Sushma Swaraj inaugurates India Investment meet in Bahrain capital Manama today
i. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj inaugurated the first ever India Investment meet in Bahrain capital Manama today.
ii.  The meeting is aimed at attracting investments from Bahrain and the Gulf region into India and give a boost to bilateral trade and investment relations.
iii. During her stay, she will hold talks with top Bahraini leaders and discuss issues of mutual, regional and international interest.
iv.  This is the first visit to the Gulf region and to Bahrain by the External Affairs Minister, which underlines the importance of the region in view of high stakes India has in terms of its energy security, Indian Diaspora and trade ties.


Chandrakala Padia appointed as first women chairperson of IIAS
i. Chandrakala Padia was appointed as first women chairperson of Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS).
ii. She succeeded the former West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi.
iii. Currently, she is working as Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Ganga Singh University in Bikaner.
iv. She was a visiting associate of IIAS. She was National Fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies in 2003-04.


US Open: Sania Mirza-Bruno Soares win mixed doubles title
i. India's Sania Mirza and her Brazilian teammate Bruno Soares have lifted the Mixed Doubles trophy of the US Open, the fourth and final Grand Slam of the season.
ii. In the title clash Friday night, the top seeded Indo-Brazilian pair defeated the American-Mexican team of Abigail Spears and Santiago Gonzalez, 6-1, 2-6, 11-9. This was Sania's maiden US Open and career's third Mixed Doubles Grand Slam title.

Indo-Nepal joint military exercise Surya Kiran-VII concluded at Pithoragarh
i. Indo-Nepal joint military exercise Surya Kiran-VII concluded at Pithoragarh. The exercise was seventh in the series.
ii. The 14-day exercise was based on to practice counter insurgency, jungle warfare and disaster management under the aegis of the Indian Army's GARUD division. The exercise has also boosted bilateral ties between the two countries.
iii. Surya Kiran aimed to create a greater understanding between the Indian and Nepalese armies and develop expertise in jungle warfare and counter-terrorism operations in mountainous terrains.

i. Axis Bank which is India's third largest private bank has been featured in Forbes Asia's FAB 50 list of 2014. This is the fourth time that Axis Bank has been featured and is amongst the only two banks in this renowned list.


Tony Abbott, the Prime Minister of Australia launched New Colombo Plan
i. Australian Government's New Colombo Plan for India was launched at Mumbai University on 4 September 2014 by Prime Minister of Australia, Tony Abbott. The plan was launched and the MoUs were signed at the time when Australian Prime Minister of Australia Tony Abbott is on a two day visit to India. He was on a two day visit of India from 4 September to 5 September 2014.
ii. The plan was launched to enhance student exchange and collaboration between universities of the two countries. At the event, fourteen memorandums of understanding were signed between the Universities.

Former CJI P Sathasivam appointed as Governor of Kerala
i. Former Chief Justice of India, Palaniswamy Sathasivam was appointed as the new Governor of Kerala. His appointment to the office will come into effect from the date, he will assume the charge of his office.
ii. With this appointment, 65-year-old Sathasivam became the first Chief Justice of India to be appointed to the post of a Governor of a State, which is lower in warrant of precedence to the CJI.
iii. Apart from this, Sathasivam who was the 40th chief justice of India holding office from July 2013 to April 2014 is also the first non-political person to be appointed for a gubernatorial post by the new NDA government.
