no savings from my job...2 yrs...(what ever i have i plan to spend in 2 months
i have always wanted a bike)....Shud i still take a loan considering i will come out of
college deep in debt....
Q>Have u heard of any instances where a senior had probs with the loan...big or small...
so we can avoid the same mistakes....
Q> in general....with an average pakage of 5 laks pa after MBA...how long will it take to
break even....
Thanks
Love, Peace & Rock'n'Roll

Also one specific thing is I have got the company exp certificate stating the time I have been working there. This I got becos i said that i want to apply for credit card and so require residential proof....
Now please let me know do i need specific reliving letter sort of in order to join...

Prateek
what is the duration of the semesters at MDI and when do you get holidays
means how many times a year
also, how much attendance is compulsory?
one query about the semesters!

also, how much attendance is compulsory?
We do not have semester system, rather a trimester system, where u have terms of 3 months each. First three terms generally have 7 subject each (all compulsary).
Atleast 86% attendance is compulsary in each subject!!!
We had our first holiday after the end of 2nd term We joined college on 24th june & my first holidays of seven days started on 24th december !!! )

Hi Guys..
I guess Prateek forgot to mention, and its really important that all of you know... so I'll put this in.
For everone considering education loans :
SBI offers a 'Scholars Loan' at 9.25% or thereabouts for MDI students - you dont need any collateral / security from your parents, and you dont need too many other documents either. All you need is a letter from the institute saying you are a bonafide student, and viola! the loan is in your lap.
Since this is the first year the loan is being offered, none of us have availed it as yet, but some of us are planning to . Proceedings are expected to happen sometime next week , so will update on the same again. Moi is also applying for it , but since I wanna transfer from another bank, I dunno if it will happen.
For people considering other loans , you will usually require your parents to become gaurantors, and some kinda security as well. The rate is usually between 11 - 12%.
I dont know of troubles faced by anyone in our batch - getting loans can be tedious in terms of paperwork, but otherwise isnt much of an issue. You also need to pay some amount of the fees yourself (15% in my case).
Hope this helps,
Ashi

Ronnie...
there is generally a moratorium period.. (dont know if the spell is correct)..
anyways.. the EMI is calculated such that there is appx 30 month moratorium.. ie 24 months of ur study time.. plus 6 months after pass out.. u may start paying as soon as u get a job tho which ever is earlier..
upto 4 lakhs.. u dont need any collateral. ( but yes u need a guarantor).. all banks give this.. its as per national policy on student loan disbursement for higher studies inside India - 2004.
i think everybody should go for a loan ( even if he/she is the next to kin of sultanate of brunie.. it just makes lot of sense ).. also these days getting loans isn ot difficult at all.. Indian rupee sells very cheap and very easy..
STILL COULDNT GET HOLD OF MY COURIER GUY !!!!> WAAAAHHHHH>>
hey has there been an changes in the tax benefits for the students loan in the new budget? i mean , there used to be exemption on students loan. is it still thr or removed?
