Hi, I am Ramesh currently working as Software Engineer for past two years . Planning to write CAT this year and it's going to be my first attempt . Please give me some suggestions regarding the preparation and coaching classes , if any.

Its not necessary that you have to join any coaching classes. No harm in doing preparation by self. I know many people who have cracked into the likes of IIMA, IIMC etc. who have done that!! You can do your own prep, but check in "Request or Offer to donate CAT material" thread (use PG search at top right) to see if you can get hold of some coaching institute material. Anyways, I would recommend to at least join a test series because it gives you an idea of which section/topic you're weak in and needs improvement & also an approx. idea of where you stand wrt to 1000s of other actual CAT takers across the country. You can probably join TIME AIMCATs, CL ProcMocks, TG, TestFunda etc. (Again I would recommend 2 out of them as the patterns/difficulty levels are different and you need to be prepared and acquainted to face anything in CAT!!).
