I read this article just now - https://thecatwriter.com/2021/05/16/iims-versus-fms-xl-mdi-and-other-top-schools-4/ Do read it if you have time and please comment about your opinions on this especially if you're someone who has converts from both, a reputed high Tier private college and an old IIM like SILK (L not released yet, but eventually when they do it later). Article TLDR : Opt for old IIMs like L,K,I over SP, XLRI, FMS e.t.c due to various reasons but mainly IIM tag.
This is gonna be a long post, maybe like a vent. I need some advices please. Thankyou. I would be grateful.
A quick profile. 9.6/93.2/7.54 , Bcom(H) from Hansraj, DU. Graduated in 2020. No work ex as of now. NC-OBC. I have a decent amount of extra-curricular certificates.
I gave CAT 2019 by preparing as hard as I could. I gave around 100+ mocks. On the actual day of the exam, I panicked. Wanted to scream and get out of the hall as soon as the exam started. I somehow scored 82 percentile with a terrible DILR (23 percentile). No calls. Decided to drop without any second thoughts.
During the past year, I worked on my profile by learning various skills in the field of 3D animation, AR and Digital Art. Did some freelancing work as well.
I prepared for CAT 2020, this time focusing on analysing my mocks more. I still managed to give 50+ mocks with full analysis. Again on the D Day, I was confident but the stress was killing me from the inside as I took around 5 minutes to even solve 120 +50 . This was the ultimate horror. I attempted 5 questions in dilr. Came out of the hall and knew this was the end of me. Altho I was surprised that all those 5 questions were correct and I scored 68 percentile in dilr, and 85.56 overall. I managed to get calls from K(rejected now, scary interview), new and baby iims (good interviews)
I tried to give XAT 2021, with no stress at all. scored 90 percentile. got a call from XIMB. Waitlisted (89) as of now.
By now I have given up on everything and went through depression. I tried to get myself back on my feet and prepared as hard as I could for IIFT as it was my one last hope.
Didn't do well. Scored 63 percentille, but the results surprised me as I was shortlisted for an interview. I made a vow to kill my interview as I spent more than a month preparing for it. My interview and extempore went v good. (Results awaited with a v slim chance to convert because of low CS.)
Gave NMAT also,Scored 245, missed sectional by one mark.
My interests are either in finance or marketing. I am hoping the college will make me realise the sector I am suitable for. I consider myself creative because I have artistic hobbies (Idk if that helps in marketing sector)
My current situation - I completely feel like a faliure. somewhere, I question my capabilities. I can't handle highly stressful exams like these. a major weakness as of now. I am sure that even if I drop, this would still happen again and again and this is why I am trying to get an admission this year. I can't handle the whole process again, it can tear me down. can't go for a job because of personal reasons. Packages are not a big factor for me, I just want to learn as much as possible.
Altho, considering old IIMs, I think my acads are decent enough for it, which makes we want to try again but the unpredictability of the results scares me. I am okay in settling for a decent college, can work hard super hard after I get a job.
I want to know the opportunity costs of giving CAT again and if it's worth it.

Finally this rollercoaster ride has come to an end. After converting Indore and getting waitlisted for Kozikode ( as per last year's movement I'll convert it) there is nothing left but to decide where to go. With a 6.78 GPA, extended degree and 2 years of work experience as a data engineer I wonder what's the best choice for me. I am fully aware of the struggle which lies ahead. Unless I get a very good CGPA and get relevant summer placement, I won't be shortlisted for the best brands. I'd be highly grateful if people can give their insights on which college should I choose between kozikode and indore. Kindly consider the following points before pitching in: - LSM and finance batches shall also be participating in the placements this year so I think the difference of batch size between Indore and kozikode will reduce taking away that edge from kozikode - IIM Indore fees :17Lpa IIM Kozhikode Fees : 21LPA - As per my perception there is not a HUGE difference between the brand value of K and I.

Below 125 WL at IIM K. Can I hope to convert?
What should be the extent to which a label should govern your career decisions? Is it okay to settle for a lesser popular label for a course that really aligns with your aspirations or go for the bigger label and 'go with an open mind'? I am confused (chiefly) between IIM Indore PGP HR and IIT Kharagpur MHRM. I have converted IIM Indore core too but somehow I am not able to convince myself for other domains. I like interacting and dealing with people. People interest me. I don't even understand why IIM Indore has made HR a separate specialisation when the first year syallabus is same for all. It's just like you chose all HR subjects as electives in 2nd year. A specialisation means that it's only that domain you'll study throughout 2 years - like in MHRM or MDI HR. On Placements aspect too, IIM Indore failed badly getting HRM students placed. While MHRM didn't suffer much. I've asked a lot of people the same thing and it all comes to - IIM is a label for life. IIT is a label too, but MHRM is a lesser known course. Etc etc... Does IIT/IIM label really matter few years down the line? Haven't we seen people quitting job even after IIT or IIM stints? Haven't we seen people come back to India and start their own venture? What's the limit after which one can finally say - ok, now it's enough. No more. And like @jatinsh11 said below, I just want a job I like working on. No hi-fi monetary aspirations. And I just don't want to look back and think 'I could have done that'. I feel like shit right now. It's basically Engineering all over again. I often thought that if I could go back, I'd definitely take arts and choose English or psychology. But now that I am in present and given an almost similar choice... I'm scared. And I hate this feeling. P.s. Don't ask about XLRI - couldn't give XAT.
