any one from bangalore appearing for FRM.. we can pool in for study materials
Dear all yesterday we had FRM pg meet at Chennai:
The discussion included lots of topics(unrelated).
The points that came out were:
1. Get stock of the study material we have and share them among within ourselves.
2. The Schweser vs. core readings.
3. Though all of us thought that core readings wud be better from the knowledge perspective the importance of schweser cannot be ruled out for clearing exam.
4. Andy added that FRM is not that tough exam as it is made out to be one.(really a comforting statement)
5. Chennai traffic
6. IPL (namely brandon maccullum and hussey innings.:w00t:
7. PLanning to meet next week again.
neways we have to wait till may 3rd week for schweser so lets try and cover hull and gujrati(if we get hold of one) to the extent possible.
Girish
suryasanthosh schweser is available in 3rd week of may. from my Approximate calculations I guess it should cost around 2500. Will inform group once we actualy approach the release date of schweser.
Girish

Hi All,
 Good to hear from you all, In PG we have a custom that whenever one has a PG Meet, they need to post pics - Guys please do that in next meet .
Some points that I would like to add
3. Core Reading is like a Textbook - Its damn vast and wide whereas the Topics are quite narrowed down as per the FRM Readings in Schweser. For a start, it would be better If one prepares from Schweser and once He has done with that, he can move on to Core Readings for adequate cover.
4. Its definitely comfortig words, All those people who gave FRM exam last year, think Otherwise. Its definitely a TOUGH EXAM.
I have joined a FRM Training Class in Mumbai, and already 3-4 people who had joined there, dropped the idea of giving FRM exam this year.
One definitely needs to put in a lot of preparation, and since the passing criteria is Percentile based, No one knows till the last moment whether they will clear the exam or not, until the result has been declared.
cheers,
Shyam

also any guys from kolkata to form a study group for FRM....
cheers ,
psycho
Hi Psycho,
Safely assuming the exchange rate to be close to 42 INR at the time the txn happens, you would need close to 550*42 = 23100 INR in your CC acct. Plus, there is a conversion fee that is charged, and service tax on that...add a margin of another 1000 bux...net-net, ensure that you have 24000+ limit on your card account before you register

and yes...as someone mentioned earlier in this forum, tseems like the card account is automatically going to be debited every year for the annual membership fee..so not only wd you have to ensure that you have funds available in your card acct at that time (to avoid going into overlimit, and thus being charged by the bank for the same), but also would you have to ensure that you keep that card acct live forever (or update GARP about it...the formalities of which are still unclear to me)

Hi guys,
I have been following this thread since a long time and it has really increased my level of interest to appear for the FRM exam in Nov 08.
I just want to gauge how doable is this course. I am a B.Com with 5 years of experience in Investment Banking (worked in Treasury and Financial Controlling functions) in India and abraod. Currently I am placed in Singapore. I want to know is there anyone from a Commerce background attempting this exam in November?
For some personal reasons, I am taking a break from work so would like to utilize this time to give a 100% dedicated effort to prepare for this exam. Keeping that in mind and also the fact that I am from a non-engineering / non-fin background, will July be too late to start preparing for it?
Anyone who can share his/her thoughts on this will be a great help to me.
Cheers.
HI Zimmer,
Welcome to PG
Me from a BMS Background, and will be giving the FRM exam this year.
For Quant Risk - People of Engineering Background, Statistics, Economics(Econometrics to be precise) will have the most benefits
For Market Risk - People of MBA Finance who are already done with Hull, will have the maximum benefits.
Rest of the course will be on similar lines for all.
Since you already work in Treasury and Financial Control functions, you may be familiar with many of the concepts required in the exam.
Starting in July will be a bit late, To gauge yourself - You can start off reading Hull and Jorion - FRM Handbook. If you find all these comfortable, the you are fit for the exam.
cheers,
Shyam

Hi ssu039,
Any idea how is ace 3 levels for FRM Coaching??
Hi all,
I am an MBA (Finance) and an engineer. I have one and an half years of experience as Research Analyst. I have relatively good grounding in Finance.
As somebody was mentioning in this forum, I too believe formal training and then self study...
I am seriously looking at taking coaching from Pristine (I would prefer ACE as it spread for 15 weeks, but they do not conduct classes in Chennai) for FRM. Before that I want know is it worth money taking coaching in Pristine? Has anybody taken coaching at Pristine or heard of somebody taking coaching at Pristine? How good is that? the curriculum structure, faculty, advisory, tips for the exam, etc...

kindly pour in suggestions in this regard,
thanks and regards,
Dora
Hi,
Other than PristineCareers there is one more institute mentioned on GARP website.
http://www.iqfindia.com/frmbrochure.pdf
Does anybody have any idea about either of two??
GARP website do mention about automatically charging renewal fee...
Please be advised that GARP automatically renews individual membership one year from the initial sign up date for those who pay via credit card. An email notification of this membership charge will be sent to you four weeks prior to your renewal date.
