Look you can break CAT preparation into 4-phase.

1) Concept building- This is mainly concerned with knowing the basics, which are absolute essential. So try to cover the basics as soon as possible.

2) Second step is getting the feel of questions which are generally asked in CAT. So you can purchase any book which has a collection of previous years CAT questions and start solving them.

3) Mock CAT-if you have not given any mocks till now, so please start taking them. Don't waste your time in thinking that you will start them when you will get fully prepared, because there is nothing which is called a complete preparation.
4-5 Mocks are sufficient to reflect your true picture as where are you standing right now. Don't get disheartened if you don't perform well in them.

4) Analyse each and every mock. Try to figure out on which areas you are lacking, what are your strengths, how you can improve your mock scores, do your strategy is working for you or not.

Study regularly for at least 5-6 hours daily. Concentrate on each section because unbalanced score is of no use. 20-25 mocks are mocks are more than sufficient
And the most important thing is don't lose your heart even when things are not going as you have planned and you are not getting very high %ile in Mocks. I have seen many people who didn't scored well in mocks, but ended up getting very good scores in CAT.
Remember Cat is just like football, what matters is that how you perform on the D-DAY. Even the WC champs Spain lost their first match, but still went on to win the WC.
