Ans : Option 'B' Square thread
For power screws, the Acme thread is not as efficient as the square thread, because of the additional friction due to the wedging action.

A crane is used to lower weights into the sea( sea water density = 1025kg/m3) for an underwater construction project. What is the percentage reduction in the tension in the rope of the crane due to a rectangular 0.4m x 0.4m x 3m concrete block(density = 2300kg/m3) when it is completely immersed in water compared to the tension in the rope when it was suspended in air.
Ans: Option 'A' 45%
When Suspended in air,
T = W
T= 2300 x 0.48 x9.81
T = 10830.24 N
When concrete block is completely immersed in water,
TR + B =W
TR = (2300-1025) x 9.81 x 0.48
TR = 6003.72 N
Reduction in Tension when it is completely immersed in water compared to the tension in the rope when it was suspended in air = (T - TR) x 100/T = (10830.24 - 6003.72) x 100/10830.24
= 4826.52 x 100/10830.24
= 44.56%
Reduction in Tension in rope = 45%
