There used to be a user @karl-marx. Is he taking IIMABC this year?
There are two numbers such that, if both of them are individually increased by 5 and then by same percentge as they were increased in the first instance, each would result in 36. Find the difference between two numbers.
a)23
b)22
c)20
d)24
Can someone please let me know what criteria did FMS employ in order to release their final merit list ?

Most chilled out job Profile after MBA? Which companies to target, Want only work life balance. Will be joining MDI this year.
Below RC is from SIMCAT 5 of 2018. Need help with one of the questions from the passage.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The task of creative work is to weave something new and wonderful out of the tattered threads of culture and convention. On the enchanted loom of the mind, our memory and experience, our personal histories and cultural histories, interlace into a particular pattern which only that particular mind can produce â such is the combinatorial nature of creativity. In describing the machinery of his own mind, Albert Einstein called this interweaving âcombinatory play.â It cannot be willed. It cannot be rushed. It can only be welcomed â the work of creativity is the work of bearing witness to the weaving.
The inner workings of that unwillable loom, which we often call inspiration, is what Rainer Maria Rilke explores in a beautiful passage from his only novel â The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge, which also gave us Rilke on the essence of art. Decades before pioneering psycholinguist Vera John-Steiner noted that âin the course of creative endeavors, artists and scientists join fragments of knowledge into a new unity of understanding,â Rilke writes:
For the sake of a few lines one must see many cities, men and things. One must know the animals, one must feel how the birds fly and know the gesture with which the small flowers open in the morning. One must be able to think back to roads in unknown regions, to unexpected meetings and to partings which one has long seen coming; to days of childhood that are still unexplained, to parents that one had to hurt when they brought one some joy and one did not grasp it; to childhood illness that so strangely began with a number of profound and grave transformations, to days in rooms withdrawn and quiet and to mornings by the sea, to the sea itself, to seas, to nights of travel that rushed along on high and flew with all the stars â and it is not yet enough if one may think of all of this. One must have memories of many nights of love, none of which was like the others, of the screams of women in labor, and of light, white, sleeping women in childbed, closing again. But one must also have been beside the dying, one must have sat beside the dead in the room with the open window and the fitful noises.
More than half a century before neurologist Oliver Sacks enumerated âforgettingâ among the three essential elements of creativity, Rilke adds:
And still it is not enough to have memories. One must be able to forget them when they are many, and one must have the great patience to wait until they come again. For it is not yet the memories themselves. Not until they have turned to blood within us, to glance, to gesture, nameless and no longer to be distinguished from ourselves â not until then can it happen that in a most rare hour the first word of a verse arises in their midst and goes forth from them.Â
Â
Q According to Rilke, poetry reflects all of the following experiences of a poet EXCEPT:
a) Solitude and solitary wanderings.Â
b) Travel to unfamiliar places.Â
c) Death and bereavement.Â
d) The guilt of hurting oneâs parentsÂ
When is the new academic session supposed to start and when will the actual classes begin in the campus/online? I just need a tentative date/month. I am waitlisted in a few baby and new IIMs .

How the world uses energy is a hot topic for a warming planet, and fears of pollution and resource strain have produced a virtual arms race of energy-efficiency strategies. From the European Union to China, economies are vowing to reduce their energy intensity with the help of technological innovations and legislative changes. Yet, despite these promises, consumer demand for energy is forecast by the International Energy Agency to rise until at least 2040. With the worldâs energy needs growing, how can policymakers guarantee supply?
To put it bluntly, the world has nothing to worry about when it comes to reserves. After 40 years of fearing energy shortages, we have entered an era of abundance. We need to guard against false narratives, not scarce resources. The culprit of this storyline is the Club of Rome, a global think-tank that, in the 1970s, spurred energy anxiety with its absurd prophecies derived from questionable models. As devoted followers of Thomas Malthus and Paul Ehrlich, the club argued that bad things come from exponential growth, and good things from linear growth. This idea fueled the prediction that the world would run out of oil by 2020.
By adopting this nonsense dogma, developed countries enabled resource-rich authoritarian leaders like Muammar el-Qaddafi in Libya, and Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in Iran, to use their oil reserves as tools to oppose the West â and particularly its support for Israel. This contributed to the oil shocks of the 1970s, and reinforced the erroneous perception that hydrocarbon reserves were even more limited, and largely confined to the Middle East.
Rapid advances in technology, particularly in the field of exploration and the ability to extract hydrocarbons in new places, eventually upended such narratives. Todayâs energy âcrisisâ stems not from shortages, but from anxiety over pollution. But this anxiety has not slowed our exploration habits. On the contrary, politics and international law, like the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, have been adapted to enable discovery.
But perhaps the biggest technology-driven upheaval for global energy markets in recent years has come from shale gas and shale oil production in the United States. At 8.8 million barrels per day, US oil production is now higher than that of Iraq and Iran combined. Taken together, these developments have contributed to lower energy prices, and reduced the strength of OPEC. Furthermore, because LNG is favored by the transport sector (particularly freight and maritime shippers) for environmental reasons, the ability to use oil as a geopolitical weapon has disappeared. Iran was so desperate to ramp up its oil exports that it agreed to abandon its nuclear program.
Wind and solar are often presented as alternatives to oil and gas, but they cannot compete with traditional sources for electricity generation. If they could, there would be no reason for the EU to support renewable energy production through legislation. Moreover, while wind and solar technologies generate electricity, the biggest energy demand comes from heating. In the EU, for example, electricity represents only 22% of final energy demand, while heating and cooling represents 45%; transportation accounts for the remaining 33%.
All of these factors help explain why fossil fuels, which currently meet more than 80% of the worldâs energy needs, will remain the backbone of global energy production for the foreseeable future. This may not come as welcome news to those pushing for an immediate phase-out of hydrocarbons. But perhaps some solace can be gained from the fact that technological innovation will also play a key role in reducing the negative impacts on air and water quality.
Amid the global conversation about climate change, it is understandable that developed economies would promise significant gains in energy efficiency. But while the EU may be committed to reducing CO2 emissions, other signatories of the 2015 Paris climate agreement do not seem as resolute. It would not be surprising if most of the signatories actually raised their energy consumption in coming years, turning to fossil fuels because they cannot afford any other option.
Energy policy will remain on the agenda for advanced economies for many years to come. But as countries work to balance security of supply with environmental goals, they must also commit to getting their facts straight.Â
Â
âHow the world uses energy is a hot topic for a warming planetâŚâ The first sentence of the passage serves which of the following purposes in the essay?
A) It leads the reader to a better understanding of the âhot topicâ of energy misuse and the warming of the planet.Â
B) It captures the writerâs thesis that while potential shortages and threats from pollution form the energy narrative, the demand for fossil fuels shows no sign of abating.
C) It introduces the reader to the ideas about to be presented in the passage that have to do with effective use of energy.Â
D) It makes a sarcastic stress on the âhot topicâ which, as the passage later reveals, is not deserving of the urgency it has received.

I am not a very active member of PG but I felt my convert story could give hope to some people for next yearâs interviews. Firstly, I feel the pain of all the GEMs after getting to know how Old IIMs donât give them a chance for PI despite such high percentiles and good profiles. I am an OBC candidate and I am aware of the edge which reservation gives me. However, my familyâs caste and circumstances denied my parents basic education and much more, so I believe this tag of OBC did come at a cost (letâs avoid the reservation debate). The point of making this post is different.Â
Iâve been working in auto sector for the past two years and everyone knows how bad the auto sector has been since beginning of FY 2019-20. My manager and my company pretty much sat on my neck throughout the year. I hardly prepared for CAT for 40 days and would have given 15-20 mocks. I messed up my CAT, i guess i exhausted myself by giving too many sectionals and full length mocks and analysis, should have taken some rest.
CAT 2019- 97.60% (far from good i know), Job ex 2 years S&M as a Channel Sales Manager, 9.8/86%/8.6 (IIT).
Â
I was sure that I have absolutely tanked my CAT and this year will go down the drain. IIML released the shortlist on the same day as the CAT results, I had no hope but I decided to check if I have a chance for WAT PI. This is where it gets interesting. The list called a total of 1911 NC OBC candidates, if you open the pdf of WAT PI list and check the cutoff for OBC, thatâs me. I am the cutoff candidate. 1911th candidate out of 1911 candidates.Â
Overall, I got calls from L, K, CAP (all), baby IIMs, FMS. I had calls from IIFT, SPJIMR (profile based) and XLRI too.Â
Attended- L, K, CAP, IIFT, XLRI, SPJIMR.This post is about IIML target.Â
Getting an IIML call made me happy but I had zero hopes of conversion since I knew I was literally at the bottom of the list. However, I decided I'll give it my best and I'll not think of the possibility of failing till the interview is done. The plan was to give interviews of other colleges before L and get prepared for IIML interview. WAT PI dates came out and boom, I had it on 8th Feb in Kolkata. I was stunned because it was going to be my first interview of the season and it was in two weeks.Â
I gave 5 mock PIs in next two weeks, put up a leave for the week before the interview and read god knows how many current affairs articles, Indian politics, global affairs, statistics and what not. In those two weeks I would wake up and go to office and still manage to put close to 8-10 hours daily for interview prep. I was very thankful for this chance.Â
Then came the day of interview (I'll keep this brief, what happened in the interview would need a transcript), my panel had 7 candidates. WAT went excellent since I read about the topic few days ago in detail (sad that it was scrapped afterwards). I was last to be interviewed, I saw everyone come out of the room with a red face. My panel interviewed 3 candidates in the same time as other panels would interview one guy, 10-15 mins per candidate before me. The feedback was that they were extremely rude and were just there to grill. My confidence took a slight hit but then I thought I wonât let these two panelists ruin my efforts of past months. I went in (things happened), it went on for 25-30 mins and I came out smiling, I knew I had a good PI.Â
Skipping past three and half months filled with interviews, work stress, losing my grandfather in lockdown and anxious nights (since job was dreadful and reappearing for CAT 2020 was not an option for me).Â
23 May 2020- IIML results came out. I did not make it to the first list, but what I did manage to do was to jump from rank 1911/1911 to 253/1911 post WAT PI. Admissions were offered till 209 merit rank. I had already converted K in first list so I was a bit content, but I knew that L was what I was fighting for.Â
Present day 6 June 2020- Converts- IIM L (second list), IIM K, IIFT(K), CAP all. WL 11 at SPJIMR (no reservation XD). FMS WL 138 (I wish they took interviews).
Had IIML decided to shortlist one less candidate for WAT PI, I would not have made it. That is also why I feel even more sad for GEMs now. The system is not perfect, I hope things change. I hope my story clears every aspirant's doubt about converting after receiving a call. Â
I have not mentioned the failures during the journey and how much they effected me, i wanted to keep this short.Â
Congrats to all the people joining colleges this year and all the best to CAT 2020 aspirants. Stay positive. I was thankful for the call, I converted because I believed.
Cheers!Â
Edit. P.S.- If you still feel hate for me after reading this, i have made a comment in the comments describing my opinions further, it starts with 'here i go again' (it's an ocean of comments now XD). If the hate still persists, god bless your soul, don't post a hate comment, directly DM me aa ke acche se gali de lena. Peace.Â
Edit 2 : Final Converts IIM L,K, CAP (all), FMS, IIFT K, SPJIMR Marketing. If the world was different and simpler without reservation. I would have joined SPJIMR instead of giving this prep thing one more year. Â
Is there any group for CAT-2020 where doubts are addressed promptly and not get lost in filthy shit of polls and irrelevant questions (a lot of them.like ye iim kitna paisa kaat rha ...salon site khol k padh lo thoda sb diya hai udhar). @Utkarsh7511 and al members of DT-19 and 20. Please form a group and remove all those peoples who post polls and other crap like college ads, loan ads and allow only relevant content like doubts, mock strategy,AIWSTAC.It would help a lot to the puys who are actually preparing

I read some of the interview experiences of students who got a call from the top colleges and that intimidated me... The amount of knowledge they test in some of the interviews sometimes made it seem like those tough UPSC interviews and I feel that if by chance I get those calls next year [if & only if I perform well in CAT] then even after having those calls from tier 1 colleges, I would fail miserably. And hence, I would want to work on that from now itself, considering the difficulty of these interviews and my current level. Also, how do you handle those goddamn WAT topics? Can y'all tier 1 institute call getters throw some light on how did you all prepare for such grilling interviews? And more specifically, what sources do you read from on a daily basis?(suggest some good quality one's)

Hi, does anyone have the previous years AIMCATS and SIMCATS ? Including the last year's.
Any thoughts on this?
Reserved guys  like Ayush verma_ 30 . a 97.6 proud of his OBC tag bragging about how he converted IIM L ( cant tag him as he has blocked me LOL :p ) who hide from the discussion related to such issues should rise up and debate about reservations.
Why can't the general category people stand up together if the reservation thing applies to private sector as well? So much of snatching of opportunities from us.
A movie theater announced that an 8-minute movie won the title of Best Short Film in the World ... So, it was decided to display this movie in the cinema for free, so that the largest crowd could gather to watch it ... The movie began with a snapshot of a room ceiling that is devoid of any decoration and of any details; Just a white ceiling ... 3 minutes passed without the camera moving and it did not move to any other scene, or any other part of the ceiling in the same room ... Another 3 minutes passed without the camera moving and without changing the scene ... After 6 boring minutes, the viewers started grumbling; Some of them were about to leave the theater hall; And some of them objected to the officials of the house because they wasted their time watching a ceiling ... Suddenly, before the majority became concerned and starting to leave, the camera lens slowly moved on a wall without any details as well until it reached down towards the floor, there a child appeared on a bed, who seems to be totally handicapped due to the spinal cord tear in his little body ... The camera slowly moved to the side of the handicap bed, showing a wheelchair without a back ... The camera moved to the boring location of the ceiling again; this time it displayed a sentence: *"We showed you only 8 minutes of this child's daily activity, only 8 minutes from the scene that this handicapped child watches all the hours of his life, and you complained and werenât patient for only six minutes, you couldn't bear to watch it... So know the value of every second of your life that you spend in wellness, and thank God for every blessing bestowed on you, and you will not feel its existence unless you lose it ... We suffer from quarantine and the curfew, which is, God willing, for a limited time. There are millions who live their entire lives in quarantine ... Covid-19 has possibly made some of us take time to think about our many privileges.
