IBPS PO IV (2014-2015) Written Exam Results Out

How to prepare for IBPS/ Bank PO interview:

(Engineers and Non-engineers)

Before the Interview:

1. Prepare a good answer for the question "Tell us something about yourself". (select whichever is good about you)

Example 1: My self Akash Asthana, I completed B. Com in 2011 with 68% marks (do not tell the marks if it is not good). My father is a government employee with Electricity department in UP state government. Being a commerce student, I opted to go for banking job.

Example 2 (for Engineers): My name is Ravi and I completed my mechanical engineering from SK University with first division. My father is a teacher in central school. My capability to convince people and my analytical skills make me a suitable person for the banking job.

Next question: why not engineering job.

Answer: Right now, I am focusing on banking jobs. (with a smile; and try to conclude here. Don't argue; don't be aggressive, be calm)

Next Question: If in future you get an engineering job then you will leave the bank job.

Answer: No, I will continue my bank job, because going into a new field will diminish my seniority level and promotion prospects.

2. Prepare few common question from your educational background. For example if you are Commerce graduate then few common things about Balance sheet, you should know. If you are Geography graduate then you should be able to answer common questions related to Geology (for example Longitude, Latitude, Equator, Crops etc.)

3. If you are from engineering background then prepare a good answer for the question "You are an engineer, why do you want to join bank". Answer may be in line with following:

Example 1: (IF you r fresh Engineer) "Curriculum of engineering consists subjects like Industrial management, Industrial Economics, which developed my interest in Banking and Banking jobs."

After this type of answer, be prepared to face questions from Economics. If you can prepare few basic question from economics then it is good. The syllabus of economics in engineering is good enough. Or "how can Industrial management help in banking job" To answer this question you can give example from Manpower management, Training management of the employees, Layout development of a new bank-branch so that it will be convenient for the customers as well as for employees.

Example 2 (if you are Not-working engineer and NON_engineers) " Sir, I am looking for Stability, Growth prospects and Social respects, and Bank job provides me all these"

Example 3 (If you r Working engineer)

"Sir, I am working in a software company in software support and I consider a bank PO job as my career progression not as a career change, as I will be moving to managerial role from technical role. With my previous experience, I can demonstrate leadership capability, Team management, Out of the box thinking in any decision at my level."

(Please read and prepare about these terminology as they may ask further like: what are leadership qualities. what do u mean by "out of the box " thinking etc.)

4. Prepare NEWS related question about your city, Some sports related news in recent past, important news specially related to economy, finance, business, international trade. You will get these news in Business times or a similar news daily.

5. Prepare few questions from banking. (what is a bank, CRR, Repo rate, Reverse repo rate, Besel agreement, Besel 1, 2 and 3). Mug up the exact words for a definition, sometimes interviewers want to listen the exact terminology.

In the interview room:

Be loud and clear. Do not show shaky behavior and do not hesitate in speaking your words. Few people speak in very low volume. Do not bite your lips. While answering to an interviewer, look into his eyes. Moreover, if another interviewer interrupts you, then handle it smartly. Do not think about "other things" while speaking.

Do not give answer in asking mode. Few persons give answer, as if they are asking the interviewer if my answer in correct. Answer like a teacher to make him understand. Not like a student who is afraid if the interviewer will be agree to his answer or not.

Do not be aggressive. Try to finish any argument being submissive with a smile and with such sentences:

"OK Sir; You are right, I will read it thoroughly",

"OK sir , I think I need to read more about it".

It should look like a discussion not like a high school VIVA.

Do not hesitate to tell the truth if you do not know an answer. "Sorry Sir, I have No idea about it".

SMILE is the best thing to end the arguments.

BE POSITIVE. Interviewers try to find a CALM and smart bank employee, who can handle various odd situations with patience.

Thanks

Well, this is a long post. Read it, only if you are an engineer who cleared IBPS PO/MT IV written.

I am a 2012 ECE graduate with ZERO work experience. I am worried about how to justify the 2 year gap.

I cannot get a certificate from an xyz NGO or anywhere else as I didn't mention any work experience in the application. And this would be cheating, which I don't want to do.

What I actually did was:

May 2012- May 2013: Hunt for ECE jobs but failed as our college couldn't provide any campus placement. (It was a jhumri-talayya type engineering college btw)

June 2013- December 2013: Prepared for State Public Service exam and IBPS PO but failed in both

January 2014- July- 2014: Prepared for UPSC and State PSC

August 2014- present: Prepared for Bank exams and qualified RRB and IBPS PO written

So, if I mention honestly the above details, will it do or not? I am very poor at lying and if I lie, they will surely catch my bluff. Any inputs from similar candidates who faced PO3 interview would be very helpful. Thanks!

Friends,

Congratulations to those who have made it to the next phase and to those who could not, I have an incident to share.
A man was in Allahabad for Army SSB. He was conference out. His friend in the batch got recommended. He congratulated him and started moving towards the escort bus. The friend asked him to wait and went into testing hall, came back and handed over a piece of paper. Something was scribed on it: "Perhaps this was not your Destiny but one day you will find one for sure".
I do not think I have anything more to say to those who have failed. Please Go Ahead. Good luck.

To those who have cleared, you have miles to go. There is enough time for the interviews but I have a bitter experience to share. Last year I gave IBPS PO3, I did not prepare for the written exam but I was fortunate to clear. I was still not serious about the job- " Kehte hai na jo cheej aasani se mil jati hai log uski kadra nahi karte". I was very casual about the required documents and thought they will take undertakings as they used to do in previous years.
I gave the interview somehow and the meantime other things which were in pipeline did not work out for me. Now I was desperate for IBPS result, hoping it to positive. The result was announced on April 1, 2014.

Here are the excerpts:

"You are aware that as per the directions contained in the advertisement for recruitment to the post of (Probationary Officers/ Management Trainees for CWE PO/MT-III, it

was specifically provided that the candidate should produce the required certificates at the time of interview failing which they would be debarred from appearing for the

interview. Though you were allowed to appear for the interview without the requisite certificate(s), this was contrary to the notification and you have been barred from

further process of recruitment."

I think you got my point.  Please carefully read the recruitment notification of IBPS, they blindly follow it without using their brains. Arrange the certificates on time, trust me they are not very gracious about it. To help yourself escape the nightmare, do the needful.

Even at the end, perhaps only one-third will survive but even that is not the end for the rest.
The IBPS result came on April 1, 2014 and perhaps the SBI PO 2014 notification came somewhere on April 7,2014.

I applied, prepared, wrote the exam, fortunately cleared and waiting for the final results. Just move on with life.

A Boxer loses the Bout not when he is knocked down but then, when he refuses to stand up and fight again.

Anyways all the best and here goes my IBPS PO3 INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE.

IBPS PO INTERVIEW PART1

I had my interview on 4th January, 2014. It was a day full of drama.

Interview center- Arya hotel, Ranchi

Reporting time- 1 pm

The process was conducted by the joint efforts of IBPS and BOI.

My profile- engineering graduate in Electrical and electronics, 2012 july pass out and of course at present, jobless.

I left from Bokaro Steel City by train and reached Ranchi railway station at around 10am. After having my breakfast I started getting out the station , thereafter what I noticed was bigger disaster than "Modi being PM". Just below my trouser's Zip ,the stitches got undone and I could see a small but haunting window. My Van Heusen Pant has betrayed me big time but I had been dragging it relentlessly for almost 2 years. I immediately got inside the station and started checking it by sitting on chair that whether it was noticeable. It was not completely visible unless somebody notices with great curiosity. Even then, it was affecting my confidence and I am not sure whether the saying goes right with this 'Chor ki dhadhi me tinka'. I had a towel in my bag. I came out and started searching for a tailor. With lot of enquiries I found a tailor that too in the open with his sewing machine standing against the railings doing something in his mobile. I pleaded " bhaiya (directing towards the tragedy)isko sill do ge kya ,bahot important interview hai." He looked at me once and again got busy in his mobile and you know what he said,"hum pehne hue kapde nahi silte" as if he is saying " hum feke hue paise aj bhi nahi uthate". I requested but all in vain . I somehow made up mind that I will go with the same .Later the problem was solved when I wore my tie at the hotel and while sitting it used to cover that portion. Thank God. Moving ahead, we were taken inside hotel at around 1pm and was forwarded to long certificates scrutiny process it was worse than getting clearances in customs. There were four panels for verifications and interview. There were maximum 25 candidates in each panel. I enquired one of the officials, there were interviewing 200 candidates daily that means overall approx 1800 candidates in Jharkhand between 2th jan to 10th jan. Anyway the verification process was quite slow specially in my panel but they were simultaneously sending for the interviews . My number came at around 4pm I was the first one to be stopped for OBC certificate creamy layer dated before 31st april 2013. I was sent to cool my heels and said board of director will decide your fate. At around 5pm the panelist called me and said you are not allowed to attend interview but for you convenience you can meet the control officer in the below floor. There were five others like me, one of them didn't have obc certificate others had problem similar to me. The control officer consoled us but said that he could do nothing as there were strict instructions from the chairman of IBPS. After lot of pleading he gave a contact number of senior official, he picked my phone after lot of trials but denied talking to students and disconnected similar to the Manmohan government who are in power for 10years but deny talking to their own citizens who have elected them. Two of us had tears in their eyes specially the girl. I have seen many rejections but I was also feeling bad because it is different when you attend interview and get rejection at least you have that satisfaction that you tried your best. It is really unfortunate. But we did not lose hope and asked the control officer that we want to talk to the highest authority there. He asked us to wait for the Zonal officer to come. He came around 5.45pm. We discussed the issue with him logically about taking undertakings. And finally we were allowed. And as per my knowledge the guy who did not have the OBC certificate was not allowed.

IBPS PO PART2

Just five minutes earlier I got to know that I was eligible to be interviewed. I gathered my thoughts, tried to forget what has happened in the day and completely started concentrating on the interview. Finally at 6:30pm I was the second last candidate in my panel to enter into the interviewing room. The room was quite small in contrast to my expectations. The chair for the candidate was quite closer to the interviewers table, approx one hand distance. There were four gentlemen sitting in the room all formally and courteously dressed. All were in there 50's and looked completely exhausted. Extreme right- Hansmukh lal( HL) Extreme left- Manmohan (MM) In between L1- ramchandra guha k chacha(RGC) L2- jani dushman(JD) I asked their permission and entered the room. I made proper eye contacts and wished them. They asked me to have my seat. I made myself comfortable by using the depth of the chair, backbone in line with the chair, shoulders straight and hands on the thighs.

JD : tab Avinash sahab kahan laga di itni der (I was supposed to be interviewed earlier) Me: sir there was some problem with the OBC certificate. 10mins earlier I got to know that I was eligible for interview.

JD: koi bat nahi ab to sab thik hai na.(he was interacting in hindi) ME: yes sir

MM: to interview shuru karein

Me: sure sir

JD: jaldi se apne bare me bta do.

Me: I talked about my family background, education background, achievements and hobbies. And finally I said I am determined to become a banking officer.

JD: have you heard about financial inclusion, btao jara

Me: I defined it.

JD: what does inclusion mean?

Me: to involve everybody.

MM asked something in between but I could not understand the question. May be he was asking about the various govt polices for financial inclusion. It did not click me and I said sorry. I should have talked about the bancassurance, new banking regulation etc.

JD: you have done engineering, you wasted so much of government money now you want to join bank, and how does your degree will help bank. Complete waste?? (though his questions sound offensive but the way he asked was not rude ,in fact there was a slight smile on his face) Thanx to mrunal sir as he made us aware about these types of onslaught. HL sir was smiling all the way as if he is saying 'ab btao'

Me: (very calmly) I respect your views sir. On the first place I could not develop that interest in my course so that I can pursue a career in that and it was better to become a good banking officer than to become a bad engineer. As far as my wastage of degree is concerned, it was not a waste. It gave me rational thinking and it can be used in the bank such as sanctioning loans.

JD: kahe ka sochna, microfinancing me to loan dena hi padta hai

Me : (I had no idea about micrfinancing)sir aur bhi kai chijen hain. My degree has improved my analytical abilities, decision making and leadership qualities as I have done seminars and projects. And I believe banking service is just not about being good in finance, accounts or commerce.

JD: log to yahan aake badi badi baten karte hain fir chod k chale jate hain

Me: Your doubt is valid sir. I can not speak for others may be their priorities were difffernt but I will tell why I want to join the services. (Then I mentioned 'sales pitch').it is not only a growing sector but plays a very important role in the economy.apart from being a secured job with good imoluments it has lot of respect in the society because people repose a lot of trust in us as they invest in us .It has also a good career growth. Tab tak RGC baba jag gaye.

RGC: acha thik hai history to padhi hi hogi. Battle of Plassey kab hui thi aur kab hui thi

Me: sorry sir

RGC: padha to hoga

Me: sir padha hai par yad nahi

RGC: koi bat nahi, kalinga yudh k bare me suna hai

Me: sir Ashok ne vahan k logon ko haraya tha

RGC: kisko, sanghmitra ka naam suna hai

Me: ek train ka naam hai iske alawa nahi pata

RGC: Jharkhand ki nadiyon ka naam btao

Me: Damodar RGC: iska udgam kahan hota hai aur visargan kahan hota hai

Me: sir shayad ganga me girti hai

RGC: pehle udgam to btao

Me: maaf kijiye ga sir

RGC: sab kuch pata ho aisa jaruri to nahi Few more history questions were asked but for most of them I said "I am sorry sir". Then they finally told me to go. Even though few questions were aggressive but it was asked in very humble way. Manmohan sir in most of the interview remained silent. ML sir kept smiling through out. JN sir was aggressive but not rude. I believe I donot have to justify Mr. RGC sir. Any ways overall the panel was humble. And again it was a nice experience. Thank you and all the best.

When will they activate the link to download the application form?? Arghhh!!!! 😞

Puys, the notification says that the date of passing will be the one appearing on the marksheet or provisional certificate. While filling the application form, I mentioned the date on my final degree certificate, not the provisional one. Will that be a problem? These nuances of document verification are giving me nightmares.

😢😞😭

Is there any forum where i can find out previous years PI experience? Pls Share the link.

PLZ HELP

I have a query related to mark sheet of IGNOU, i don't have year wise mark sheet but one consolidated marksheet and i heard last year they didn't let students take interview due to mark sheet issue. plz help me, if u know something related to it. and what can be the alternative solution for it. i mailed ibps but no reply

Tnsn badhne laga hai yaro....Did they activated previous year...ny1 remeber?????

I am currently working in a software company and i have mention 1 year experience in the application form. What certificates can we show to prove the same? What exactly do they mean by experience certificate?

Can anyone please explain?

@shingue

Thanks a lot for your huge collection of study materials.  Also, could you please shed some light on the salary structure of a bank PO? Is the salary same for all banks? Apart from salary what are the other benefits (like lease accommodation, petrol reimbursements etc.) a bank PO can get? I have heard that a bank PO gets only 27 K in hand and if that's true then when will the pay revision which is still pending be implemented? Lastly, what will be his/her designation after the completion of the probation period - Branch manager or something like that?

Friends..i hav only provisional degree ..i got my provisional degree in june 2013 and i am a 2013 btech passout...now when i went to univ..regarding original degree they told me u will get ur original degree at the time of convocation ..and they r not sure about the convocation date...provisonal chal jayegi na ?

Copied from another thread 😐

Now let me come to the part where most will be interested in:

Today is Saturday, half working day in banks, right? Well I entered my room at 8 PM. Life as a PO is HELL (or at least mine has been). I will take the above points and compare MY EXPERIENCE in IT and PO.

Time: As a PO, you will start your work as scheduled but there is no time to stop/end your work. I am sure that may also be the case with most IT professionals but I had fixed working hours 2PM to 9:15PM with breaks involved in between. You have no lunch hour in a bank (in Gujarat at least) and the day can end any time between 6:00PM to 9:00PM (Ya! 10:30-11:00 hour working day is possible)

Work Environment: In IT, you will have a cabin shared by 3 others (in most cases) with carpet floor, AC cabins, peaceful work environment, hygienic and you will like it. Your PC in front of you, earphones plugged in your smart phone and that connected with your charger. In the bank, your phone will still be connected to the charger but you won't be listening to anything other than noise. Branches are terrible (except for metros and other big cities). As far as ergonomics go, banks suck. In an IT firm, you will have a cafeteria and a fixed time for lunch but in case of PO stationed in a branch (not in a big city), there is no "lunch-time" or provision for food. So things are bad.

Salary: My CTC at Tech M was 3.85lpa so I got 29500 in hand every month (after all deductions). CTC in the bank (as told by the HR) is 5.56 lpa but my in-hand salary is 25000-26500 every month. If I include the rent and petrol (which I don't avail at the moment), the monthly compensation will round off to 33K-34K. The overall salary structure is: 14500 (basic) + 14500 (DA) + 160 (newspaper) + 450 (entertainment) + 500 (Mobile) + 30lt petrol (bill based) + 3850 (Rent) - 200 professional tax - 100 (education cess) - 2500 (PF) - 400 (misc). Both salaries are barely enough to support one person but not a life partner. In IT, you can increase radically by switching but there is no such option in banks.

Risk Factor: In IT, you are dealing with software and if something goes wrong today it can be fixed tomorrow. In banks, nothing can be left for tomorrow. Everything needs to be completed the same day and there can be NO mistakes. Any discrepancy and the officer (you) have to pay for it from your wallet. And I am not talking about 100-1000 range, the amount can be as small as Rs 10 and can be as big as 10 lakh, it will be taken from you. People have lost jobs, quit in the middle of their career because of such policies. If you give a person wrong medicine, he won't be angry, give him Rs 10 less and he will be ready to kill you (in Gujarat at least)

Leaves: Being a sarkari naukri, banks should win hands down in this department right? WRONG; IT wins this round too. You have 5 working days in IT, in banks its 6 days. In IT you take 2 days leave and you can go home easily. In banks even if you manage to secure that leave you won't be getting much time at home. Leaves are credited to your account on 1st January in banks for the entire year, although it may sound good but the catch is for those of you joining in April-May, you won't have a single leave in your account till 1st Jan next year. Even after that, if you get posted in small branches (2-4 officers) securing leave will always be a problem.

Respect/Decency: In IT, no matter how bad a person is, he/she HAS to BEHAVE (in south at least, I've heard things get out of hand in NCR area). Talks will be done in a decent tone and in a dignified way. People know how to talk and communicate. In banks, the customers will thrash you, your bosses will verbal-rape you in front of the entire staff (have seen this happening to my BM). No decency in language and no respect from anyone. People will treat you like absolute garbage because you have no powers and because the nationalised banks have gone down the "Customer is God" lane, you are the absolute scumbag out there. Any complaint lodged will not be closed till the customer gives in writing that he was satisfied by the action taken.

Transfers: Will be random and it can be anywhere in the country. Female candidates will always get preference and we will be hacked every single time.

Job Security Vs Satisfaction: Yes, there is no one that can take away this job from you but in the end, I tend to ask myself one simple question "Is this how I wanted my life to be?" And I get a big NO as the answer.

Things are so bad here that I am practically depressed 24X7 and have thought about suicide many times (yes suicide!!). I used to be a good person with logical thinking and a good personality and I studied hard just as I worked hard. I deserved better.

I am from ECE background and already have worked for 3.5 years in the IT sector, but left the job last year for a decent and secure govt. job for a good pay scale and better social life. I was already preparing for the State Civil Service for the last 6 months and cleared the Preli and now preparing for the mains exam. But now I am stuck in a big dilemma. I sat for the RRB Assistant, PO exams this year and cleared both. I have quite good score in the RRB Assistant. And after reading and hearing all the canards/rumors/anecdotes/TRUTHS about the PO job, its low pay package compared to the work load it offers to us I am vacillating between joining the RRB as an assistant (with low pay scale but enough free time to concentrate on study ) and PO (toilsome, hectic work life with heavy bond amount and very little time for study). I don't want to taste any more of the water or loiter around....I want a decent, tranquil, respectful job with good salary....@ all experienced seniors...please help!!!what should I do??? 😞

friends i am a 2013 passed out ...In application form i have entered may 2013 as date of passing instead of june 2013 ....plz someone suggest me a solution..:(
