Raghav, there has to be reason for doing a masters in finance - don't think of it just because you do not have any job at this time. I would suggest you to look at the FT rankings for Masters in Finance programs- browse through the websites of these programs. Look at the student profiles, the academics, the extra curricular activities, recruitment figures and determine for yourself whether this a Masters in Finance is what you want. Essentially, are you cut out for a career in hardcore finance?

Karthik, you know where the problem lies- too many job and function changes. While the functional change can be seen fitting in with your general management aspirations, the job hopping is a negative.
As you still have time to apply, stay put at one place and build your resume within that organization.

Thanks Namita, I might be a bit late due to other factors, but would than target 2013 programs

@[384681:mba-help] Thanks Namita, but lets say if I donot want to show some of my experience just to take out some ambiguity, will that work?

Hi Namita / Sameer

Could you please evaluate my profile below,
GMAT 680 (Q:46 V:37)
B Tech in CSE 74%
12th 85%
10th 82%

My professional background
Currently working with Samsung Electronics with more than 5 years of experience in Mobile domain.
Have contributed extensively to bring in differentiation to Samsung mobile app features.
Worked closely with the Business analysts and user experience team for betterment of Samsung products.
Am promoted 3 times in last 4 years.
Currently working as a Lead Engineer for Samsung's Android Mobile division.
Managing a team of 5 people by mentoring them technically, where in by default for anyone to lead a team it takes about 7 to 8 years of exp in Samsung.

Having experienced what it takes to make a product like Samsung Galaxy Series (Galaxy S, S2 and S3 ) I would like to further enhance my knowledge towards Business intelligence and Data analytics.
My short term goal is to join a major OEM or Service Provider or a consulting firm as a Business Intelligence Analyst (Ex: Samsung / Google / ComScore etc)

I am very much interested in going for MISM (Business Intelligence Data Analytics )Course by Heinz CMU.
I am keen on MISM as the course is of 1 year and also It bridges the gap between my short term goal and my present career.

Coming to extra curricular activities, I was placement coordinator during my College days from year 2005 to 2007 and I represented BE CSE batch of 2007. More than 150 offers were made for a class of 60 during my tenure as Placement Coordinator.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.
My only concern is my GMAT Score

Thanks

Since people aren't reading the first post let me make this very clear - this thread is specifically for people applying to Internationa/Indian b-schools that admit based on a GMAT score. This is NOT for Indian-bschools via CAT or any other non-admission related query. There are separate threads and forums for that so please search before posting a query here.

Also note that I will delete multiple postings because that is against forum rules. We've repeatedly asked for your patience and re-posting in a day's time is not acceptable.

Hi guys,

Need some consultant help !

I'll keep it short-

GMAT 750+ (high 40s in both verbal and quants)
14 months work experience (as of now) with Ernst & Young, India in an audit role
No foreign work experience
10th- 91%, 12th- 95%, B.Com (correspondence)- 61%
Studied CA and never really planned to do MBA. Hence, the poor graduation credentials.

Trying to get into a top B-School (India or abroad) for the 2013 or 2014 batch. Where do u think I fit in?

Read your book and found it informative but unfortunately couldn't relate it to my situation.

Brief about me - i have 9 years of working experience and am currently a project manager in a Auto company in india. work mostly with high tech projects that we outsource to Vendors/Suppliers (also lead cross functional teams with representations from various depts. such as purchasing support, quality and techincal product development).

Increasingly i find that the path i have chosen seems to have hit a dead end - i.e I see that there is no next step in this unless i change my track. this is where i started researching MBA as an option. Why did i choose this - quite simple i wanted to get more exposure to this business and this was an opportunity to see "the other sides"

I am quite interested in areas of supply chain management, strategic sourcing and in general working for companies wanting to make a foray into emerging markets and helping identify strategic partners/suppliers. My impression of MBA is that i should be able to expose myself to an education that is a)different from what i have always been linked with ( i am an engineer and did work for a while as a SW guy before deciding to switch roles) b) prepare me atleast with Theoretical concepts of business c)develop & enhance soft skills/mindset to further develop as a preofessional.

First of all i dont know whether my interest is something that MBAs really do (unfortunately i do not know anyone who is really an MBA that i can openly ask such questions to).

Second - i am 31 years old and want to understand whether such a change in track is feasible (my motivation for this change is the fact that my current role does expose me to people who work on the strategic side of things and this has led me to be interested in that kind of work).

Third - (A standard indian question) - how much does GMAT matter at my age (i have two scores 710 4 years ago and 680 - 2

Hope you will be able to throw some light.

Thanks
Nishant

Pls excuse the opening sentence of my previous post..and the 680 score is 3 weeks old.

Hi freakysan,
1. Cut off scores/ minimum work experience kind of information is available on b-schools websites. Applying for an MBA is a great Googling skills enhancer as well and this is your chance to enhance yours :)
2. PSU experience does not have any disadvantage - you should be able to demonstrate career progression and achievements, whether you are in a public or private company.
3. 10th scores are not needed.
4. check out the admissions pages of your target schools.
An admissions secret we decoded some time ago :): the more research you do on your target schools, the more your applications will shine, because you will be more convincing in your assertations on why a b-school is fit for you.

Hi,

I think your work experience is at the lower side right now and you should wait 2-3 years before you apply. My reasons are:

1. I assume you would not have got many achievements at work, considering your short tenure. Early career applicants would typically have stellar academic records and extra curricular achievements at college. Your GPA scores are average and the CA though helpful is not considered an academic credential.

2. As you did not go to a regular college for BCom, I assume you did not get many chances to grow your profile on the extra curricular front.

Building a good work profile will help you mitigate these pitfalls to an extent and make your journey to an MBA a lot more easier.

Hi, I am going to give GMAT in Nov'12.

My Profile is:

10th- 78%

12th- 78%

B.Tech- 77% ( Distinction)

I have 2 years of experience in IT industry.

I am a member of an NGO of my company who does various initiatives.

But I don't have as such great EC activities.

However,I have motivated my parents to support a child's education who is very poor.

What should I do to give weightage to my profile?

What score do I need to get admission in ISB or GLIM?

Thanks,

Prachi

FOR ISB: any suggestion is welcome

GMAT (Dec '10) 680 (AWA 3.5)

Xth 83%

XIIth 63%

4 years gap

Grad (mechanical, nit jsr) 7.9 but with extra curricular and leadership

10 months in not-so-great construction co, 11 months in TCE Construction BU with 2 certifications (one in IPR)

PGD in IPR and Patent Mgmt, Delhi 79%

4 months in LPO(1), then 1.5 months in LPO(2), now back to LPO(1). reason being project availability and ofcourse, hike.

now plan to retake GMAT for 710+, and better AWA.

Hi I am in a bit of a dilemma right now, here is my profile:

Current workex - With one of the largest IB in the world for the last 2 years in New York

Masters in CS - from Ranked 1 university in the world

I have already given my GRE, so this is gonna be my second masters.

I am aiming for M/B/B after my MBA, though with 2-3 yrs of workex from now, I can get in without MBA, but I think another degree specially in the field in which I see myself long term, wont hurt me.

Now, my question is should I do it from India because the fees here is really low as compared to the schools here(in the US), or should I aim for the top 5(harvard,wharton etc.), which would take me sometime to pursue as I would need some capital for the fees.

The salary difference is huge in the above comparison. Any comments ?

Also I was thinking of Ex MBA but I heard its not valued the same as a FT MBA.Any opinions ?

I am only 24 so I have time at hand, so any suggestions are welcome

Thanks.
