Lord Mayo was the only Viceroy who was murdered while in office.


 While visiting the convict settlement at Port Blair in the Andaman Islands in 1872 for the purpose of inspection, he was assassinated by Sher Ali Afridi , a convict.

This incident happened at the foot of Mount Harriet .


 Mount Harriet National Park is now a national park located in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
