HELP!! HELP!! I work for a UK based Hedge Fund(core finance).They treat us like slaves. They haven’t ended anyone’s probation period, it’s been 9 months since we joined. We all work here for average 12 hours a day. One day they call the person they don’t like anymore & kick the person out that minute, without any notice. Thy ve done this with 3 people yet.If you ask to give any justification they say they don’t have time to talk. The head of our firm tells us he is a billionaire & has harassed many of my female friends on phone calls. They have lied to us on many aspects. This is my first first ever job & all of us here are freshers. I don’t know if this is how all corporates work. Why am I writing this today - they kicked out my friend without any notice. All the above is true & are facts. I am preparing for CAT 19 & am super serious. Should I manage prep with this job or should look for a new one? Is having less than 1 year exp. at a firm bad for my CV ? PS I hate the people & environment but I like the work.

i got a mail from IIM rohtak saying am in waitlist but they didnt give any waitlist rank asd they are asking to deposit 20,000 for the consideration of waitlist movement . does anyone know whether they will refund the amount if i didnt get any seat or not?

I need a small explanation about the EWS thing. Any future UPSC aspirant or reservation expert can answer. There are an increase in seats due to EWS. So how are they going to fill. Say b4 there were 225 seats and now say 240 (15 ews). So if we have an EWS guy scoring better, he will get a general seat. So now there are 239 gen seats (14 ews). Am I right?? Now say 225 general seats are filled and all EWS is full, do we still have more 15 general seats ya the admission is complete.

Hi I have received multiple messages and can't reply individually to them right now because of huge volume. Instead I have noted all your queries and answering here so more people can benefit.
Specializations -
Depends solely on your interests but Finance has a mismatch between supply and demand. Too many aspirants less companies and roles. You may not get the profile you need and competition is high. Old IIMs are more suited for Finance. Here, many companies and start ups come for marketing and all New IIMs are able to place marketing students easily, provided you have decent profile and communication skills. For Operations, Consulting, General Management, the trend I have observed is that it is difficult for freshers to get these roles. If you are planning on taking HR, you will not be placecom's favorite for sure. Suggest you join IIM Ranchi or a specialized HR course than general MBA which IIMs offer.
Comparison with Old IIMs and other top private colleges
Old IIMs are still a class apart and are respected much more in the industry. In New IIMs you will get the IIM tag but people respect other brands like XLRI, MDI, Symbiosis too. I am doing my internship in Mumbai and Narsee Monjee is a very well respected brand here, much more than New IIMs. Old IIMs and private colleges mentioned above get better roles. companies, salaries and have better reputation in the industry. But I feel Trichy, Ranchi and Udaipur will catch up with them soon.
Should I repeat?
You can consider if you are a Fresher or have less than 1 year of work ex. Work ex bracket of 24-36 months can get you a huge advantage in admission and even placements. But don't plan for a repeat if you have more than 4 years of work ex as it gets no advantage here. If your salary is already above 9 LPA. aim for only old IIMs. New IIMs keep on improving every year so there is added advantage of that if you wait it out for another year. Once these institutes complete 10 years around 2020-21. Placements are going to improve. CAT can be unpredictable so if you do plan on repeating, do give XAT, NMAT and SNAP as well.
Academics are also important. I will advice you to not repeat if you have converted Ranchi, Trichy or Udaipur but if you have 90/90/80+ acads, you should be aiming for Old IIMs.
Do people get unplaced? What kind of people are struggle during placements? When do placements get over?
Placecom tries their best to get everyone placed. Usually people with work ex and those with good academics and communication get placed first. Most of the batch does get placed before 3rd term (internships) and many of my seniors got placed before 6th term
There is no placecom dadagiri (some people asked if it was similar to a quora answer about IIM Lucknow.) But it is always better to be in good terms with all committee members.

IIM Rohtak, Kozhikode and Sambalpur going the extra mile to get more gender diversity in their batch will only negatively affect the gender ratio. Atleast in other Baby IIMs. It is a cakewalk for any girl with a CAP call to convert Rohtak. Why would anyone with a Rohtak call even Consider Baby IIMs? Batch of 100 each in IIM Sirmaur and Sambalpur of 2018-20 batch have literally 0 girls! IIM Sambalpur has reduced cut off from 95 to 90 for girls this year. We want Baby IIMs to grow but how can we expect them to? Why would a busy top company executive consider travelling to a Tier 3 city with low connectivity like Sirmaur to select from a Homogeneous batch? Why were Sambalpur and Sirmaur reports released 2-3 months after other IIMs have released? Where are IIM Bodh Gaya and Jammu placement reports for the year?
