According to the procedure for scaling on IIM website, the normalisation is a two step process
" CAT 2018 shall be conducted in two sessions. Two different Test Forms shall be administered in two Test Sessions. In order to ensure fairness and equity in comparison of performances of the candidates across different test sessions, the scores of the candidates shall be subjected to a process of Normalization. The Normalization process shall adjust for location and scale differences of score distributions across different forms. After normalization across different forms, the scores shall be further normalized across different sections. The scaled scores obtained by this process shall be converted into percentiles for purposes of shortlisting."
And
"For normalization across sections, we shall use the percentile equivalence."
So it seems they have incorporated the location and scale differences among the slots but they haven't used percentile equivalence across different sections. You can observe that your QA score is not boosted till now and there is no significant difference between your raw score and the scaled score.
Last year, they scaled DILR so that the easy sections of QA and VARC do not get an undue weightage in the final score. Also, scores of both the slots were scaled up and because the slot 2 was a bit easier it was scaled less but DILR scores were boosted for both the slots.
This year, upon observing the leaked result it seems they haven't boosted the QA and DILR score giving an undue weightage to the VARC section. This shouldn't be the case.
Candidate crossing 51 in QA is equally proficient in QA as compared to the candidate crossing 68 in VARC.
So, the first step of normalizing across slots has been implemented and can ve observed but evidence of the second step of normalization across sections using percentile equivalence could not be observed.
Now, though the scores in VARC and DILR are scaled down for slot 1 and one can argue that how come the marks in individual sections are affected because of scaling across the slots. The thing is, comparing VARC of slot 1(easier) < slot 2 and scale and repeating the similar process for rest of the sections would get you there but this would only compare sections across the slots and not the difficulty level across the 3 sections within the slot.
Regarding the data in the html page, UI developers must have developed their part and integrated with the API that serves the data for it. So after every iteration the api is called and the data is displayed(just stored right now) on the respective webpage. On the result day they will just have to change the value of "visible = false" to "visible = true".
So yeah thats what I think about it and one more iteration is left and the leak is not he final result.
This is just my observation.

I just need to know how is it possible that people getting higher marks in quant are downscaled and people getting lower marks in quant are upscaled. This is baffling. Can anyone please explain this to me? I read mr scrabbler's comment that as postive scaling impacts higher marks more, negative scaling will also impact higher marks more. But this is just not possible. How is scoring higher in a difficult section < scoring lower in a difficult section? Can't say about slot-2 but this is evident in slot 1. 😥
