Got rejected by the Holy trinity of ABC even though my Interview at Ahmedabad was decent and my interview at Calcutta was amazing.Funnily enough,I Wasn't even shortlisted for IIMB. Here in, lies the problem with the dubious Interview process of these hallowed institutes. Your fate is dependent on the whims and fancies of the interview panel you are assigned to. The 2nd process is less dependent on your skills and maybe more dependent on your luck because the Interview process is in the end subjective and completely dependent on the perspective of the Interviewers. Also, the system seems to be geared against GEMs especially freshers. Seat reservation is a different issue altogether. To put my dilemna into perspective, I couldn't secure a seat at the top 3 institutes even after being among the top 400-500 rankers in the CAT examination and I know people who scored better than me and are in a similar state. Of course, there needs to be a 2nd screening stage in the selection stage, but it has to be more objective. I am not salty at missing out on ABC because my aim has always been getting into a good B-school regardless if it's ABC or not; but I am just flustered about what more I could have had done. Anyway, Congratulations to all converts and Best of Luck to everyone who couldn't make it:)

Let's say a MBA aspirant gets an admission offer in one of BLACKI. Now, he takes a loan amount of 20 lakhs from any bank. In a real-world scenario, how many years will he need to repay the entire amount considering he gets placed with a package of 17 lpa CTC?

Hi everyone! Today marks the end of my first B-school admission cycle as a GEM candidate (though FMS interview is yet to come). I have converted XLHRM, IIMC and almost converted XLBM (WL-2). I was not shortlisted by L,I,A due to below average performances in XII and graduation.

I came across a few posts today about the subjectivity of the post-CAT/XAT process and how that makes it somewhat unfair. I cannot agree more with the subjectivity argument. You cannot always expect to resonate with the panelists in your views and opinions. But, I still feel that if you are able to justify your stand, then they are objective enough to award you good marks.Β

My XLHRM interview revolved around the very controversial topic that whether the choice to abort rests with the mother or not. One of the panelists strongly opined against the pro-choice argument and my stand was placed at the exact opposite end of the spectrum. Many excellent points were raised by both sides but our discussion almost turned into an argument. At the end, I was still firmly defending my viewpoint but when I came out, I was pretty sure that I have pissed him off and there is no way I am getting in. As it turns out, it was my first convert. They might not agree with you but they are much more capable and experienced than all of us and will certainly respect our opinions even if they do not agree with them.Β

Many a times during my Calcutta interview, I was asked questions which I had no clue about. I simply told them that and they moved on. Guess what, IIMC is my second convert. They are humans and understand you are a human too. Not knowing the answer to every question is fine. The way you handle yourself is important.Β

I guess the key to acing the process, including the CAT, is detachment. Do not get emotional at every mention of an IIM and you will sail through. Do not imagine yourself sitting at the lakeside in Joka, or in the Law Gardens, or near the Red Building of Dreams and you will be fine. Do not waste your time and energy in futile discussions about rankings and which colleges are good or bad. Remember that you get the right to reject only after you are selected.

A test series (I took IMS) and daily reading of any newspaper (I read IE) for a period of 3-4 months is more than enough, in my opinion.

PG has been of immense help during my short stint as an MBA aspirant. A few people here have been like Dronacharya to me (hope they don't ask me for my thumb, though ;P). They are @mayur_arora @hathiappa @arshsahay100 @anandnayak @ronniem1996123 and a few more. You guys are the superstars of PG and your scores in all the mocks throughout the season really motivated me a lot. Thanks for that. A special mention to @rajroy1964. Sir, your advice and guidance on two different times really helped a lot.

Finally, if I can be arrogant enough to do this, people here who think they can benefit from my advice are welcome to reach out to me. I will be more than happy to help.

If fee isn’t a concern, out of FMS and XLRI BM, which one would you pick and why?Β

I have a genuine query My acads are as follows 10th - 89 12th -78 Grad - 63 (2018 pass out, didn't take job opted for studying for MBA exams) GEM Fresher Cat 2018 - 91 CET 2019 - 99.5 I had calls from tapmi/IMT/ KJ/ gim all standard 90%ile colleges. Rejected/waitlisted in all with hardly any chance of convert. (May be my grad marks+ fresher was the reason) As of now I have a convert from Nirma University. And may be I'll get wellingkar MMS through CET. What do you think I should do? Go for one of these two college or go for a job and prepare for cat 2019 again? I'm confident that I can score 95+ next year. Interested in marketing
