They are allotted, generally, 2-3 branches, have to procure business and implement marketing strategies
Dear friends,
I am working as a clerk in bank of baroda. I went through a youtube video in this group which tries to explain which is better PO, SO or Clerk..I want to let you guys know only few of the points thay guy made in that video is true....rest all are not true at all..
First of all salary structure for PO and SO is same as both the cadres start from scale 1 officer level. But in case of Marketing Officer you may expect some extra allownaces and perks like mobile allowance, allowance for blazer, some extra litres of petrol, refreshment and diem allowance when you spend your working hours in field specially out of your territory...sometimes MO needs to go on site inspection which may be even 100-150 km far from your terriotory....although these allowances and perks depend upon bank to bank...Apart from these PO are generally posted in branches in rural area, semi urban and very rarely in metro area. there is unbearable pressure of intolerant customers in branches and hence PO need to tackle them which is very very tough..trust me i have seen customers hitting PO and clerks physically in branches(although a police complaint was filed but again bank mgmt never helps you. all they sing is customer first).
I work in a very remote area (a small village with only one bank BOB and a post office since last 45 years, nothing else) of MP under BOB Indore region. A IT guy from bangalore joined as PO in my branch and guess what he resigned in just three months.(i do not second his decision but its really tough to survive in these rural areas). I know at least 10-12 guys who has resigned from PO due to this pressure..you need to sit late hours in branches..guys please dont think i am demotivating you but going home at 7 pm is myth specially for PO( clerks have a time bound duty they can go home after 5;15 pm). Although few branch managers are liberal enough to let PO go home at 7, but there a few managers who will let you do this.
Now if we come to MO you will be posted in metro, tier 1 or tier 2...job profile differ from bank to bank...some banks like ubi, iob allot 4-5 branches to MO and their duty will be to increase overall business of branches and to work by coordinating with branch heads..you will be reporting to chief manager who will be sitting in regional office...but you will get a place where there will be at least 4-5 branches of that bank...so guess now only a city with basic infrastructure and facilities will have that number of branches. So you will be working always in cities...for rural branches there is a post RDO(which is generally an Agri Guy)...MO is for cities....
But some banks have a different profile for MO...MO are posted in regional office and they manage the things from there only...but this does not mean you will not be travelling...you will be travelling to the farthest branch of your region time to time to help the branch meet their targets. And the rest of days you will be calling branches, clients, taking follow ups, and managing some of the branches which are imp and are located in the same city where your regional office is located.
Frnds, here also its not that easy to go home at 7 specially when you will be working in RO because DGM never allows RO guys to leave early...but there is a culture in RO...if DGM is not there in the evening hours(6-7 pm), all the staff leave the office which happens twice or sometimes thrice a week because DGM frequently travels for meetings and branch inspections...Also it depends upon your boss if he lets you go at 7 or not...apart from this it is true that MO and RO guys generally work in holidays...this is bitter truth...although one should know to use tactics so that your boss does not call you to work frequently on holidays.
Now come to promotion. PO are promoted in 2-3 years while SO are promoted in 4-5 years..My HR mam has been working since last 10 years and she is already scale 3 and now she is eligible for scale 4 promotions...yes this is true a SO can not become chairman as a chairman should have a full stack exp and knowledge of 360 degree banking...but after 5 yrs of your joining as SO you will be given a chance to switch in PO/general banking (in case you are interested in becoming chairman). and this not true that highest post in MO is chief manager...There is GM for sales and marketing...So chill there is huge scope in MO...
Now transfers and work life balance...SO has a better work life balance as he will not be transferred as frequently as PO( that too in remote rural areas).. i know many scale 1,2,3 PO who live away from their wife and children due to their frequent transfers in rural or semi urban areas..But a MO can shift their family to a new city on transfer as a city is always full of basic infra and facilities like schools for children and all that...
Now branch manager. After scale 3 it is possible that a MO become a branch manager (its not a thumb rule, in the rarest of the rare case even scale 1 MO can become a branch manager. it depends upon bank requiremnt but again for a limited time because you can ask them for marketing roles). It depends upon your image, performance all that... I personally never want to become a branch head. I do not like the profile..I want to scale up in MO only as location of posting matters me a lot....every one can have their own priorities..
So guys clearly SO is better than PO specially for people like me who want to live in city and want to stay away from intolerant customers and branch banking headache...
Poeple who want to settle at a place or in their hometown, clerk is best for them as it is the only 10 to 5 job in bank. no frequent transfers and if there will be one, it will be in 100 km radius. but salary thodi kam hai...dekh lo agar usme compromise kar ssakte to ho best hai..
I am working at bob as clerk, have cleared SO VI, have got my first preference canara bank and currently preparing for other competitive exams also as i believe there are things better than MO also and one should keep trying for them...I don not even consider PO job for me as i can not survive as a PO, thats not my cup of tea..thats why i do not fill the PO forms...my 3 of colleagues( PO) have cleared clerk VI and they are going to join as they want to live a balanced life...but for now MO is best available option for me so i am going to join....All the best to everyone...
Once you get in bank you will understand these things more clearly...
Anybody knows tht fr Canara Bank MO w'l thy do the medical test at their center or we have to take d certificate from govt.doctor of our wish....

I got allotment from IBPS as SO-MO in BoB (Bank of Baroda). I have less than 50% in graduation(BSc). 43.50% to be exact. Does BoB have any criteria of marks deciding the eligibility? Do u think i'll face problems in document verification at BoB?
Plz help. I'm really tensed.

One serious doubt regarding document verification, Bank alloted BOB.. My interview center was Lucknow BOB as nodal bank ... Mera General management me MBA h , they didn't ask for any certificate ( of marketing) n verified the documents at the time of interview . Kya ab marketing MBA k regarding kuch issue ho sakta h ... pls tell, m little bit tense
