Fpm 2013

@AAOne yes they dont consider JRF...i dont know why???

anybody received any emails from IIM Lucknow....?

my name is there in the list uploaded in IIML website, but I didn't received any emails...

@Muneza honestly, even I don't know the reason.

Hi..I have one question that may sound silly but i'm really confused about how to get details about these subjects...as in most of the replies it's written that panelist will check your interest in the subject you opted for....
Very frankly i didn't know about any of these subjects except general one like marketing and finance..
How to get details about other subjects like Information Tech and systems, Public Policy, Strategic Management...
To select a subject one needs to have fair idea about it and he/she should be able to relate to it..
I'm planning to apply for FPM courses next year that's why asking right now...Please help...
To all seniors i'm just asking the guidance...please help me...

My Profile:
Xth: 83
XII: 82
B.E: 74
Worked in IT(Cognizant) for 1 and half year but didn't find myself satisfied with the work there..so came back to Education field only..currently working as a faculty in one of the coaching institutes in Ahmedabad..
Does teaching experience helps in adding weight to your profile...???

Any suggestions will help....Thanks in advance..

@AAOne oK thanks..
Please check our website www.iimb.ernet.in for more details, on Wednesday 20th March 2013 (By evening).

@sdhar2013 Got a mail from IIM Bangalore- called me both for Pref 1 and Pref 2...

Now what?

Can any of the friends on the list guide me to the following:

1. What I should expect in the RAT?

2. What I should expect in the interview process?

I have been in the industry for too long and have very little idea on these things. So please help

1.Any news / updates on marketing in IIMB?
2. Short listed in IIML - traveling from Bangalore on april 7 (morning indigo flight). anyone doing the same, PM me 😃 - also i assume there will be no mails from IIML ? No help on route map / how to reach there?

Sharing what I know about IIMB FPM interviews and RAT:

Each area sends interview calls for 20-25 prospective candidates. The intake per area is 0 - 6, both 0 and 6 are extreme numbers, typically its 2/3/4.
On your first day (4th April this yr) you are required to take RAT and area specific tests if any. In the evning there will be an interactive dinner where prospective candidates get to meet the current FPM students, this is one good opportunity to get some 'real' idea about the program.
Second day you have the interviews. Some area further shortlists the 20-25 candidates based on RAT and area specific tests.

RAT: a two hour CAT like aptitude test with similar 3 sections on quants, DI, Verbal ability tests. The level is not as tough as CAT, the scores have some effect in filtering candidates but they are only part of your overal application package. In the past, finance and marketing areas have used RAT scores to further shortlist for interviews, I am not sure about other areas. Those who have already taken some sort of tests like CAT in recent past would find RAT ridiculously easy, for those who are not in touch with the world of test scores etc would need a week's brush up of basic quants and DI.

Area specific tests: I know about two areas - OBHR & Public Policy - these two have specfic tests. CSP does not have any such tests. To the best of my knowledge so far no other area except those two had such tests, but things may change this year.
Public Policy test: they take this test very seriously and eliminate more than half candidates even before interview. You will be tested on your awareness and opinion on current issues of policy relevance such as education, health, governance, growth, poverty, inequality, empowerment, environment etc. If you read editorials in Hindu and few other magazines, you are quite capable of answering the questions. They ask 5-8 such questions where you are asked to write 1-2 para. There might be a few logical reasoning questions as well. In OBHR, you are given a research article and asked to answer a few questions based on it; you will be asked to think of other situations where these research questions might be relevant, other possible research questions that you might add to the current paper, any other thought on how to look at the current questions in a different perspective etc. Basically you dont need any specific preparation for this.

Interview: My personal opinion is that interviews play the most crucial role in getting admission. Panel of 2-3 professors take interviews. The duration may vary from 15 to 45 minutes, on an average 20-30 min. The most frequently asked questions are:
1. Why do you want to do phd? Why in X specialization? Why from IIMB?
2. How do you think you can meet the rigor of the program? What will you after you complete phd? How your background is relevant/useful for phd in this specialization?
3. For people with work ex: Why do you make such a career shift? How will you sustain with meager fellowship? Do you want to do phd because you are bored with your job, cluless about future? How well have you planned your career path?
4. For freshers: why not MBA? why not apply to phd after a few years of work ex?
5. Other general questions from your work ex, interests, family etc might be asked. A few questions covering basic concepts of that area will be asked. Questions on your research interests as mentioned in SOP will be asked.
Overally the panel will try to test 2 things: if you are genuinely interested in phd and have a sense of what you will signing up for by entreing the program; and if you are a capable student (in terms of analytical thinking, comprehension, dedication etc) to meet the rigor of the program.

All the best to all of you who are coming down for the interviews 😃

IIM A - CISG:

average - 10 mins interview - they were in hurry. compiled list of ques from various participants.
no Ques on why FPM etc.
Proper technical interview-

write java program to fill 2d diagonal array
what is AI

why not PhD from IIT? why from IIM?
any random subject chosen from your graduation and questions from them.
i did not have IT / Computer graduation and current role in IT industry in management. they ask me what should they ask me? quite unexpected case. i told u have shortlisted me, so its your job to ask ques based on shortlisting criteria (excat way / words cant recall as it was very random situation:-)
asked for research proposal - impact of technology on business decisions, work force productivity etc - they told its part of operations / strategy and NOT CISG.
looked to me they wanted some comp sc guy from IIT or a DBA from oracle or a network admin from cisco ;-)
