TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
I will describe my working methodology/strategy which i would have followed if i were to write IBPS Mains 2017. Please keep in mind we have different strengths and weakenesses, thus, pick up cues from my methods and supplement to your own routine(if beneficial).
1. English-
Any kind of pattern change can be efficiently countered if one has decent comprehending ability as well as reading speed. To improve upon these two traits, we need to pursue the boring habit of READING EVERYDAY. Initially, this practice might seem futile but kindly hold on to it as any significant improvement will be seen only after 8-10 days. The sources for reading purpose are as follows:
a. The Hindu Editorials - Read 2 articles everyday (http://www.thehindu.com/opinion/editorial/)
b. Livemint Opinion- Read 2 articles everyday (http://www.livemint.com/opinion)
Along with this, refer a Grammar PDF if you're poor at error detection (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4PLQGDXRia_RTI3YWZ4TVRoZmM)
Lastly, gauge your improvement with mock tests. Analyse your mistakes diligently and make sure not to repeat the same mistake. If you have allocated more time to improve English, you can take practice tests from AC/BA/Aspirantzone websites.
2. Quant/DI-
a. Scan the whole section completely in first 3-4 minutes and decide your order of approaching questions. You will get enough time in Mains as there is sectional timing, thus speed won't be an issue. Try it in mocks and see if it works for you.
b. Focus on accuracy rather than attempts. Accuracy holds the key in a difficult/different/conceptual paper.
STUDY SOURCES:
1. Quantum CAT by Sarvesh Verma Book/Meritshine videos/Takshzila videos- As DI is testing concepts in new pattern, you need to be strong in high priority topics such as Profit/Loss, Time/Work, Speed-Distance-Time, Boats and Streams etc. Pick 4-5 important topics or more(if you have time) and learn them completely from either of the three sources mentioned.
2. Take mocks regularly after building basics as it will have mixture of conventional and non coventional DI. Also remember to analyse each and every question in depth. This is the only way you won't make same mistakes again and again.
3. Reasoning-
a. PUZZLES:
Although i am myself poor at it, but i would follow these rules to improve: Practice puzzles from various PDFs. Pick any PDF and start solving 3-4 puzzles everyday. Do not worry about time in the first 10 days, just focus on solving it. After 5-10 days, time your puzzle for 6-7 mins and see if you are able to solve. Solve completely even if time is exceeded but see how it could be solved in least possible time.
b. SYLLOGISMS:
I learnt it from a Youtube channel. If you learn it properly, you will learn it forever and won't have to worry about it anymore. Most probably you would be good at it already. The new pattern syllogisms may appear in IBPS Mains.
c. CRITICAL REASONING:
This is a high scoring section but needs constant practice to master it. Learn the basic rules of CR from this book (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B52xCsoTiYJpai16WjJQbENLRTg/view) or this book (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7K_hSPDJuObdTE4SjZTQjg0V2M) and practice questions from mock tests/websites etc. In CR, look for eliminating wrong options rather picking the right one.
d. MISCELLANEOUS:
These can be practiced through mocks only. Solve them with a calm and neat manner. You will get most of them right.
e. COMPUTER APTITUDE:
They are generally testing our common sense with composure in this area. You don't need any special preparation for it. Read the instructions with a calm mind and you will crack most/all questions under it.
4. General Awareness(GA)-
a. Current Affairs: AC/GK-To-day/Ban-k-ers A-d-da : Follow anyone of the PDFs(3-4 months) thoroughly along with AC and G-K-tod-ay quizzes. You need to revise at least 2-3 times before examination as retention power will differentiate an average scorer and a high scorer in General Awareness. Preferably, devote half your study time to GA as return on investment is most in this section.
b. Banking Awareness: Refer RBI FAQs list and/or Banking awareness PDF of GK Today/AC/BA/ and/or Learning space videos. Mostly Banking awareness questions would be banking related news in last 3-4 months which will be covered in Current affairs preparation itself. Keep an eye on facts and figures as they are imperative.
5. Descriptive-
Daily reading habit will create fodder for essay topics if it is related to current affairs or at least improve your grammar skills which is an absolute must to score well in descriptive. Letter writing format should be mugged up before the exam. You can practice few essays/Letters as per your convenience.
Mock Tests-
I would recommend OB and/or PM. These mocks will keep track of your progress and shall be taken from at least 10 days prior to exam day.
some tips to those giving first time ibps po/or need some tips, others can ignore. i have cleared ibps po5(alloted vijaya bank ,didnot join) and ibps po 6 (got central bank of india, will get joining).
For Prelims: in ibps po 5 i scored 57(cutoff was around 37+), in ibps po 6 i got 49(cutoff was 47+).
For Mains: in ibps po 5 i scored 95(cutoff was 76). and in ibps po 6 i scored 70.5 ( cutoff was 52.5)
U need to note somethings from above:
a. u have to score at least cutoff+15 in mains to get shortlisted.
b. Prelims and mains are different ballgame altogether. you see in ibps po 6 in prelims i scored only 2 marks above cutoff. there were many who scored even 50+,also 60+ in prelims. so going by that i would not have cleared mains as there were many people more talented than me. but i cleared. So have strong faith in yourself and your strategy.
Quantitative Aptitude - dont start anything new. if your strength is word problems then first analyse how many u can attempt in word problems(like time distance, partnership) it is sure not all topics in word problem is your strength. Rest cover up by solving DI. in DI you will face now two graphs and two tables problem. Also there will be DI for missing table. make sure u have practised those kinds at least once in mocks.
English: there will be 2 RCs. attempt easy one. one will be hard and one easy.
u can understand the toughness of RC by reading questions. if questions are like: what inference can be drawn from paragrah2...better avoid those questions.
see in which RC there are more factual questions from passage. rest questions will be similar to prelims with new flavours. dont take more tension about english.
Reasoning: here you will encounter new question types. and those who are not sure on solving puzzles with 3 variables. u better practise these type of question.
CR (Strong and Weak Arguments, Statement-Conclusions/Assumptions, Statement-Inference) -10 questions came in ibps po 6. but there is risk in these questions. u need to take a call if you go after puzzle or these 10 questions.
syllogism and coding decoding new types might be there. that too might save you. Now its not time to solve easy puzzles. take tough ones with 3+ variables from your previous mocks and practise them even if you take 20min to solve them now.
GA: Maximum question will be from last 3-4 months. Schemes by govt. and news related to banks and rbi specific you need to keep eye on. nobel prize one question is sure. banking awareness few questions will be straight fwd from bankrsada capsule or some other website capsule. some banking awareness question will be scenario based. like- if value of rupee depreciates wrt to dollar.a student who has taken education loan and studying in US. do he need to pay more or less installments. hedge funds. contingency liability..and some basics.
in these 20 days devote at least 3hrs daily as this will decide your selection as this will help you clear overall cutoff.
you will have to keep your nerves calm as during exam you will face a situation where you will feel so tensed that what to opt and what not. you will have to take some dynamic decisions in exam hall itself. All the best. Humble request. Please dont comment any thing offensive on this post. You are free to ignore the suggestions above and follow your own. Like PLZZ . :) All the best.
folks actually i cleared sbi po and ibps pre and cgl pre too so i am not going to take mains exam 🙂 but i want to share my strategy to help you as i can see many people here are talking about test series ..one thing keep in mind giving test for mains is just waste of time because u can see ibps is giving very tough paper and unpredictable pattern so plz dont go with test series n all just take a look on every topic like geometry ( 5 question was from geometry in sbi mains) basic concepts of time and distance speed etc. bcz it's sute that di will be based on any of the miscellaneous topics ( u can refer adda..2..4.7 mah...en...dra and merit....shine for di ) then comes most important part ga trust me it's only topic which can save you no matter how good u r in english or math ..and for ga refer AC daily current affairs u have plenty of time 25 days make notes of last 4 months ga 1o days ga per day i had only 15 days and i revised it 3 times and after making notes revise it and then go through adda capsule ..just by followung this u can score above 30 and maybe above 35 in ga then comes reasoning and english reasoning completely depends on your way of thinking u may refer online tutorials and english me to mje bhi kuch ni aata 😜 so just chill if paper is hard for you it is hard for every single person 😉 n last don't loose hope bcz no one knows how's paper will be sb andhare me tir chalayenge kuch din bs unse bachke basic strong kr lena galtiya hui ho post me to kshama kre ☺ any queries?
Plz check my result reg no. 158045357
