12:05 on clock So,We are officially past the Judgement Day for 21-23 MBA batch This 1 day, I got 1 year older.
Congratulations to all who had converted one or more institutes
For folks having multiple converts , which new/baby IIM are you likely to join?
In almost every poll on PG, I see IIM Trichy being selected the most.
Any reasons for this bias towards Trichy?
Plz share your valuable insights
Long post ahead(more of a rant, if you would like to call it). I am not really good at writing, but would appreciate if you guys hear me out.
First things first,I would like to congratulate all the guys(yes, only guys, this should set the tone for rest of the post I guess) for making it to your dream colleges and also to boys who would make it to these so-called elite institutes after clearing waitlists.
It's been a good number of days since I have been seeing lots of posts on LinkedIn as well as here about people getting into business schools after doing hard work and sacrifices but I am also seeing disappointment and anger(which seems to be fair).
I just want to let you know that don't let these colleges decide if you are talented or not. Just because you are a guy(Gem or not a gem) and you don't get extra points doesn't mean end of the world. I know this system sucks, but it is what it is and you must have accepted this or are going to accept it sometime. I have seen a lot of people yelling what are you talking about, mba colleges have engineers/guys a lot and etc. But you know why, because they .....*** deserve that seat and you know that and you also know that you can't beat them but only yell at them.
Being a guy in this country is tough but nobody talks about that. Some stupid people who are sitting in these institutes have started to give around 20% of marks just because you are a female. Conditions are bad in old iims but it is even worse in new/baby iims. We all know that not many girls prefer engineering, and these colleges have started giving academic and gender diversity points to them(which eventually takes them to some different rank altogether) and guys who have worked their asses off and have proved themselves are just relying on the day of the interview hoping that everything goes fine.
To say that guys are fuc**d, would be an understatement and we all know that how fair our society is in judging people. I have seen a lot of bright and promising minds regretting about choosing engineering and what not. But I would like to say them all that you guys don't need to be ashamed of anything. But the thing is, it is easy to say that. So what should these bright minds do? Everyone can't afford going abroad and keep waiting for things to fall in place. Tbh I don't know the answer to this question. Situation against gems and guys in general is going to get worse in the future.
There are things you all want to say probably but words can't describe I know. There is a lot that goes against guys but society doesn't talk about that( not just about mba).
Finally,I would like to congratulate once again to all the guys(whether you have gotten in or not) for being so persistent and also to all the female candidates who made it through their hard work and personality and not just for being a girl.
Thank you for reading, just wanted to say it somewhere where people would understand and sorry if I have made anyone of you feel bad or have hurt your feelings.
Guys what to choose among these. Please help.

My #AIWTSAC
Well, I finally get to write it lol Almost thought this day would not come. Profile? GNEM 7/9/7 profile. Pretty much average or below average for some. :P
2019 was my first attempt, a comparatively much casual one – 97.93%ile. Knew that this was not my best, additionally there were a few external factors I could not have avoided. So, decided to try again. Started my prep in June, wrote a mock, scored a 99%ile. A much-needed confidence boost. But as we all know too well now, the next few mocks were the much needed “awakening” that I needed lol The next few months were pretty much what any aspirant would have faced – ups and downs in scores etc.
Then came the D-day. Throughout my mocks, I scored well in VARC – the only section in which I got 100%ile 3 times lol But something happened and I just couldn’t attempt the section how I usually do, messed it up. Managed to perform roughly to my expectations in both DILR and QA. Result – 99.75%ile. I was satisfied with my %ile, almost too satisfied. My XAT centre was 3 hours away, almost did not take the exam because of my overconfidence lol. Thank god I had some common sense. Took XAT, got a 99.96%ile – I knew it instantly that XLRI was my best shot. Then the calls started coming in. Tbh, being a NE, I expected that after 99.75 I would probably get 3 or more old IIMs, this was mainly because I was blinded throughout 2020 by my goal of scoring a high %ile. To the extent that I never really thought about selection criteria etc of the top colleges.
Shortlists –
XL, L, FMS and K.
I decided to appear for NMIMS PI process as a “mock” for my other PIs. I regret this decision even today. Why? I did not prepare for it at all, my score was pretty average – 257. Verdict – reject. Even though I knew I had not prepared, the rejection did hurt my confidence, and this directly affected my IIML PI which was a few days after NM results. I completely messed it up, after this I knew I had to pull myself together otherwise CAT 2021 dena padega. Next was K, then XL and finally FMS.
K – Shortlisted
XLRI BM – Shortlisted
FMS – Direct Reject
L – WL (Pretty much rejected)
Today, I am extremely happy to tell you guys that I will be joining XLRI. Honestly, I am glad. Getting shortlisted by one of the top institutes is a much needed “pat on the back”. That being said, do not let rejections affect you as much I let them affect me. One interview is not going to tell you your worth or any number of interviews for that matter.
My 2 cents –
Do not appear for interviews of colleges you do not want. [unless you’re giving your 100%]
Prepare with a motivated group of 2-3 friends. [Trust me, learning from others is the best way to crack CAT]
Do not get complacent at any point of time during this process. A lot of luck is in play, all you can do is give your best.
Finally, Id like to thank all the peeps here on PG who kept me motivated directly or indirectly. This is the end of my CAT journey; all I can say is – it was worth it. A single piece of paper cannot decide your future, but it can definitely make your future.
Congratulations to those who made it to their desired colleges, and best of luck to those who are not willing to compromise!
PS - Future aspirants can contact me, I'll help as much as I can.
How true are the negative reviews of IIML's profs and its placements found on various social media. Should I consider going to spjimr over L ?
Congratulations to all the stalwarts who converted their preferred calls this year. CAT 2021 it is for me now. Could someone share the links to some good quality cat preparation materials? TIA
