GMAT Sentence Correction Discussions

I would go with 5,

Reasons: "Trenches" goes with "have yielded", leaves us with 1,3,5

"Evidence For" is incorrect in 1 (it should have been "Evidence Of")
"Arose Simultaneously" gives a parallel structure, rather than "Arising Simultaneously"
Thus 5.

I dont know about the reasons for the "Simultaneously with" doubt, anyone care to share some thoughts on that?
At least in this case, it does seem to fit in without causing any trouble.

Please help me out with this one and explain.Specially the words "simultaneously WITH".Should this "with" come together with simultaneously?

Thankful

The first trenches cut into a 500-acre site at Tell Hamoukar, Syria, have yielded strong evidence for centrally
administered complex societies in northern regions of the Middle East that were arising simultaneously with but
independently of the more celebrated city-states of southern Mesopotamia, in what is now southern Iraq.

I will go with 5 as well..not so much because of parallel structure as much as because of the essential use of "simultaneously with".

Consider "but independently of" as an extension, which it is, read it as "simultaneously with the more celebrated city states bla bla" makes sense.

B is it ????
B is absolutely correct, though A looks very tempting because of our tendency to make 'tired' parallel with 'wanted'.

The thing is that 'tired' is used as as a past participle (adjective) to describe the state of the noun 'team' whereas 'wanted' is used as a verb. There is no way a participle and a verb can be parallel

'Wanting' is used as a present participle (adjective) and again describes the state of the noun 'team. A participle can be parallel with another participle, hence B is the answer.

My Take: D

Explanation:
'their scheduled day' is better at the beginning of the correct answer, so only C,D choices remain, we cannot ignore E
Between C and D, i think D is a much better construction
Between D & E, E gives a different meaning to the sentence.

That is why D.

Please provide source and OA.

Even i thought of D but the OA is E...
Source is 1000 SCfile

I would still like to go with D because I simply do not trust the source where you got this from.
Ideally, nobody should be using these files, since these were initially complied by scoretop and have got themselves and their users into a lot of problems. OG and a host of other material is readily available, why do you need the 1000SC??(Anyways, that is none of my business !!)

Anyone care to throw some light on this one?
