1). either from ........or from ......
OR
2). from either ... or ........
ARE CORRECT..
But what about if the parallel indicator is AND , OR , BUT ???
Is the following correct ? :
I called you on your landline and on your mobile.
OR
I called you on your landline and mobile. ( if ' on your ' is wordy )
Thanks.........
(A) Traveling the back roads of Hungary, in 1905 Bla Bartk and Zoltn Kodly began their pioneering work in ethnomusicology, and they were armed only
(B) In 1905, Bla Bartk and Zoltn Kodly, traveling the back roads of Hungary, began their pioneering work in ethnomusicology, and they were only armed
(C) In 1905 Bla Bartk and Zoltn Kodly began their pioneering work in ethnomusicology, traveling the back roads of Hungary armed only
(D) Having traveled the back roads of Hungary, in 1905 Bla Bartk and Zoltn Kodly began their pioneering work in ethnomusicology; they were only armed
(E) Bla Bartk and Zoltn Kodly, in 1905 began their pioneering work in ethnomusicology, traveling the back roads of Hungary, arming themselves only
I chose the answer as (B) but the OA says its (C). Can someone explain the reason?
1. Traveling the back roads of Hungary, in 1905 Bla Bartk and Zoltn Kodly began their pioneering work in ethnomusicology, and they were armed only with an Edison phonograph and insatiable curiosity.
(C) In 1905 Bla Bartk and Zoltn Kodly began their pioneering work in ethnomusicology, traveling the back roads of Hungary armed only
Even I learnt something new with this SC
Convert this to the question, How they began their pioneering work & the answer lies in the second clause which classifies the first one.

OK first let me give you two sentences:
On the first day of class, I headed for college, and I was only armed with a single notebook.
On the first day of class I headed for college, armed only with a single notebook.
The latter one is better as the first one seems to be connecting two entirely separate things which happen to be happening together, while the latter makes it clear that the 'notebook' phrase is connected to the earlier one. This in itself would be a reason for me to take (C) over (B)
One more issue also exists; if I say:
In 1905, Bla Bartk and Zoltn Kodly, traveling the back roads of Hungary, began their pioneering work in ethnomusicology,
I would rather structure it as
In 1905, Bla Bartk and Zoltn Kodly began their pioneering work in ethnomusicology, traveling the back roads of Hungary,
because what I need to imply is that they started their work in that year, not their travels!
Hope this helps!

Thanks,
Bishoo123 and scrabbler.....your explanations are convincing:)
Sachin,
I think it should be:
I called you on your landline and your mobile.
(A) which is more than had been sighted
(B) more than had been sighted
(C) more than they had sighted
(D) more than had reported sightings
(E) which is more than had reported sightings
1. Since the movie was released seventeen UFOs have been sighted in the state, which is more than had been sighted in the past ten years together.
(A) which is more than had been sighted
(B) more than had been sighted
(C) more than they had sighted
(D) more than had reported sightings
(E) which is more than had reported sightings
I go for (B), watz the OA ?

I'll go with B. In option A & E Usage of which is wrong as it modifies state rather than sighted. In option their is no referent of they. In option D change of meaning and awkward.
IMO (B).....The same reasons as stated above.
OA is B...

Please post the explanation as well
Over 75 % of the energy produced in France derives from nuclear power, while in Germany it is just over 33%
a.
b. compared to Germany, which uses just over 3%
c. whereas nuclear power accounts for just over 33% of the energy produced in Germany
d. whereas just over 33% of the energy comes from nuclear power in Germany
e. compared with the energy from nuclear power in Germany, where it is just over 33%

My Take is C. 1. A..it can refer back to nuclear power as well as energy. 2. nuclear power is compared to germany. 3. Right. 4. Change of meaning. Moreover the comparison is between energy produced. So option C is more precise. 5. it refers back to Germany. So wrong.

My Answer : C
(a) confusing antecedent for "it"
(b) comparison is between %age of energy coming from nuclear power for france and germany. Germany is compared with the %age of energy coming out of nuclear power in france.
(c) correct according to me
(d) It is not clear that "the energy" is the energy usage inside Germany or somewhere else.
(e) too wordy

I doubt if C is the answer, because the two clauses then argue in different directions ---->(i) First clause referring energy as the main subject of discussion.(ii)Second clause mentioning something about nuclear power rather than energy.

Agreed... But here we are getting confused with the parallelism offered by Choice D. Choice D is no doubt parallel but incorrect for the reason mentioned in the post above .
Thus the best choice out of the available is C.
Hope it helps!!!
The answer is c
