hi puys ,please find below some sc .i got most of them wrong. Will request to post explanations also.
1. a peculiar feature of the embryonic mammalian circulatory system is that in the area of the heart the cells adhere to one another, beating in unison and adopting specialized orientations exclusive of one another.
(a) beating in unison and adopting
(b) they beat in unison while adopting
(c) beat in unison, and adopt
(d) beating in unison yet adopting
(e) even though they beat in unison and adopt
it talks about two actions, one in unison and the other in exclusion, hence we are looking for an option that says 'yet' or 'however', 'though' etc to describe the two actions. So I selected d.
2. a patient accusing a doctor of malpractice will find it difficult to prove damage if there is a lack of some other doctor to testify about proper medical procedures.
(a) if there is a lack of some other doctor to testify
'some other doctor' sounds too wordy
(b) unless there will be another doctor to testify
'will be' should be used only for a future actions, this is not necesary here. Could have been 'is'.
(c) without another doctors testimony
looks good-hold it (nice and short)
(d) should there be no testimony from some other doctor
same as in a
(e) lacking another doctor to testify
'to testify' is not correct

Hence I selected option c
3. a number of linguists contend that all of the thousands of languages spoken by the worlds five billion people can be traced back to a common root language.
(a) that all of the thousands of languages spoken by the worlds five billion people can be traced
looks good - hold it
(b) that the worlds five billion people speak thousands of languages of which all can be traced
i dont know but i could not make sense of this statement
(c) the worlds five billion people speak thousands of languages which are all traceable
should start with languages not people, the linguists are contending on languages not people
(d) all of the thousands of languages spoken by the worlds five billion people to be traceable
'to be tracable' is not good, 'can be traced is muich better'
(e) the ability to trace all of the thousands of languages that are spoken by the worlds five billion people
'ability' is not even talked about in the original sentence.

Hence I selected a
4. a majority of the international journalists surveyed view nuclear power stations as unsafe at present but that they will, or could, be made sufficiently safe in the future.
(a) that they will, or could,
(b) that they would, or could,
(c) they will be or could
(d) think that they will be or could
(e) think the power stations would or could
This was fairly straight forward. We need an option to say , 'the journalists think' or 'the jouranlists said'. Basically an action from the journalists. Only options d and e have that choice. In E power stations is redundant as it is obvious they refers to the power stations

Vikas, C is not correct cos you need an action, which is shown by 'think', just my opinion.

1. Developing nations in various parts of the world have amassed $700 billion in debts; at stake, should a significant number of these debts be repudiated, is the solvency of some of the worlds largest multinational banks.
(A) should a significant number of these debts be repudiated, is
(B) should a significant number of these debts be repudiated, are
(C) should they repudiate a significant number of these debts, are
(D) if there is a repudiation of a significant number of these debts, would be
(E) if a significant number of these debts will be repudiated, is

'Solvency of some of the banks' is singular, so it'll require a singular verb.

A: Passive 'should X be repudiated' otherwise subject-verb agree. (Solvency is at stake)
B: Plural 'are' wrong.
C: Plural 'are' wrong.
D: 'rupidiation of' is wordy, but not wrong.
E: Wrong sequence of events. Correct usage is 'If X happens, Y will happen'. But here it's 'If X will happen, Y'

So my take is A.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. For many people, household labor remains demanding even if able to afford household appliances their grandparents would find a miracle.
(A) even if able to afford household appliances their grandparents would find a miracle
(B) despite being able to afford household appliances their grandparents would find a miracle
(C) even if they can afford household appliances their grandparents would have found miraculous
(D) although they could afford household appliances their grandparents would find
miraculous
(E) even if they are able to afford household appliances which would have been a miracle to their grandparents

A: doesn't make any sense. (to me atleast)
B: no clear refferant for 'being able to afford'. 'would find a miracle' is wrong.
C: Looks good. first part conveys their ability to afford these appliances. second part talks about opinion of past generation in present context.
D: There's no contrast here (Same idea is not being contrasted). so 'although' may not be right conjunction and 'would find' suggests uncertainty about present action.
E: Wordy. too many unncessary phrases.

So I'll choose C.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Many investors base their choice between bonds and stocks on comparing bond yields to the dividends available on common stocks.
(A) between bonds and stocks on comparing bond yields to
(B) among bonds and stocks on comparisons of bond yields to
(C) between bonds and stocks on comparisons of bond yields with
(D) among bonds and stocks on comparing bond yields and
(E) between bonds and stocks on comparing bond yields with

Clear case of idomatic usage. 'Compare X with Y' or 'Compare X to Y'

I'll just paste some lines from Spidey's notes to help explain this.

Compare usually takes the preposition to when it refers to. the activity of describing the resemblances between unlike things:

He compared her to a summer day.

Scientists sometimes compare the human brain to a computer.

Compare takes with when it refers to the act of examining two like things in order to discern their similarities or differences:

e.g.
The police compared the forged signature with the original.
The committee will have to compare the Senate's version of the bill with the version that was passed by the House.

When compare is used to mean to liken (one) with another, with is traditionally held to be the correct
preposition: That little bauble is not to be compared with (not to) this enormous jewel. But to is frequently used in this context and is not incorrect.

Rule 1: Compare to compares unlike things, whereas compare with compares like things.
Rule 2: Compare to is used to stress the resemblance. Compare with can be used to show either

similarity or difference but is usually used to stress the difference.
There is a difference between compare to and compare with; the first is to liken one thing to another; the second is to note the resemblances and differences between two things.

So In this case I think E suits better. Yields and divideds are like things; they convey same idea.

My answers are

1. B - 'a number of' is plural so 'are'. 'the number of' is singular.
2. C - Even though fits the bills. It brings the right contrast
3. E - We should between and the correct idiom is 'Compare with'
1. Developing nations in various parts of the world have amassed $700 billion in debts; at stake, should a significant number of these debts be repudiated, is the solvency of some of the worlds largest multinational banks.
(a) should a significant number of these debts be repudiated, is
looks the best
(b) should a significant number of these debts be repudiated, are
are is incorrect
(c) should they repudiate a significant number of these debts, are

'should' is a better word here than 'if'

same as d

(a) even if able to afford household appliances their grandparents would find a miracle
missing 'they'

'would find a miracle' looks bad.
(c) even if they can afford household appliances their grandparents would have found miraculous
looks the best
(d) although they could afford household appliances their grandparents would find
miraculous
could is not correct
(e) even if they are able to afford household appliances which would have been a miracle to their grandparents
probably correct but too wordy

3. many investors base their choice between bonds and stocks on comparing bond yields to the dividends available on common stocks.
(a) between bonds and stocks on comparing bond yields to
(b) among bonds and stocks on comparisons of bond yields to
(c) between bonds and stocks on comparisons of bond yields with
(d) among bonds and stocks on comparing bond yields and
(e) between bonds and stocks on comparing bond yields with
it has to be between. So c looks best

Puys,

I need help for the following questions:

For some birds the sense of smell appears to play a role in navigation, since pigeons with surgically removed olfactory nerves were found to have increased difficulties in homing.
(A) were found to have increased difficulties
(B) have been found to have increased difficulty
(C) were found to have increasing difficulty
(D) had been found to have increased difficulties
(E) have been found to have increasing difficulties
E looks best.

Found throughout Central and South America, sloths hang from trees by long rubbery limbs and sleep fifteen hours a day, moving infrequently enough that two species of algae grow on its coat and between its toes.

(A) sloths hang from trees by long rubbery limbs and sleep fifteen hours a day, moving infrequently enough
(B) sloths hang from trees by long rubbery limbs, they sleep fifteen hours a day, and with such infrequent movements
(C) sloths use their long rubbery limbs to hang from trees, sleep fifteen hours a day, and move so infrequently
(D) the sloth hangs from trees by its long rubbery limbs, sleeping fifteen hours a day and moving so infrequently
(E) the sloth hangs from trees by its long rubbery limbs, sleeps fifteen hours a day, and it moves infrequently enough

Has to be 'the sloth', hence D is best

For many travelers, charter vacations often turn out to cost considerably more than they originally seemed.
(A) they originally seemed
(B) they originally seem to
(C) they seemingly would cost originally
(D) it seemed originally
(E) it originally seemed they would
B looks best

So it is
1.E
2. D
3. B
