1. Nuclear Reactor of India's indigenous nuclear-powered submarine, INS Arihant went critical on yesterday, helping India to step towards completing its nuclear triad. With this success, India became a member of the list countries that have built their own nuclear powered submarines along with Russia, US, UK, China and France. INS Arihant has been undergoing trials at Navy's key submarine base in Vishakhapatnam and would be launched for sea trials soon after its nuclear reactor has gone critical.
2. Famous scientist Vinod Prakash Sharma won the Gujar Mal Modi Award for Science and Technology 2013 for his contribution in the field of basic and applied research of Malaria and Vector Biology. He was presented with a scroll of honour, a silver shield and a cash prize of 2.01 lakh rupees.
3. India's rising shuttler P V Sindhu settled for a bronze medal at the World Championships after suffering a straight-game defeat against world number three Ratchanok Inthanon in the semifinals yesterday.
4. India's Sudhakar Jayant has won gold medal at the IWF World Masters weightlifting championships, held in Turin, Italy. He lifted a total of 192kg in 62kg weight category to win Gold. He had also won gold last year at the championship held in Ukraine.
