GMAT Critical Reasoning Discussions

hi am 2 weeks away from my GMAT exam and am facing some serious issues with CR. need help on how could better my concepts (have used powerscore and OGs so far)- inputs on course material/ websites/ videos etc. also, any tips on how could i structure my studies so as to optimize the time i have left.

my CR performance has been dismal in the last couple of days and this has majorly shattered my confidence.

Please help me with this CR question

Guidebook writer: I have visited hotelsthroughout the

country and have noticed that in those built before

1930 the quality of the original carpentry work is

generally superior to that in hotels built afterward.

Clearly carpenters working on hotels before 1930

typically worked with more skill, care, and effort than

carpenters who have worked on hotels built

subsequently.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens

the guidebook writer's argument?

(A) The quality of original carpentry in hotels is

generally far superior to the quality of original

carpentry in other structures, such as houses

and stores.

(B) Hotels built since 1930 can generally

accommodate more guests than those built

before 1930.

(0 The materials available to carpenters working

before 1930 were not significantly different in

quality from the materials available to

carpenters working after 1930.

(D) The better the quality oforiginal carpentry in a

building, the less likely that building is to fall into

disuse and be demolished.

(E) The average length of apprenticeship for

carpenters has declined significantly since 1930.

Although the discount stores in Goreville's central

shoppingdistrictare expected to close within five

years as a result of competition from a SpendLess

discount department store that just opened, those

locations will not stay vacant for long. In the five years

since the opening of Colson's, a nondiscount

department store, a new store has opened at the

location of every store in the shopping district that

closed because it could not compete with Colson's.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens

the argument?

Many customers of Colson's are expected to do

less shopping there than they did before the

SpendLess store opened.

(B) Increasingly, the stores that have opened in the

central shopping district since Colson's opened

have been discount stores.

(C) At present, the central shopping district has as

many stores operating in it as it ever had.

(D) Over the course of the next five years, it is

expected that Goreville's population will grow at

a faster rate than it has for the past several

decades.

(E) Many stores in the central shopping district sell

types of merchandise that are not available at

either SpendLess or Colson's.

Hello,

I wanted to know if there are Kaplan videos available for gmat prep?

I prepared for CFA using these videos and they were quite helpful.

If Most of B schools are now accepting GRE score, isn't GRE better option than GMAT. and WHY??

During the Great Depression, Roosevelt's New Deal expanded federal authority by creating several new government agencies designed to provide and administer relief to the country, which had been devastated by the 1929 stock market crash. Many agencies created under the New Deal were discontinued in subsequent decades, however, when policymakers grew uncomfortable with the amount of power wielded by the federal government. Additionally, a large number of economists at the time felt the market had recovered to the point that federal regulation had become more a hindrance to than a provider of economic stability. The economists' support of the discontinuation of New Deal programs rests on which of the following assumptions about the role of the federal government in the market?

A) Interference by federal government in the market can never create economic stability.

B) Federal regulation of the market is an emergency measure and, as such, should be temporary.

C) Agencies created under the New Deal routinely exercised control beyond what was stated in their charters.

D) Policymakers who discontinued New Deal programs were not the same policymakers who originally implemented them.

E) New Deal programs designed to provide economic relief actually perpetuated market instability.

what is circular reasoning and flawed analogy?
kindly help.tia.:)

Some movies with social messages have bagged global awards this year. But to be able to attract investment for such socially relevant movies, makers of such movies have to incorporate aspects that guarantee commercial success of a film. Thus, for compromising on how their messages will be delivered through their film, they are not change makers. Which of the following is an assumption that supports the conclusion above?

[A] Many socially relevant movies never get screened in a commercial theatre

[B] Some movie makers are more concerned about their message than their film

[C] Movie makers should be more concerned about the commercial success of their movies than any cause they espouse

[D] A change maker does not make movies for commercial success

[E] Change makers do not value money more than their cause

Happy solving! πŸ˜ƒ

Hello everyone,

I'm Pawan, An MBA aspirant. I will be applying for colleges abroad (mostly USA) in January 2014 for the July-august 2014 intake .
I am very confused about a point.
Will schools in the USA consider job experience as to the date of application or the amount of work that I might actually do before joining?
e.g: By January I will have 1.5 yrs work ex, but I intend to work till July, which will complete my 2 yrs at work.
Can anybody please help me with this?

Thanks in advance

Hi Guys ,

I am going to start my gmat prepration so pls suggest from where should i start like should i go for OG or mock test. I need to improve my verbal and CR section..

Pls suggest.

there are n piles and each pile consist of m numbers

In each move, player has to select a pile and finally a number from that pile. After that, all the numbers which are greater than or equal to chosen number will be removed from that pile. Players take turn alternatively. Player who is unable to move loses the game.

first player always make first move. But before making his move, he must choose either EVEN or ODD. If first palyer chooses even then each time he selects a number it must be even and her opponent must select odd number in his/her turn. And vice versa for the other case.

please tell me how to approch this problem.thanx in advance.....

Hello everyone..

I am a guy with a very weird problem.

I am interested in doing an MBA but i'm still not sure as to which subject/specialization to choose. I am giving my GMAT on dec 9th and as of now i'M scoring only about 600.

Everybody i meet ask me as to what specialization I wanna do and i carelessly just say sales/marketing, but in reality I have no clue. I know that knowing a specialization by now is very important as I must have short listed some B schools by now.

But in reality the only thing that interests me is the pay package. So can anyone please enlighten me the best MBA specializations that will hold good value 20-30 yrs down the line?

Please help me as i'm severely confused.

NOTE: One thing I'm 100% sure of is that MBA is perfect for me, as I'm not much of a technical guy, I like managing people, I have good communicating and convincing abilities.

I'm not able to concentrate on my gmat because of this uncertainty. Please help 😞

I hope LIC FORGET about
