@mba__ Hi Dark Alex, unable to post on our pervious conversation.
Quoting the GMAC officials on the importance of AWA and IR, excerpt from the The MBA Run
"Schools use multiple sources of information to make admissions decisions. This is true of both non-exam sources - such as work experience, undergraduate major and academic performance, recommendations, application essays, etc. - as well as sources of information within the exam and its different sections, which test different skills. Each of the GMAT sections provides unique information about candidates' abilities that might not be otherwise apparent from these other sources. One of the benefits of the Analytical Writing section is, that in addition to the score, schools are provided with the essay, which allows them to glimpse the writing style of the candidate, and some schools have said that it is useful to evaluate the fluency of non-native English speakers. The Integrated Reasoning section resonates with schools and with employers because the question formats resemble the types of tasks that would be required in business school and in businesses."
