Hi All,
I am planning to take FRM 2009. i was really confused whether to go for CFA or FRM. Since FRM is one year course, i decided to go for FRM.
I want to know if its too early to start preparing for FRM now. Well, i have got 2008 Schweser material and want to know if Quants portion changes every year or not.
BTW, is there any dedicated thread on PG for FRM 2009 aspirants?
Hi Puys..
I new to the term FRM but after going through the thread, i think i have got the basic job done by a FRM professional..
Is it possible to get some study material online which can be downloaded or any institute which gives training for FRM in New Delhi??..
Thanks..
Well u can get certain books online.. But, since the new course outline is still not out, I am not sure how useful these materials are. Maybe, the 2008 exam takers can guide on that. If you want to get the links, then PM me.
Hi guys,
Can some one help me from where should i get the A-Z of FRM certification material?
I currently stay in New delhi and pursuing CFA...
thanks & Regards,,
My friend, whats the hurry?
You are just completing your graduation and appearing for L1 right? It means that you are near 21-22 in age. Even if you flunk a couple of times (which I pray you don't), you will still complete CFA by 27ish, which is very ideal for a person to do so!
The best would be to complete 2 levels of CFA straight and then go for FRM as it will be beneficial for FRM and for L-3 also since some of FRM stuff rolls over into L-3 of CFA.
Life has finer pleasures and moments also apart from studying. Take things easy and cool down. You dont want to be out of steam when it really matters to wok hard (typically in your 30s) to move up the ladder. Preserve that fire in you for the long run. Take things slow and you will find the journey more sweet than the destination.
Just my personal advice. Others may differ! All the best for your studies.
Hi ,
Can u guide me from where i can get the material or FRM..i am interested to give the exam but dont know from where to start...
I m in New delhi...
Thanks & Regards

Hi
Can anyone tell me whether there are schweser videos for FRM ,similar to CFA ?
Hi
anyone can give me an insight as to what materials should be used for FRM exam especially the ones who have passed it or attempted it ...i am confused whether to use Core readings or FRM Handbook or schweser notes or combinations of all/or any of these , i have been getting very different opinions on the materials to be used since FRM unlike CFA does not have any stipulated study materials ...I feel its very disjoined in terms of readings and the suggested reading texts are massive ...any suggestions are hihgly appreciated
hi thankssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
Schweser Material is the most concise & precise material & one should refer to that.
But for that you need to wait till june-july.
So its suggested to start with Core Readings & Handbook.
Handbook - though not updated since march 2007 yet is very relevant.
But in isolation one may not grasp concepts through this.
And all suggested core readings are quite scattered in nature.
But John Hull (Market Risk - Derivaties), Damodar Gujrati (QUANT), Bruce Tuckman (Fixed Income) are full insight into the subject they are referring to, so go for these.
Add with Handbook and once Schweser is out, go with that.
You cant really refer one material and get through.

Hey all,
There's some lil piece of information that might be relevant to all puys who are going to appear for FRM in this year or next...FRM 2009 will be the last exam on this pattern. From next year onwards, its going to be a 2 exam fare. I got this mail from the GARP guys yesterday. This explains it all:
February 25, 2009
To the GARP membership:
The financial crisis is radically altering the global financial system. The cause of the crisis and how to tackle its effects will be the subject of much debate over the coming months and years. Irrespective of the conclusions, how risks were managed and the future role of the financial risk professional will play a prominent part in the debate.
This crisis has also brought to the forefront the importance of the role of a professional risk manager. A strong consensus has emerged that it must be objective and independent, and a collaborative voice providing advice and opinion to a firms senior management. Risk managers are now gaining a place at the senior management table, charged with creating a culture of risk awareness throughout the organization.
Given this evolution of the discipline of financial risk management, risk professionals must be prepared to rise to the challenges the marketplace is presenting them. They must be able to respond to the complexities of a new global and interconnected marketplace. One important way to ensure they are able to meet these challenges is to be sure that their skill set is sufficient to react to dynamic and evolving demands.
GARPs FRM Committee and Board of Trustees are also responding to this change in the financial risk managers status and role. Their recognition, and after much study, understanding of the increased demands that will be placed on financial risk managers in the future has required them to make important changes to the FRM programs syllabus. These changes are designed to ensure that the FRM program continues to reflect the steadily increasing and demanding skills necessary for a professional financial risk manager to respond to the complexities of a rapidly changing marketplace.
Starting in November the FRM program will begin transitioning to a two level examination format by offering for the last time the full FRM exam and for the first time Level I of the new two level FRM exam program. Level I will cover core areas of risk management, such as quantitative analysis, financial markets and products and essential risk modeling. Level II will cover specific topics on the practical implementation and execution of measurement and management of market, credit and operational risk, as well as a new section covering current issues in financial markets.
Commencing in May 2010, and again in November, both Levels I and II will be offered to candidates. That offering schedule will continue permanently into the future.
Your Board of Trustees and the FRM Committee work hard to ensure that the FRM program and GARPs other certification programs evolve with the financial markets. It is only with this type of attention to the markets and their demands on the professionals that work in the financial marketplace that you can be assured that the professional designations you earn from GARP, and the other GARP programs you take, will provide you with a positive and rewarding experience, increasing your opportunity for career advancement.
We realize that you may have many questions relating to the new FRM program syllabus. Please go to our website, at www.garp.com/frmexam/faq.aspx, for additional details.
We want to thank you for your support of GARP and its programs. It is only due to the confidence you have placed in us that we have been able to achieve our global success. As the worlds leading association for financial risk professionals, we will continue to work hard to ensure that the risk profession and those who practice in it are recognized for the benefits they offer and the skills they possess.

Hi everyone. I'm taking 2009 exam. Does anyone have 2008 FRM materials for sale? I am located in NY.
@Anil84
thanks for the inputs ,so then I will read in the following pecking order
Phillipe Jorion Handbook
Core readings (Hull,Gujrati & Tuckman) ..out of these I had read Hull (Ch 1-5) and Gujrati (ch 1-9)
during my PG ...might have forgotten most of it.
Schweser.
Btw did you take in 2008 ? and are there any other resuorces like audio, video or quick review book (like secret sauce for CFA) from schweser or any notes provider .
Thanks a lot
Hi puys,
I have a heard a lot about this course and have been recommended this course by quite a good number of people.
What I would like to know is does this course make sense for a fresher or would it make sense for someone who is working in a Finance domain to gain some knowledge and go for this designation. I am a commerce Grad in the first year of my MBA and am a total fresher. Could anyone help me with this?
@ The broker
I suggest you to got for it only when you start working in this domain or some related area (capital markets.... more towards modeling or a hedge fund) ,thereby your understanding will also be good and you will not only enjoy the readings but will also appreciate it ...nevertheless workex is not an impediment for you to pass ...if you are that keen on adding a qualification you can prepare methodically and practice the content more than once...all the best
Hi everyone I am akash

garp has came up with this innovative idea of splitting the frm exam into two levels.it will eventually increase d amount of time devoted in particular topics.its a good idea :p.but there is difference between d registration fees.nd one will end up shelling out more bucks
Hi,
