(IDBI Executives & SBI Junior Associates 2018)
If u r in the waiting list of IDBI executive exam then this is the post for u. This will be a long post. Please read patiently. If u don’t like u can ignore.
Here are some facts from last yr recruitment(2017):
Vacancies:500
Merit list:500 candidates
Wait list: 500 candidates
Here are some facts from this yr recruitment(2018):
Vacancies:760(380 reserved)
Merit list:760 candidates
Wait list: 1205 candidates
In 2017, they kept the ratio of merit list:Wait list=1:1
In 2018, the ratio of merit list:Wait list=1:1.6(approx)
Now think what could be the reason behind changing the ratio. The only reason that I can think of is that the previous ratio was not working for them. By this I mean to say they were not able to fill all the vacancies using this ratio and thus the remaining seats were added to this yrs recruitment. That’s why they also increased the number of students in waiting list this yr so that more students can get the opportunity and no seat remains unoccupied.
Now talking of last yr, for 500 vacancies they kept 500 students in the waiting list which is a big number considering the number of vacancies. Does that mean they were thinking that no one in the merit list will join initially. The answer is No, actually this answer is based on previous observations and experience. They must have noticed that only a certain percentage of the crowd shows interest in joining.
May be this is the reason behind the big waiting list. But what could be this percentage? Is this a fixed number or it changes year to year?
Lets say x% of the crowd shows interest in joining. Then
x% of 500(merit list)+x% of 500(wait list)=500
Gives x=50% which means that they were thinking that only 50% in the merit list will join initially. Rest 50% they can get through waiting list. That’s why they placed 500 students in the waiting list.
But this 50% formula failed. Had it been successful, this yr waiting list would also have 760 candidates. But more candidates are placed in this yrs waiting list. That means value of x%<50 . So lets find the value of x% they are taking this yr.
Remember x% reflects the amount of crowd that shows interest irrespective of how big or small the crowd is? In simple words, Value of x% means the number of students from merit list that will join the bank accd to IDBI. This assumption helps them to assume the no of students to be placed in waiting list.
For this yr,
x% of 760(Merit list)+x% of 1205(Wait list)=760
7.6x+12.05x=760
19.65x=760
Solving will give value of x~38.7 %
i.e 38.7% of 760~294 students
Thus arnd 300 students will join IDBI from merit list. This is what IDBI is assuming. Rest arnd 460 seats will be filled through waiting list.
What are my chances of clearing waiting list???
The chance of you clearing the waiting list depends upon the the willingness(to join) of candidates having more marks than u.
So lets change the question. Which people have bright chances of clearing waiting list. I will talk of UR category. UR cut off=96.5 and waiting list cut off will be roughly arnd 90.5(accd to data given by people on this thread) which means a gap of 6 marks. Accd to calculations done above ,38.7% of the top students(roughly 40%) have bright chances in every category. Now 40 % of 6 is 2.4 and subtracting this from 96.5 will give 94.1 Thus students with 94+ score in UR in waiting list have bright chances of clearing. I am not saying that others have no chances but there chances are dependent on these students.
Now, assuming ,in 1205 students, 600+ students are from UR. Considering 6 marks gap in cut offs in waiting list and merit list that means 100 students per mark. Now 40 % of 600~240 and 240/100=2.4 and again 96.5-2.4=94.1 THis again means students with 94+ have bright chances of final allotment.

How many students we can expect with 91.75 marks in OBC category in waiting list?
Since there are only 202 posts for OBC category. May be we can expect 50 OBC people may not join from the merit list then those with 91.75 marks will have max chances. I just got 91.50 marks. Just want to confirm my chances to get in from you friends.
Any idea in how much time waiting list candidates will be called??
With in one week may be IDBI mails IDBI executive selected candidates for confirmation...
