Financial insurance and depositor bill: From my understanding, "Government is not revoking it's depositor insurance guarantee of upto 1lakh, it is transferring it's responsibilities to resolution councils, which will be vested with all powers. They will determine the role if bank goes under bankruptcy. It essentially means, bail in clause wherein the government will provide the tax payers money to bail banks out. However banks' corporations won't be affected. Resolution councils will decide everything from minimum issurance clause. It doesn't address the whole issue. Rather, it only limits the liability. We don't have EU like regulations to punish or change shareholding of banks' corporations who essentially act as risk takers for funding unviable corporates and contributes to npa's. This is my understanding about the whole bill in simplified version. Pls do comment if you have alternative views about this.
