A certain manufacturer of cake , muffin and bread mixes has 100 buyers, of whom 50 purchases cake mix , 40 purchases muffin mix and 20 purchases both cake mix & muffin mix.If a buyer is to be selected at random from the 100 buyers, what is the probability that the buyer selected will be one who purchases neither cake mix nor muffin mix? a) 1/10 b) 3/10 c) 1/2 d) 7/10 e) 9/10
Can you explain bit more on this explaination. I am unable to understand it.

I think there are 2 answers to this question . As we know for calculating the no. of factors of a no. we multiply the (powers Of prime factors+1). Choice 1 is 22. which can be possible to get if we assume K= X(power)7 Choice 2 is 27. Not possible, to get 27 we need to have 9*3 which is not possible by taking any no. of prime factors of K. Choice 3 is 40. Not possible, to get 40 we require 8*5, we cannot get 5 as multiplying factor. Choice 4 is 64: which is possible if we consider K= XYZ.. Please correct me if I am wrong..
Person can wear any number of rings in one finger. So, we have to decide answer using rings:-
4*4*4*4*4 should be the correct answer..
--> for 1st finger, one can select from 5 rings for 2nd finger, one can select from 4 rings for 3rd finger, one can select from 3 rings for 4th finger, one can select from 2 rings
If the square root of the product of three distinct positive integers is equal to the largest of the three numbers, what is the product of the two smaller numbers? (1) The largest number is 12. (2) The average (arithmetic mean) of the three numbers is 20/3
The price of a microchip declines by 66% every 6 months. At this rate, approximately how many years will it take for the price of an $81 microchip to reach $1 per chip? A) 1.5 years B) 2 years C) 2.5 years D) 13 years E) 13.5 years this one's simple.. but it'd be nice if someone can come up with a simpler/faster way to solve this!!
Note: See chart in attachment! The chart lists the sales per month from Jan to June. Which month showed the greatest percentage increase in sales from the prior month?

Ans (A) sq. root of a*b*c = c , then a*b = c (1) sufficient (2) a+b+ab = 20 ==> by hit and trial, only one soln. a=5, b=2, ab = 10 so, sufficient.. hence, answer D
Ans (B) Final Price = Initial Price * ( 1 - declining %age )^n where n = number of years (In this case, n = 2n because rate is for 6 months or we can say depreciation is 2 times a year)
So, 1 = 81 * (1-66/100)^2n => 1 = 81 * (1/3)^2n => 1 = 81 * (1/9)^n => n = 2 years

1.If y 3 and x is a prime integer greater than 2, which of the following must be true? i) x = y ii) y = 1 iii). x and y are prime integers. (A) None (B) i only (C) ii only (D) iii only (E) i and iii
2.A certain basketball team that has played 2/3 of its games has a record of 17 wins and 3 losses. What is the greatest number of the remaining games that the team can lose and still win at least of all of its games? (A) 7 (B) 6 (C) 5 (D) 4 (E) 3
IMO 1 = A, as Y is all except 3 and X is limited to positive primes
2 = A, as "its games" gives me some clue... 2/3rd of its games and won 17.. and 2/3rd of total "its games" is 17+3 = 20. Hence, all "its games" are 30.
At least of "all of its games" appears to be 20.. It already has 17 wins... 3 more can take him to his dream score of 20..
Hence, out of the remaining 10, he has the leverage of losing 7 more games..

Nipun,
Let me try to make it simple for you to understand. For any number K, the no. of factors(including 1 ) can be calculated by Multiplying the (powers+1) of its prime factors. Suppose K= X^a*Y^b Than no. of factors of K=(a+1)(b+1). Using this logic and taking each option one by one you can eliminate the choices. Since K have 8 factors in total. K can have following values. a) K= x^7 , b) K= x^3*y^1, c) K=x*y*z now taking these 3 cases we will eliminate the choices. Option 1 is 22. Let us consider K= x^7 , than K^3= x^21..total no. of factors of K=(21+1)=22. Option 2 is 27. Considering K=x^3*y^1 we get K^3= x^9*y*3 no. of factors=(9+1)*(3+1)=40( which is 3rd choice). Considering K=x*y*z we get K^3=x^3*y^3*z^3,no. of factors =(3+1)*(3+1)*(3+1)=64 (which is 4 th choice) As a result in no way we can get 27 as factors of K^3..Answer is 27.. Deepak can you please confirm it .

Lets suppose 3 no.s are x,y,z. From condition given, we have (x*y*z)^1/2=largest of the three no.s From 1) we get product of smallest two no.s=12 ..SUFF. From 2) average is 20/3 means sum of three no.s is 20 , x+y+z=20, let us suppose from the condition given x*y*z=z^2 considering z as largest of 3 no.s. We get x*y=z Now x+y+z=20 & x*y=z , We get x+y+xy=20. Since from the conditions given x,y,z are distinct positive integers. We can clearly see that x or y=6 & x or y =2 so this condition is also sufficient Answer is D. OA Please

Hey Nipun, How do you prove 5 + 2 +10 = 20...???
My answer would be (A)

66% reduction means it is getting reduced by 2/3 which means it is worth only 1/3 after every 6 months.So,
If the square root of the product of three distinct positive integers is equal to the largest of the three numbers, what is the product of the two smaller numbers? (1) The largest number is 12. (2) The average (arithmetic mean) of the three numbers is 20/3
Main condition for the above q is product of smaller nos must be equal to the largest no.
statement 1 : suff as it directly gives the ans
statement 2 : suff.only one combination possible . (12,6,2)
Puys, Can you help me with this one.. Six mobsters have arrived at the theater for the premiere of thefilm Goodbuddies. One of the mobsters, Frankie, is an informer, and he's afraid that another member of his crew, Joey, is on to him. Frankie, wanting to keep Joey in his sights, insists upon standing behind Joey in line at the concession stand, though not necessarily right behind him. How many ways can the six arrange themselves in line such that Frankies requirement is satisfied? A. 6 B. 24 C. 120 D. 360 E. 720 Thanks in advance.
